Le Guin who gained wide recognition for her writing and is today regarded one of the most influential science-fiction and fantasy author of the twentieth century.Asscociated with feminist tendencies in her works, her most famous novel referred to be feminist science fiction is 'The Left Hand of Darkness' in which she imagined an androgynous society in order to investigate what society would be if sex did not matter.But also many other of her works have received attention from critics interested in gender and feminism.In this paper I intend to analyse and discuss the depiction of gender and the realisation of feminist aspects in Le Guin's novel 'The Dispossessed: An ambiguous Utopia'.The novel won several important literary awards such as the Hugo and the Nebula and gained a lot of respect among critics for its great literary qualities and its extensive exploration of political ideas and social themes, including for example anarchism, capitalism and socialism.It is set on the fictional planets Urras and Anarres which inhabit two contrasting societies, one capitalist and class oriented and the other one following the principles of anarchism, avoiding any form of social hierarchy among its population.Anarres ¿ apparently the utopian planet in Le Guin's work, is often called a feminist utopia for its conception of gender. However, Le Guin has been highly criticised from feminist for several problematic issues in her approach of sexual politics in the novel.The question therefore arises weather 'The Dispossessed' really can be labeled feminist science-fiction and if Anarres really can be called a feminist utopia.

In economics a small group of researchers has examined whether this kind of investment is profitable or not. Although findings are not consistent, some authors conclude that art, compared to equity or bonds, does perform relatively well and offers diversification benefits in investment portfolios. Despite the inconsistency of findings, this research has led to a growing interest in art investment. Promoters of art investment like art investment funds work on a transformation of art into a new and widely accepted asset class, which they hope will prospectively be included in investment portfolios in the same way as real estate (Picinati di Torcello (2012): 15).Investment in art is determined by the expected price appreciation of art works in the future (Stein (1977): 1021). The quantity of original artworks, at least by deceased artists, cannot be augmented and the elasticity of supply is zero (Baumol (1986): 10). The future prices of art works as investment goods will thus depend on demand as well as on wealth of individuals and institutions at the sales date (Goetzmann (1993): 1371). The greater the purchasing power of prospective buyers, the more art is being bought and the higher art prices will be (Goetzmann et al. (2009): 2). Consequently art prices are expected to react to changes in economic prosperity and to fluctuate in the course of the business cycle.Business cycle research is a vital branch of macroeconomics and many theories and studies exist which examine the boom and bust periods of the economy as different phases of business cycles. Contrary there is little research which looks at ¿the link between the art market and the broader economy¿ (ibid: 4).This master thesis aims at contributing insights on this link by analysing the behavior of art prices under different macroeconomic conditions. The algorithms to produce random numbers can be roughly grouped into two families- congruential generators and generators based on feedback shift registers (FSR). We will focus on the latter family. An FSR-based generator can be described by a characteristicpolynomial which has to be primitive in order to ensure the best quality with respect to randomness. To understand the ambiguity of James as a person of literary interest, this essay tries to focus on the characteristics that shape the view of Henry James. Furthermore, it aims to investigate the question whether Colm Tóibín creates a fictional Henry James who appeals to ¿somebody whös never read a word of James and knows nothing to him¿.Starting with the definition of relevant terms, this essay proceeds with the description of the contemporary interest in Henry James. Furthermore, it examines Colm Tóibín¿s narrative techniques in order to characterize James and questions to what extent these techniques contribute to the fictionality of his work. After exploring the usage of intertextuality, this essay mentions the effects for the two readerships that The Master addresses. It concludes in saying that for though Colm Tóibín does not invent a fictitious character, his Henry James remains a variant of the real Henry James.

Da fast 2/3 der Todesursachen in Deutschland direkt oder indirekt auf chronische Krankheiten zurückzuführen sind, ist neben der ökonomischen Betrachtung der chronischen Krankheiten auch eine medizinische Betrachtung und einheitliche Behandlungsleitlinien von großer Wichtigkeit.Um diesem Problem zu begegnen müssen kostengünstige, aber dennoch effiziente Behandlungen für die betroffenen Patienten bereitgestellt werden. Furthermore, it aims to investigate the question whether Colm Tóibín creates a fictional Henry James who appeals to 'somebody who's never read a word of James and knows nothing to him'. Starting with the definition of relevant terms, this essay proceeds with the description of the contemporary interest in Henry James. Furthermore, it examines Colm Tóibín's narrative techniques in order to characterize James and questions to what extent these techniques contribute to the fictionality of his work. After exploring the usage of intertextuality, this essay mentions the effects for the two readerships that The Master addresses. It concludes in saying that for though Colm Tóibín does not invent a fictitious character, his Henry James remains a variant of the real Henry James.

In 2006, Argentina referred the dispute to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).The judgment, delivered on 20 April 2010, has been described as the most significant one in international environmental law since Trail Smelter. It is undisputed that the judgment made some significant contributions to the progress of international environmental law. I will argue, however, that the Court also missed some great opportunities to develop international environmental law and to establish itself as a Court capable of dealing with highly scientific issues. First, I will discuss the Court's reasoning concerning the burden of proof and its use of expert evidence. Despite this world progress, some 300,000 women died in 2013 from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth whereby 62% of the deaths occurring in Sub-Saharan Africa (United Nations, 2014).Access to a comprehensive package of reproductive health services has seen an improvement with 83% of pregnant women attended by a skilled health worker at least once during their pregnancy in 2012 compare to 65% in 1990 (United Nations, 2014).According to the United Nations (2014), there remain extreme differences in maternal mortality among countries with almost one third of global deaths concentrated in India (17%) and Nigeria (14%); with Sierra Leone being the Country with the highest MMR (1100 per 100,000 live births) while Belarus has the lowest (1 per 100,000 live births).Namibia is one of the affected sub-Saharan countries. It is estimated that, everyday a woman dies in Namibia due to complications related to either pregnancy or childbirth. The Maternal Mortality ratio has increased from 225 per 100,000 live births in 1992 to 271 per 100,000 live births in 2000 and 449 per 100,000 live births in 2007/2008 (WHO, 2009).This data has put the Country on a balance scale to initiate and develop policies and programs for the acceleration of the reduction of MMR against set targets and reverse the trends to achieve 75% reduction in accordance with the MDG5 target.The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze policies, strategies and programs that were developed in Namibia to meet the global and country targets for the attainment of the MDG5.Also to evaluate the progress made ,discuss challenges and identify way forwards for local and global response.This essay will review the Millennium Development Goals agenda, the Namibian Country health status in the context of MDG 5 and the policies, strategies and programs developed to mitigate Maternal Mortality. 16 pp. Englisch.

Both the soil and vegetation (leaf samples) were evaluated by assaying the heavy metal Ni. This work revealed that Ni concentrations of the soils in the mined-out sites studied were comparable among each other having no or little distinctiveness. Also, it emphasized a large variation in Ni concentration in the plant samples collected depending on the plant species and the sites.Results show that native plant species Sowa-sowa (Unidentified), Magotambis (Syzygium longiflorum), and Artocarpus sp. have the potential being hyperaccumulators of Ni with concentrations 218 mig g-1, 142 mig g-1, and 123 mig g-1 respectively. Problems emerge because existing solutions generally presuppose properties like uniform point distributions for datasets which are usually not existent in unstructured grids. These issues become particularly problematic on large grids since the existing solutions, if they work at all for unstructured grids, do not scale well. In this paper I will present two innovative approaches to visualization in large, unstructured grids. The first approach was developed by Max Langbein, Gerik Scheuermann and Xavier Tricoche. It makes use of cell adjacency and a complete adaptive k-d tree and utilizes ray shooting to locate points for visualization. The second approach was developed by Christoph Garth and Kenneth I. Joy. They use an innovative data structure, the celltree which is based on a bounding interval hierarchy, in order to narrow down the number of cells that conceivably contain points for visualization. Both approaches present memoryecient and performant solutions for visualizing large unstructured grids, the approach of Garth and Joy further focuses on numerical robustness. The main difference between the two papers is that the work of Garth and Joy designs a data structure based on points and attempts to narrow down the number of cell candidates and subsequently performs a simple check for inclusion, whereas in the work of Langbein et al. the data structure design is based on the cells and uses ray tracing after making an educated guess for a cell close to the searched point. In this paper I intend to analyse and discuss the depiction of gender and the realisation of feminist aspects in Le Guin's novel 'The Dispossessed: An ambiguous Utopia'. The novel won several important literary awards such as the Hugo and the Nebula and gained a lot of respect among critics for its great literary qualities and its extensive exploration of political ideas and social themes, including for example anarchism, capitalism and socialism.It is set on the fictional planets Urras and Anarres which inhabit two contrasting societies, one capitalist and class oriented and the other one following the principles of anarchism, avoiding any form of social hierarchy among its population. Anarres - apparently the utopian planet in Le Guin's work, is often called a feminist utopia for its conception of gender. However, Le Guin has been highly criticised from feminist for several problematic issues in her approach of sexual politics in the novel. The question therefore arises weather 'The Dispossessed' really can be labeled feminist science-fiction and if Anarres really can be called a feminist utopia 20 pp. Englisch.
