Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - A timely examination of the use of emerging technologies in the arts in recent decades. This book explores the notion of embodied experience from the first wave of virtual reality through the current use of mixed, augmented, and extended realities. It highlights the necessity of understanding technological experiences through the assumption that all experience is embodied. Access to new technological tools has given way to an explosion of digital culture and experience, allowing artists and creative practitioners new ways of exploring a hybridization of creative practices. While individual aspects and themes covered here can be found in some recent books, few place digital embodiment within the arts in the way this book does. This unique synthesis first analyzes embodied experience through a study of space and virtuality, imagination, and technology. It next lays the groundwork for a more explicit understanding of the role of the body in our engagement with digital technologies, focusing on three distinct bodies: the gravitational body, the virtual body, and the hybrid body. The final section is a chronological exploration of the technological developments of virtual reality, virtual worlds, and augmented, mixed, and extended realities.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - An introduction to pedagogy of dissensus. A pedagogy of dissensus is informed by the dissensual characteristics of art. The book includes both theoretical foundations and examples of how the theory is unfolded in different contexts ranging from educational practice to arts-based research. Motivated by the author's long-held interest in the role of art in society in general and education in particular, it is a vital new contribution to arts-based approaches to education. Referencing philosophers and theorists such as Jacques Rancière, Gert Biesta, Dennis Atkinson, and Helga Eng, Lisbet Skregelid demonstrates why art matters because of its ability to create necessary disturbance and resistance in education. In this book, she argues that art has something to offer education because it challenges existing norms, has no definitive answers, and contributes to new ways of seeing both oneself, others, and one's surroundings. Placing art at the center and enabling dissensus in education can contribute as a contrast to the dominating policy led by economic ambition and competition.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - A cross-Canada journey into the studios of contemporary artists, revealing the studio as a vital window onto the thinking, learning, and creative processes shaping art today. Drawing on over one hundred studio visits and interviews with painters, this book offers a compelling exploration of the artist's studio--not as a static workspace, but as a dynamic, relational, and generative site of learning, thinking, and becoming. Alison Shields shows that the studio can be understood in four interwoven ways: as place, as process, as material thinking, and as dialogue with the world. As a place, it is where one dwells within subjective time and space, part of an active and interconnected ecosystem that, through artmaking, can transport us elsewhere. As a process, it is emergent, performative, generative, and always in a state of 'not knowing'. As material thinking, it bridges mind and matter, thought and feeling, allowing intuition to roam within embodied and often messy environments. As dialogue with the world, it is relational, imaginative, and responsive to the ongoing texture of lived experience. Rather than offering definitive conclusions, the book unfolds through a series of speculative propositions--drawn from the words and reflections of artists themselves--that illuminate the open-ended nature of creative processes. It invites not only artists but anyone curious about how we make, feel, and know to engage with the studio as a site of infinite possibility within an ever-changing ecology of practice.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Redefining paradigms of creation around a renewed vision of humankind and nature. A renaissance is underway that can be described as 'wild,' articulated around a renewed vision of humankind and nature. It can be seen as a response to environmental, societal, and ethical issues so acute that the very survival of humankind is in question. Artistic, philosophical, and political, it builds on the scientific revolutions of the last decades and positions itself in relation to technoscientific and transhumanist promises. Within this wild renaissance, humankind no longer aspires to impose its will on a passive, purposeless nature. Instead, it begins to listen to a new partner: the world around it. As humanity discovers the potential of these forces, it enters a relationship with them and allys its energy with its own. This volume explores this burgeoning renaissance by bringing together established figures in contemporary art and design with emerging creators at the forefront of this new movement. The works and practices analyzed here are shown in a new light, with a fresh understanding of their historical grounding, conceptual underpinnings, and significance for the present.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - An experimental exploration of writing, creativity, and knowledge-making through the radical act of cutting up books. Over six months, Ania Malinowska dismantled over four hundred books, reframing their content into 111 poetic epigrams and combining conscious methodical experimentation with the spontaneity of automatic writing. Blending theory, practice, and art, her new book champions this practice of 'textrapolation,' framing it as a method of critical composition that uses destruction as a form of discovery. At once a manifesto and a manual, Cutting Up Books addresses the crisis of creativity in academic and cultural practices while responding to contemporary challenges, including crises in education and perceived threats posed by large language models. Drawing on traditions of the cut-up, collage, and automatic writing, the book turns the materiality of text into a thinking tool, showing how breaking and reassembling language can generate new modes of understanding. Thematically, it connects literary experimentation with philosophy, media theory, and the crisis of creativity in the age of artificial intelligence. It reconsiders authorship, education, and the function of books in a culture increasingly defined by templates, automation, and cognitive fatigue.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - In the mid-1980s, film director Marco Bellocchio and renegade psychoanalyst Massimo Fagioli cowrote The Devil in the Flesh, a politically and sexually charged film illustrating some of Fagioli's controversial theories. Echoing the anti-Lacanian sentiment popularized by Gilles Deleuze, the film is perhaps best remembered for a scene in which the character Andrea misreads a section of the famous Greek tragedy Antigone. But this scene has itself been frequently misread, opening up the text to questions of feminism, politics, and the representation of Antigone--a figure frequently used and abused in feminist politics. Displaying considerable analytic depth, Misreading Postmodern Antigone considers these divergent readings and what they have to tell us about contemporary society.

The authors aim to understand the afterlife of scientific institutions and practices and the 'aftertime' of scientific modernity and its attendant visions of progress and transformation. Straightforward scholarly work is juxtaposed here with altogether more experimental approaches to fieldwork and analysis, including interview fragments; brief, reflective essays; and a rich photographic archive. The result is an unprecedented view of the lingering traces of medical science from Africa's past.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - This book offers global perspectives on art education as a distinctive practice that emerges from community relationships. Invoking transversality as a theoretical framework and a methodological structure, the fifty-five contributors to this volume--community professionals, scholars, artists, educators, and activists from sixteen countries--offer studies and practical examples that explore the complexities of community arts education at all levels. These complexities include challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic; ongoing efforts to achieve justice for Indigenous peoples; immigration; the growing recognition of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace; among other challenges. The book's chapters fall under four themes--connections, practices, spaces, and relations--that map these and other intersecting assemblages of transversality. Thinking transversally about community art education shifts our understanding of knowledge from a passive construct to an active component of social life. This framework also redefines art education as a distinctive practice emerging from the intricate ties that form a community.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Cultural politics in women's performance art. This book uses the work of British live artist and Showwoman Marisa Carnesky to showcase women working in radical ways. The term 'Showwoman' introduces a new identity--a performer who does not control or exploit others but opens up a possibility for collaboration that enables shared experience. As Obsessions of a Showwoman explores this concept, it traces a trajectory of incredible and weird women at work, including showgirls, hairhangers, fire walkers, animal mesmerists, and more. Carnesky has been a central figure in performance and live art in the last thirty years, and her practice as a Showwoman promotes alternative visions of matriarchal entertainment utopias and a new relationship to women's position in power and politics. Carnesky continues an important lineage of performing women with bombastic theatrical flair whose extraordinary skill and artistry are often overlooked. Exploring contemporary and historical performance in popular and marginal entertainment forms, this work treads the margins of cabaret and live art, disrupts normative ideologies through the spectacular, and opens new lines of feminist inquiry through weirdness, absurdity, and provocation in live art and popular culture.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - An exploration of the multidisciplinary creative culture encapsulated by the term industrial art, which spans musical, visual, multimedia, and performance arts. Industrial music appeared in the mid-1970s, and far from being a simple sound experimentation phenomenon, it quickly spawned a coherent visual culture operating at the intersection of a multitude of media (collage, mail art, installation, film, performance, sound, and video), and initiated a close inspection of the legacy of modernity and the growing pervasive influence of technology. Deriving their sources from the modernist utopias of the first part of the twentieth century, the sound experiments conducted by industrial bands, including designing synthesizers and transforming recorded sounds from audio tapes either recycled or laid down by the artists, were backed up by a rich array of radical visual productions. Such saturated sounds were translated into abrasive images, manipulated through the détournement of reprographic techniques (Xerox art), that investigated polemical themes: mind control, criminality, occultism, pornography, psychiatry, and totalitarianism, among others. This book aims to introduce the visual and aesthetic elements of industrial culture to a general history of contemporary art by analyzing the different approaches taken and topics addressed by the movement and the artists who perceptively anticipated the current discourse concerning the media and its collective coercive power.
