Le Guin who gained wide recognition for her writing and is today regarded one of the most influential science-fiction and fantasy author of the twentieth century.Asscociated with feminist tendencies in her works, her most famous novel referred to be feminist science fiction is 'The Left Hand of Darkness' in which she imagined an androgynous society in order to investigate what society would be if sex did not matter.But also many other of her works have received attention from critics interested in gender and feminism.In this paper I intend to analyse and discuss the depiction of gender and the realisation of feminist aspects in Le Guin's novel 'The Dispossessed: An ambiguous Utopia'.The novel won several important literary awards such as the Hugo and the Nebula and gained a lot of respect among critics for its great literary qualities and its extensive exploration of political ideas and social themes, including for example anarchism, capitalism and socialism.It is set on the fictional planets Urras and Anarres which inhabit two contrasting societies, one capitalist and class oriented and the other one following the principles of anarchism, avoiding any form of social hierarchy among its population.Anarres ¿ apparently the utopian planet in Le Guin's work, is often called a feminist utopia for its conception of gender. Although findings are not consistent, some authors conclude that art, compared to equity or bonds, does perform relatively well and offers diversification benefits in investment portfolios. Despite the inconsistency of findings, this research has led to a growing interest in art investment. Promoters of art investment like art investment funds work on a transformation of art into a new and widely accepted asset class, which they hope will prospectively be included in investment portfolios in the same way as real estate (Picinati di Torcello (2012): 15).Investment in art is determined by the expected price appreciation of art works in the future (Stein (1977): 1021). The quantity of original artworks, at least by deceased artists, cannot be augmented and the elasticity of supply is zero (Baumol (1986): 10). To understand the ambiguity of James as a person of literary interest, this essay tries to focus on the characteristics that shape the view of Henry James. Furthermore, it aims to investigate the question whether Colm Tóibín creates a fictional Henry James who appeals to ¿somebody whös never read a word of James and knows nothing to him¿.Starting with the definition of relevant terms, this essay proceeds with the description of the contemporary interest in Henry James. Furthermore, it examines Colm Tóibín¿s narrative techniques in order to characterize James and questions to what extent these techniques contribute to the fictionality of his work. Only minor resistance from the security police occurred, so that by late morning the crowds were flooding the streets, cheering the soldiers, and putting carnations in the barrels of the rifles. The coup was efficiently and successfully and still on the same day, the deposed dictator Marcello Caetano surrendered to the new military leaders and already the next day flew into exile. This coup d'état marked the death of the oldest, over 40 years old dictatorship in Europe, lead by António de Oliveira Salazar (Ferreira, 1986).On the one hand marked April 25 the beginning of transition to democracy in Portugal and later even lead to a consolidated democracy. On the other hand this day marked the beginning of the third wave of democratization. The fall of communist regimes in Eastern Europe, the breakdown of the Latin American authoritarian regimes followed after Portugal brought the ball rolling. These issues become particularly problematic on large grids since the existing solutions, if they work at all for unstructured grids, do not scale well. In this paper I will present two innovative approaches to visualization in large, unstructured grids. The first approach was developed by Max Langbein, Gerik Scheuermann and Xavier Tricoche. It makes use of cell adjacency and a complete adaptive k-d tree and utilizes ray shooting to locate points for visualization. The second approach was developed by Christoph Garth and Kenneth I. Joy. They use an innovative data structure, the celltree which is based on a bounding interval hierarchy, in order to narrow down the number of cells that conceivably contain points for visualization. Both approaches present memoryecient and performant solutions for visualizing large unstructured grids, the approach of Garth and Joy further focuses on numerical robustness. The main difference between the two papers is that the work of Garth and Joy designs a data structure based on points and attempts to narrow down the number of cell candidates and subsequently performs a simple check for inclusion, whereas in the work of Langbein et al. the data structure design is based on the cells and uses ray tracing after making an educated guess for a cell close to the searched point. Le Guin who gained wide recognition for her writing and is today regarded one of the most influential science-fiction and fantasy author of the twentieth century.Asscociated with feminist tendencies in her works, her most famous novel referred to be feminist science fiction is 'The Left Hand of Darkness' in which she imagined an androgynous society in order to investigate what society would be if sex did not matter. But also many other of her works have received attention from critics interested in gender and feminism. In this paper I intend to analyse and discuss the depiction of gender and the realisation of feminist aspects in Le Guin's novel 'The Dispossessed: An ambiguous Utopia'. The novel won several important literary awards such as the Hugo and the Nebula and gained a lot of respect among critics for its great literary qualities and its extensive exploration of political ideas and social themes, including for example anarchism, capitalism and socialism.It is set on the fictional planets Urras and Anarres which inhabit two contrasting societies, one capitalist and class oriented and the other one following the principles of anarchism, avoiding any form of social hierarchy among its population. Anarres - apparently the utopian planet in Le Guin's work, is often called a feminist utopia for its conception of gender. First, the origin of the vampire myth will be discussed. Furthermore the most popular literary character originating from the Gothic horror genre, Count Dracula by Bram Stoker, will be examined to point out the changes of the vampire image as well as the cultural message behind the figure Dracula.
