The two particular cases were selected due to their overall similarity, as the paper pursues the most-similar system design. The theoretical framework first conceptualizes democracy, the dependent variable of the study. It proceeds to introduce some factors which might theoretically be responsible for the differing level of democracy in Central and Eastern Europe in general. The research design chapter describes the most-similar system design, introduces the index of democracy to be used in the empirical analysis, and lays out the steps of the empirical analysis. The empirical analysis first delivers the scores of the democracy index for the two countries, before evaluating the possible effect of various factors. The analysis finds that the decisive factors are political and not economic.

A qualitative study, data were sourced from secondary sources. The study tried to identify some trends.In the word of Fukuyama (1992), democracy is the 'endpoint of man's ideological evolution'. At the end of Cold War, the world saw transition of hitherto authoritarian military/ monarchical states to democracy. Between 1990 and 1994, about thirty of one forty-one African states that had not held multiple party elections did so. Eligible citizens expressed their right to air their opinion through voting on who they so desire to govern them. It is not only in national elections that voting has a special importance, but also in many institutions, private and public domains. As experience has shown so far in many of these countries, elections become not day activity, rather they are complex set of activities with different variables that act and feed on one another.

Despite the civil rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s, which was a struggle for social justice for blacks to gain equal rights under the law in the United States, discrimination against blacks did not end then (History). Even though the Civil War (1861-1865) officially abolished slavery, African Americans continued to endure the devastating effects of racism, especially in the South (History).

Der Friedhof spielt nicht nur im religiösen Sinne eine wichtige Rolle, sondern ist auch für die historische Entwicklung eines Ortes und seiner jüdischen Gemeinde von wesentlicher Bedeutung. Grabsteine lassen sich als unzerstörbare Zeitzeugen betrachten, denn sie geben Aufschluss über die damalige Situation und helfen, diese zu analysieren und für die Zukunft zu archivieren.Die mittelalterlichen Stellen in Erfurt haben einen besonderen Status, da sie die viertgrößten Überreste der jüdischen Grabsteine askenasischer Juden sind. 2022 wird der Antrag auf Weltkulturerbe überprüft, dieser entscheidet über die Aufnahme in die Liste des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes. Im Raum Erfurt wurden bei zahlreichen Bauarbeiten und Grabungen 110 zumindest teilweise intakte Grabsteine mit bestimmten Merkmalen, Symbolen und Inschriften, welche im Folgenden näher beschrieben und analysiert werden, entdeckt. Der mittelalterliche Friedhof in Erfurt ist heute weitgehend überbaut, die Steine sind jedoch unter anderem im Stadtmuseum Erfurt ausgestellt.

Pictures of the bank run went around the world and scratched on the extraordinary reputation of Swiss banks. In contrast to other banks who were bailed out by cantons or acquired by bigger banks, the SLT got liquidated in an expensive process that came to an end after 14 years in 2005. The liquidation capital finally amounted only to roughly 60% of the liabilities and that is why the event remains as a trauma in the minds of the region's people. The collapse of the SLT was the motivation to revise the Swiss banking legislation dating back to the 1930s. It constituted the other comprehensive revision of banking legislation in the last 90 years in Switzerland next to the revision of the too big to fail legislation in the aftermath of the subprime crises and the related UBS bail-out in 2008. Though data for a detailed comparison is not available, this paper will show that real estate prices on a national level faced heavy declines only after 1991. Hence, either the region of Thun experienced higher price declines already in 1991, which cannot be tested, since regional data is not available, or what will be argued, the SLT was mismanaged and thus more vulnerable to the massive interest rate hike by the SNB in 1989 than other (regional) banks.

When the Chinese government under Deng Xiaoping initiated the Chinese policy of 'opening up to the outside world' in 1978, no one could have foreseen the dynamics with which this modernization course would continue or that it would change China's influence on world markets and its perception in the international environment so markedly. The opening policy in the 80s and 90s was characterized by a step-by-step development according to the principle: crossing the river from stone to stone. Thus, China gradually developed from one of the poorest nations to today's second largest economy, to which a significant role is attributed worldwide. Not only as a location for investment, but also as an international competitor for markets and resources.

Concerning two different episodes from a Lebanese talk show, the question posed in the given paper is whether, the topic of a conversation or speech influences the usage of code switching by Lebanese native speakers with regard to, for example, frequency or type of their code-switching. Therefore, I also want to look at why a speaker could do code-switching when talking about certain topics.Arabic is the most widely spoken language by the six million inhabitants of Lebanon, as article 11 of its Constitution states, 'Arabic is the official national language. A law determines the cases in which the French language may be used.' Due to the fact that Lebanon was under French rule during the first half of the 20th century (1918-1948), French is unsurprisingly used as a second language today. Nevertheless, since 'English is seen as the language of business, technology and communications with the non-Arab world', it is increasingly gaining status in Lebanon and especially among the younger generation. As a consequence, Arabic, French and English are frequently mixed in written and spoken language. When observing Lebanese television, it even seems as if the English-Arabic code-switching is steadily increasing a few years. In contrast to the comparatively abundant research on code-switching between Arabic and English (or any other language), whereby the focus here is often on dialects from greater nations like Egypt, Algeria or Saudi-Arabia, research on code-switching between the dialect of the smallest Arabic nation Lebanon and English is rather limited. One of the reasons therefore could be the fact that English was only introduced to schools in Lebanon in the 21st century. The consequence for this is that Lebanon will still be associated with French as its lingua franca, although an increasing number of Lebanese people are speaking English.

In the last few years, the development of wireless local area networks (WLAN) represented one of the principal interests in the information and communication field.Thus, the current trend in commercial and government communication systems has been to develop low cost, minimal weight, low profile antennas that are capable of maintaining high performance over a large spectrum of frequencies. This technological trend has focused much effort into the design of microstrip (patch) antennas. The variety in design that is possible with microstrip antenna probably exceeds that of any other type of antenna element.In addition, once the shape and operating mode of the patch are selected, designs become very versatile in terms of operating frequency, polarization, pattern, and impedance. They are extremely low profile, lightweight, simple and inexpensive to fabricate using modern day printed circuit board technology, compatible with microwave and millimeter-wave integrated circuits (MMIC), and have the ability to conform to planar and non planar surfaces.

Samples of the waste water were analyzed for the physical and chemical characteristics such as pH, TDS, TSS, Hardness, Alkalinity, DO, COD, NO3-N, Phosphorus and Boron. After studying it is found that waste water from this campus is reused for gardening and proper management, after giving the treatment by using activated charcoal as filter media.

The obtained results can be used in describing these models in some better way. The novel fractional derivative operator namely M-fractional derivative is used to study the above-mentioned models. Also, the obtained results are verified via symbolic software Mathematica. A modified integration method, the extended Sinh-Gordon equation expansion method (EShGEEM) is employed to secure the aforesaid solitary wave solutions. Furthermore, the obtained results show that the suggested approach have broadened capacity to obtain the different wave solutions of the fractional differential equations effectively. At the end, the results are also explained through their graphical representations.

Moreover, the role of accruals in cash flow predictions is called into question. One of the major purposes of financial reporting consists in ensuring an informational basis that helps investors, creditors and other users of accounting data to overcome the uncertainty associated with the future cash flows of enterprises their financial activity relates to. At the same time, the accrual concept prevails in modern accounting, since it is theorized to mitigate the mismatching and timing problems of the unrefined cash ba-sis accounting. Hence, recognizing revenues and expenses in the period when they have occurred, and not when cash was received or paid out, should create a more relevant framework for decision making. The use of accrual accounting earnings as a summary measure of financial performance instead of the more primitive cash flows is therefore advocated by accounting standard setters. For instance, the Financial Accounting Stand-ard Board claims that: 'Information about enterprise earnings and its components measured by accrual accounting generally provides a better indica-tion of enterprise performance than information about current cash receipts and pay-ments'.The FASB's statement led to a rising discussion in the financial research on whether accounting earnings provide a more reliable picture of a company's future operating cash flows than current operating cash flows themselves do. Hence, a major implication of the above quotation refers to the incremental power of accruals and its components in predicting future cash flows beyond the one contained into current operating cash flows. This debate represents a cornerstone in evaluating the information quality offered by the accrual accounting concept.

Experts in counselling, however, strongly believe that before online counselling is introduced, it is necessary to ascertain its potential utilization by clients.

This internal conflict does not stop at the Colombian border and rather places itself within an international context, bringing several actors of the international community together. Specifically, the European Union (EU) appears as one additional player that seeks to support the building of sustainable peace in the country by helping to tackle some of the structural causes of the conflict. In parallel, it should contribute to the implementation of the peace accords - which independently from its actual fulfillment - rely on a broad reconciliation and consensus-seeking process of major symbolism.The European Trust Fund for Colombia (EUTF for Colombia) - established in December 2016 - embodies the EU's aim to contribute to sustainable development in the long run. This premise builds the essence of the EU Development Policy. The following thesis attempts to examine the EU peacebuilding strategy in Colombia in the aftermath of the conflict. The main question guiding the research is: To what extent has the EUTF for Colombia contributed to the building of a just and sustainable peace in the country during the post-conflict era.

With obtaining these empirical data, this thesis gained management and expert insights. Based on the research objectives the evaluation represents that with this survey it was possible to identify, discuss and analyze the strategic position, the strategic choices, and the conditions for further growth of Germany s Electrical Installation System companies. The first main recognition gained in this dissertation is that innovation projects such as the project Industry 4.0 from the German Federal Government, is not considered in the strategies of German Electrical Installation companies. This is a disadvantage because other nations working intensively on this topic. This is seen most critical for the future of the German Electric Industry. The recommendation is to rework the current strategies and to include innovation projects such as the project Industry 4.0. The next important outcome of the elaboration is that the globalisation affects the strategies of German Electrical Installation companies and the companies under research have no really internationalisation strategy, although they are international active. The survey shows that the essential inputs of the respondents lead to a preferred internationalisation strategy. The simple export. This result with respect to the respondents which have a strategy leads not only to advantages, but also it leads to disadvantages. The advantages are on the one hand cost aspects. There are no operational facilities needed in the host country and by using the Internet they are able to gain access into the international market. But on the other hand this strategy does not allow the firm to benefit from the location advantages of the host nation and limits the opportunities to gain knowledge of the local market and respectively of the customers.

Recently, clear flaws seem to have been noted in pupils' linguistic skills in all Arab schools, particularly in first grade level, since most of them have relatively little or no contact with the official language of instruction before formal schooling. In the Algerian policy, Modern Standard Arabic (MSA hereafter) is the language used in classroom settings.However, it is generally agreed among educationists, that the achievement of low levels is mainly linked to the complexities of the literary language used in formal instruction and the various colloquial forms reserved for non-formal contexts. Children acquire Algerian Arabic as a mother tongue, while Standard Arabic is learned later on through access to formal instruction. The pupils' educational problems and the persistent feelings of linguistic insecurity are directly attributed to diglossia. Through collecting and analyzing data by means of a number of sociolinguistic tools, the researcher tried, in this study, to compare between two school settings to show the extent to which diglossia affects the learning process among first grade pupils by: exploring the variety used in classroom interaction, insisting on the language difficulties encountered by young pupils and detecting their attitudes towards the forms of Arabic used in classroom interaction.

In doing so, it challenges the assumptions in the research literature that TBLT will necessarily improve multiple aspects of performance within group discussions with low-level students, and reveals that applying GSF can lead to very different outcomes. A longitudinal mixed-method approach was adopted using surveys and peer-interviews with 10 teachers, and observations, surveys and peer-interviews with 132 low-level students in a Japanese university. Students used product or process GSF alongside TBLT group discussions across a semester. Findings showed improvements in fluency and accuracy, positive feelings towards learning, and larger improvements for lower performers. Furthermore, product and process goals influenced students' focus differently in terms of individual performance, collaboration and discussion outcome. These findings create a clearer picture of the impact of TBLT, when applied to group discussions, and show how students' focus within learning can be greatly influenced by task goals. Resultant recommendations for course design, student and teacher training, and implementation of TBLT and GSF are given.
