There is still a gender gap in various instances of patriarchal cultures, and though an abundant catalogue of feminist literature has continued to investigate the reasons for and developments of these gender gaps, I agree with masculinity researcher Harry Brod in that the key to the gender gap lies in the study of men, not women. Examining the specific cases of twelve salarymen, this thesis illuminates their views with hegemonic masculinity, gender discrepancy, gender constructionist and gender boundary theories. It builds upon already existing empirical research of Tomoko Hidaka (2010), Masako Ishii-Kuntz (1993, 2003), Romit Dasgupta (2000, 2003), Gordon Mathews (2003) and to some degree, Anne Allison (1994). 128 pp. Englisch.

The hydrogel thin film attached on a sensor surface served both as a binding matrix and as an optical waveguide for probing molecules interactions. With the water sector reforms in Kenya, there is now emphasis…on strengthening the pro-poor focus of the sector. With this, institutions have been established to formalize water services: licensed water service providers (WSPs) in large towns; a national WSP regulator namely the Water Services Regulatory Board; and a WSP pro-poor financier namely the Water Services Trust Fund. This study assesses the influence of formalized water provision on the quality of life of urban slum dwellers. It explores the perceived impacts of an operational pilot water project implemented in 2009 by Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company in Kosovo village of Mathare slum, with funding from the Water Services Trust Fund. Variables under review in the study are affordability of water, access to water, quality of water and the water utility's pro-poor focus in water provision. The research findings could act as benchmark to guide the formalization of water services by licensed water utilities in similar urban informal settlements of Kenya. 104 pp. Englisch.

The growing importance of human resources for organizational success has led to an increasing interest in making personnel management a more integral, strategy-driven activity in organizations. Thus, the most successful companies focus on strategic implementation of human resources practices linked with overall organizational strategy, goals and objectives. This study examines whether SHRM is applied in Azerbaijan. To investigate this study qualitative method of data collection was used to generate the data required to achieve the objectives of the study. Interviews were conducted with Heads of resourcing, Training & Development, Employee Relations at two oil companies. The findings show that SHRM is applied at these companies. Foreign-based company, BP AGT is more experienced in SHRM. However, SOCAR considers the importance of SHRM and differentiates it from administrative HRM or Personnel Management. 60 pp. Englisch.

Through the research,two recurring motifs appeared spontaneously in narratives:virginity and headscarf.These two notions were paramount in almost every interviewee s identification with the image of the German- Turkish immigrant woman. The main goal of this research was to allow these women to speak out as individuals who wish to construct their own identities and definitions of honor as opposed to being confined by stereotypes. 96 pp. Englisch.

The study uses a Multinomial Logit (MNL) model t…o examine the underlying determinants of choosing ways to dispose garbage, i.e., rubbish pit inside compound, rubbish pit outside compound, rubbish bin, thrown outside and other. The descriptive results reveal that about 35% of the respondents used rubbish bin, and approximately 24% were using throwing out option. This is against the use of rubbish pit outside compound, rubbish pit inside compound and other. Estimation results of a MNL suggest that household choices of these practices are determined by a certain combination of factors such as age, education and occupation of the household head, distance to the main road, home ownership, proportions of females and family members above 45 years, expenditure per adult equivalent and municipality location. This study provides useful insights into sustainable Solid Waste Management practices in Dar es Salaam city. 104 pp. Englisch.
