First edition (not stated) SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. i-xiii, 1-231 plages plus unnumbered illustrated pages. Hardcover: H 28.25cm x L 22cm. Dust jacket well toned with scuffing, chipping, and tears; front and rear panel sailboat illustrations quite muted; front flap's top right corner is price-clipped. Blue cloth. Text block edges toned. Author's ink signature "Edwin W. Beitzell" on the front free endpaper. Laid-in at front endpapers is a book review evidently clipped from March 1969 issue of "Georgetown Today" with a photocopy of the author's reply; toned and slightly edge-worn duplicates of the dj's front and rear flaps laid-in at pages 80-81; interior leaves are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. Typescript -style text. This first edition of Beitzell's monograph is rather uncommon; the book was reprinted in 1973, 1979, and 2001.
