This illuminating work delves deep into the lives of women in the aftermath of incarceration, providing an intimate portrayal of their journey toward rehabilitation and empowerment. Against the backdrop of New South Wales, this book takes readers on a transformative odyssey, unraveling the intricate challenges faced by women as they navigate the complex transition from prison life to societal reintegration. The narrative is richly woven with personal narratives, highlighting the strength and determination of these women in overcoming societal stigmas and personal hurdles. Through poignant storytelling and rigorous research, the book sheds light on the transformative power of rehabilitation programs, emphasizing the importance of a supportive environment in enabling these women to reclaim their lives. "Unlocking a New Dawn" not only exposes the harsh realities of the criminal justice system but also celebrates the resilience of the human spirit. As the dawn of freedom breaks on the horizon, this book serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring readers to advocate for a more compassionate and inclusive society where every individual, regardless of their past, can unlock the door to a brighter, more promising future.

The benefits of increasing engagement were consistently reported however measures were developed and used across different contexts, with potential underlying differences due to context remaining unaddressed. The first aim of this thesis was to investigate existing engagement measures and their comparative relevance across two contexts: business and medical. The medical context was chosen for detailed investigation because of the importance of engagement-related factors such as burnout in medical professions, and because of the lack of empirical research on engagement in this context. The second aim of the thesis was to develop an engagement measure specifically for use in medical settings. The third aim of the thesis was to explore the relationships between engagement and related constructs of interest in the literature. In the first, Pilot Study 1, items said to measure engagement were identified. In Study 2, the measures were tested for their perceived relevance to engagement with 217 business and 192 medical respondents. Results demonstrate engagement may be differentially viewed and defined in these contexts. In Study 3, data were drawn from public hospitals across New South Wales, Australia, from 392 nurses and 154 doctors. The first known measure for engagement in medical contexts was developed, a higher order construct including job satisfaction, dedication and focused time use, consistent with a consensus on engagement occurring later in the literature. A path model was developed assessing related constructs not found in other engagement models, climate, empowerment, intrinsic motivation and emotional exhaustion. The model consolidates findings and provides further evidence of differences in the way engagement operates in business and medical contexts. Engagement in medical contexts is an important aspect of current research due to a global healthcare crisis.

Zustand: Hervorragend | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Muscle dysmorphia (MD) is observed as a strong drive to increase muscularity and decrease body fat, and appears to be based on beliefs regarding one's muscularity, regardless of actual muscle size and definition. The current scientific literature on MD is inconclusive on several vital questions regarding the characteristics, categorisation, and prevalence of MD. The overall purpose of the research was to investigate whether MD should be included as a new disorder in a classification system for mental disorders, and to improve the understanding and awareness of the rates and symptoms of MD, BDD, and eating disorders. Two studies were designed in this project to address five of these questions. The first study aimed to: (a) examine inter-rater reliability of the proposed MD criteria, (b) investigate if MD represented a syndrome of co-occurring symptoms, and (c) investigate the correlation between the proposed MD criteria and the Muscle Appearance Satisfaction Scale (MASS) in a non-clinical population of adult male weight lifters in Australia. Adult males (N = 48) who were currently participating in weight lifting were assessed using the MASS and a one-on-one interview. Results of the assessments by two registered psychologists indicated low inter-rater reliability (¿ = .39; p ¿ .05). A Binomial test revealed that MD represented a syndrome of frequently co-occurring symptoms: there was a significant probability (> .70) of a participant with one diagnostic symptom of MD (criteria B1 or C) to exhibit another symptom (criterion A) of the disorder. Point-biserial correlation indicated that the proposed MD criteria, excluding criterion B2, were significantly correlated with the total score of the MASS and its subscales, excluding Muscle Satisfaction. The second study aimed to: (a) determine the prevalence of, and factors contributing to, MD symptoms, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) symptoms, and eating disorders symptoms; and (b) provide a comprehensive comparison of symptoms of MD, BDD, and eating disorders in a non-clinical population of adult male weight lifters in Australia. Adult males (N = 648, Mage = 29.5, SD = 10.1) who were currently participating in weight lifting completed an online survey consisting of the background questionnaire, the MASS, the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Questionnaire, and the 26-item Eating Attitudes Test.

This research intends toexplore the adoption of accrual accounting in the Indonesian public sector.Using case-based research the research is underpinned by theory to interpret the process ofaccrual accounting adoption in Indonesia and adopts qualitative research methods, including in-depth interviews with senior regulators of public sector reform in Indonesiaand extensive reviews of documents and archives, to construct a historical analysis ofpublic sector accounting in Indonesia.Paper one identifies events that stimulated the adoption of accrual accounting inIndonesia. In-depth interviews were conducted with senior accountants involved in settingthe regulations of these public sector reforms in order to gain insight into the motivationsfor adoption and the decision-making process of implementation. These interviews revealtwo milestones in the process of public sector accounting reform in Indonesia. The firstwas the ratification of the Law of State Finance No. 17/2003, in which there was astipulation that governments (both central and local governments) should implementaccrual accounting in 2008. Interviewees stated that this implementation of accrualaccounting was motivated by a desire to avoid sanctions from the International MonetaryFund (IMF). The Government of Indonesia expected the IMF to provide bailout funds torestore the Indonesian economy, which had been devastated by the 1997 Asian FinancialCrisis.

Zustand: Hervorragend | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Performance-Based Budgeting (PBB) has been, and continues to be, implemented within developed and developing countries as part of a wider public sector reform process. The purpose is to embed accurate performance measurement within public sector organisations (see Franklin, 2006, Aristovnik and Seljak, 2009, Schick, 2007) and provide a more efficient and effective approach to resource allocation (Shah and Shen, 2007). PBB adoption and implementation has not been without criticism and there is ongoing debate as to the real use and effectiveness of PBB. The historical context within which PBB developed, and the justification for why countries decide to implement PBB, has been the subject of scant research, which has led to a lack of understanding as to its purpose and effects. This thesis undertook an historical examination of PBB as part of fiscal reform within the public sector. It specifically used a case study regarding the adoption and implementation of PBB within the Indonesian government as its central field of analysis. The study used qualitative research methodology, beginning with a historical review of the evolution of PBB as the new public budgeting system, using the Lüder FMR model (2002) as a conceptual framework. It then utilized new institutional sociology (NIS) theory as a theoretical framework to examine the extent to which isomorphism was evident during PBB implementation within the Indonesian central government. Finally, the Lüder FMR model (2013) was employed as a conceptual framework to investigate the motives that underpinned the development of PBB within Indonesian local government, and the factors influencing its implementation. This study offers three conclusions about the historical context of PBB evolution and the decision by countries to adopt. First, PBB was initially implemented in the United States in 1949 and expanded to developing countries through United States (US) and United Nations (UN) funded projects. Using the Lüder FMR model (2002), this study finds that the primary motive underpinning PBB implementation in the US was public sector demand for more informative and measured budgets. Similar motives were also found in the UK, Australia and Denmark. That the implementation of PBB within the US and UK budgeting systems were largely seen as positive, was the primary stimulus for PBB implementation across the globe. Furthermore, this study found the outcome of budgetary reform varied between countries, from that of a single format that involved traditional budgeting methods, to 'old PBB', to a dynamic approach involving multiple stages that culminated in PBB modification.

In the absence of artifactual material, biological and taphonomic analyses were undertaken to determine the likelihood a deposit was anthropogenic in origin. These analyses were also used to gain an understanding of site formation processes. The relationship between, and relative influence of, anthropogenic and non-anthropogenic erosive factors at shell midden sites in different geomorphic settings was used to formulate three erosion hazard assessment methods. Each method was designed to address the needs of a different stakeholder group. The archaeological method includes analysis of the effects of bank erosion, cultivation, anthropogenic and biological excavation, wind and wave erosion. Erosive factors are compared between sites and geomorphic settings. The rapid assessment technique designed for use by Aboriginal Land Councils and local Indigenous communities includes an Erosion Hazard Pro Forma and uses relatively simple geomorphic analyses which can be performed in the field. A handbook containing straightforward, user-friendly instructions on how to complete the Erosion Hazard Pro Forma is also included, along with a scoring system used to quantify erosion hazard and rank the study sites. A GIS model generated using soil, land use, vegetation and elevation data is also used to quantify erosion hazard and rank the study sites.
