The tops of the pages are dyed dark blue. The frontispiece has brown illustration titled "Dante Alighieri from the bronze bust in Naples" that is printed on coated stock with original tissue. There are also 10 black & white maps, plates, and tables within the text or at the end of the text. This Book is very tight. The front & back boards have a some edgewear with bumped corners. The incised owl illustration on the front board is well-defined. The backstrip has some edgewear. The gilt lettering & fancy frame are very bright. The previous owner wrote name along the inside front board's top edge. The endpapers are lightly age discolored. The leaves are very clean with no markings.
