This term paper shall examine what historical circumstances constituted the ¿common adventures¿ and ¿common attitudes¿ of that generation as reflected in Fitzgerald¿s novel The Great Gatsby.The term ¿The Lost Generation¿ was given by Gertrude Stein, an authoress of note and contemporary of both Fitzgerald and Hemingway, who used her quotation: ¿you are all a lost generation,¿ as the epigraph for his novel The Sun Also Rises. What is meant by the attribute ¿lost¿ Why was this dismal term applied to the young adults of the 1920s ¿ an era of prosperity and freedom in America How did Fitzgerald depict this ¿lost¿ world in The Great Gatsby, with respect to material abundance on the one hand versus spiritual poverty on the other The zeitgeist of an era inevitably shapes the human beings who live in it: how they act, what they look like, and what they think the meaning of their lives in particular and humanity in general might be. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the 1920s in America in order to understand fully the meaning Fitzgerald communicates in The Great Gatsby.This paper will therefore investigate several characteristics of the decade which are relevant for the interpretation of the novel. The parameters to be surveyed are: society in general; the materialism, wealth and industrialization which created that society; Prohibition as one of the most significant elements of the 20s; the faltering faith in God (as but one example of the failure of institutions that were supposed to be a refuge for human beings); and the loss of faith in the American dream and other treasured ideals. These issues will be analyzed in consideration of The Great Gatsby and the question of how Fitzgerald uses them as tropes for his social criticism of the so called Jazz Age.The paper will be based on a number of monographs and anthologies dealing with the major American writers and literature of the 1920s as well as the historical context that shaped their literary vision. The particular focus will be on Fitzgerald¿s seminal novel, The Great Gatsby, as it incorporates and inflects the major historical and literary themes of its time.

As these de-velopments caused feelings of insecurity in many people, much importance was attached to the own home, which was seen as a haven of security amidst social and economic turmoil (Shanley 3).The making of a stereotype like that of the 'Victorian Lady' or the 'Southern Lady' can be seen as an attempt to create a solid authority in a time of radical changes. The Louisiana Purchase in 1803 posed a challenge to the Protestant Americans as the life-style of the Catholic Creoles differed greatly from the ones in the rest of the US. The be-liefs - comprising, amongst others, religious ones - and values of the Creole community were met with rejection and were sometimes described as un-American.

Jahrhundert. Die Bedeutung Bultmanns liegt vor allem in seinem Ansatz der Schriftauslegung, der Entmythologisierung als existentiale Interpretation. An diesem hermeneutischen Ansatz entzündete sich auch die Kritik an Bultmanns Person.Zunächst soll in dieser Arbeit Bultmanns Biografie kurz vorgestellt werden, auch um zu zeigen, welche verschiedenen Einflüsse sein Denken prägten und welche Entwicklung er in seinem Denken durchlief. Diese Faktoren trugen dazu bei, dass er das Programm der Entmythologisierung als existentiale Interpretation entwickelte. Im Hauptteil werden dann sowohl die theoretisch-methodischen Grundlagen dieses Programms als auch Beispiele für dessen praktischen Vollzug ausführlich dargestellt. Darauf folgt ein Überblick über die Wirkungsgeschichte Bultmanns. Hier soll es zum einen um die Reaktionen auf Bultmanns Entmythologisierungsprogramm gehen, zum anderen um seine Bedeutung für die Theologie. Im Fazit erfolgt meine eigene Stellungnahme, in der ich Bultmanns Arbeit zum einen würdige, zum anderen aber auch Kritik an ihr übe. Sowohl Würdigung als auch Kritik können jedoch nur dann in angemessener Weise erfolgen, wenn man sich zuvor mit einer Sache auseinandergesetzt und sie verstanden hat, oder zumindest einen Versuch des Verstehens unternommen hat. Die BiografieRudolf Karl Bultmann wurde am 20.8. 1884 in Wiefelstede bei Oldenburg geboren und starb am 30.7. 1976 in Marburg an der Lahn. Das Christentum und die Theologie spielten in seiner Familie eine große Rolle. Der Vater, Arthur Bultmann (1854-1919), war lutherischer Pfarrer und Oldenburger Kirchenrat. Schon dessen Vater, Fritz Bultmann, war Pfarrer und als Missionar in Sierra Leone tätig. Rudolf Bultmanns Mutter Helene Bultmann, geb. Stern, war ebenfalls das Kind eines Pfarrers. Beide Eltern Rudolf Bultmanns waren geprägt von der pietistischen Erweckungsbewegung. Während die Mutter zeitlebens pietistisch blieb, vollzog sich beim Vater jedoch ab 1900 ein Richtungswechsel vom Pietismus und einer positiv-biblischen Theologie hin zur liberalen Theologie. Rudolf Bultmann wurde als Kind also zunächst vom Pietismus geprägt. Durch den Richtungswechsel des Vaters zur liberalen Theologie und den Besuch des humanistischen Alten Gymnasiums Oldenburg von 1895 bis 1903 löste er sich aber allmählich von den orthodoxen Auffassungen des Glaubens und wandte sich .

Das Bedürfnis nach Sinn drückt sich in der Suche nach Zugehörigkeit aus. Um das Morgen zu wagen, muss der Mensch sein Gestern kennen.Die Geschichte der Menschheit gibt Zeugnis von dieser Suche nach Identität, die sich auch auf einer höheren Strukturebene in den jeweils individuellen Riten der Völker zeigt. Beispielhaft sei die biblische Urgeschichte, genauer die Schöpfungserzählungen, genannt. Diese Texte sind Zeugnisse für die Identitätssuche des Volkes Israel, welche dahingehend endet, dass sich dieses Volk als von Jahweh erschaffen und berufen versteht.Im Kontext dieser Arbeit soll die Suche nach Identität im speziellen Fall von Pflegeverhältnissen thematisiert werden. Unter der Maßgabe, dass jedem Menschen diese Suche nach dem Kern seiner Persönlichkeit innewohnt - ja, geradezu ein Grundbedürfnis genannt werden kann - sollen besonders dauerhafte Pflegebeziehungen mit den ihnen eigenen Herausforderungen ernst genommen werden. Die Frage 'Wer bin ich ' wird sich früher oder später jedes/r in Pflege genommene Kind/ Jugendliche stellen. Es wird zu fragen sein, welche Bedingungen günstig und welche Maßnahmen notwendig sind, damit die Möglichkeit eröffnet wird, diese Frage zufriedenstellend zu beantworten.Jeder Mensch ist (zum Teil auch sich selbst) Geheimnis. Er gehört niemandem. Der eingangs zitierte Poet vermittelt ein Gefühl dafür, mit welch notwendiger Distanz man dem anvertrauten Kind/ Jugendlichen begegnen sollte, bzw. wo die nicht hintergehbaren Grenzen zu seiner Persönlichkeit liegen. In Bezug auf die Problematik eines Pflegeverhältnisses geschieht in den zitierten Ausführungen eine wichtige Sensibilisierung für die Individualität jedes Kindes. Obwohl im Gedicht leibliche Eltern angesprochen scheinen, kann es auch als Apell an Pflege(und Adoptiv-)eltern verstanden werden. Erwachsene, die die Verantwortung für ein Kind/ einen Jugendlichen (übernommen) haben, sind aufgefordert, ihre Macht- und Einflussmöglichkeiten relativiert wahrzunehmen.Das Vordringen zu seinem Geheimnis - die Suche nach seiner Identität - wird jedem Kind/ Jugendlichen selbst überlassen bleiben.

It establishes a historical and cultural context with which these different policy approaches have evolved and notes the various utilities and insufficiencies of each. Common diplomatic obstacles that have previously thwarted attempts at improving conditions within North Korea will also be highlighted, as these challenges are likely to have a continued effect on the future prospects of reunification. This paper also examines the vastly negative economic and sociological implications of reunifying the two Koreas, as this has resulted in a strong political incentive to maintain the status quo. In order to overcome this problem, the new secular state controlled religious affairs and abolished the institution of Caliphate. Morever, founders of the modern Turkey created a National Assembly and which served as the early steps to the representative democracy. There were series of reforms on the education, military system, women's rights and general dress code for public places. However, although Ataturk and his friends' contribution to the Turkish modernization is undeniable, it should be made clear that his ideas were inspired both by the realities of his time and more importantly the reforms of the late Ottoman period. Thus, contrary to what primary level education which is taught in state schools in Turkey suggests, it is hard to claim that he singlehandedly invented all the ideas and reforms concerning the Turkish modernization. In fact, the idea of Turkish modernization long predates the foundation of the secular republic. There had been reforms from top to down during the nineteenth century. These were followed by a new group of intellectuals who were influenced by the ideas of Enlightenment and French Revolution who were called 'Young Turks'. The Young Turk movement, which was emerged among the students of higher learning schools of Istanbul attracted many other members of the society. Countless erected monuments and installed plates at places all over the Island reminisce of the losses and sacrifices of the 1916 rebels. They are called patriots who fought, outnumbered and starved, for a holy aim and who had to submit to ruthless soldiers, sent by an illicit and tyrannous foreign government. Therefore the uprising prevails in the mind of the Irish people, bolstered up by songs, poems or parades and days of commemoration. This paper shall examine the circumstances right before the outbreak of the rising, its preparation and the course of events within it. Furthermore it intends to show in what way the British restored their power and how they responded to the open violence. The paper is supposed to try to display what aftermaths the Easter Rising actually had and if there was any sense in this adventure that was apparently doomed to failure in advance. Another point is concerned with the reflection of the rebellion. In this research paper I will analyze the Duck and Cover propaganda short issued by the Federal Civil Defense Administration in the early 1950s as the primary source. I will focus on the content of the episode, its structural and cinematic means, and its desired and achieved affects toward its target audience. What were the reasons and goals behind this far-fetched and committed civil defense operation Is it seen as an outspoken domestic act out of moral obligation from the government that comes with the responsibility of being a nuclear power Was the nuclear fallout - which the film thoroughly neglects as a danger - really not known to the government at this point in time or was this knowledge deliberately held from the public This last question defines greatly the core meaning of the film in historical terms. Eventually it determines whether Duck and Cover was merely a naïve piece of safety education or just a good excuse for conditioning a whole generation (as well as its parents) to the ideological challenges of the forthcoming decades of the Cold War. This humble paper alone cannot answer all these questions but rather build a basis for extended research on the topic. Sources indicate that in government circles the secondary dangers that emanate from a nuclear blast like radioactive fall-out were at least partially known if not already scientifically proven at the time. In order to analyse the external and internal influences, this report will commence with Porter's value chain model and his five forces framework to critically evaluate the reasons for Nike's strategic decision to outsource its manufacturing factories to Asia. The reader will also achieve an understanding of the environment in which the company operates, which will be enlarged in the following part, by evaluating the advantages of international trade for Nike.The second part of this report will concentrate on two of Whittington's schools of thought and concentrates on Nike's systemic approach to its strategic position. Finally, Mintzberg s cultural and environmental schools of thought will be discussed and compared to illustrate Nike's development between the years of 1996 and 2000. 20 pp. Englisch.
