In this study the leap year wedding superstition inconsistency is addressed statistically. In doing so, ULMS (2003) data set is used. Based on a series of comprehensive statistical tests it is shown that the fraction of divorces and average duration of marriages in leap years are not statistically different from the same indicators associated with non-leap years. It is revealed in the study that Cameroon embarked on external borrowing in order to meet domestic expenditure and ensure a stable and viabl…e local economy for meaningful development. Against this background series of international loans were contracted in order to uplift the living standards of Cameroonians. The underdevelopment theory is used as the theoretical framework to guide the study and test the propositions. The findings showed that Cameroon's international debt is a curse rather than a cure as the country devotes a greater part of its resources and revenue to the management of these loans and consequently cannot raise financial capital capable of fostering development. The study recommends the collective will of African countries to build self-sustaining local economies, reject massive expropriation of local resources and capital flight and the consequent rejection of external loans which often come with stringent conditionality meant to perpetuate underdevelopment. 92 pp. Englisch.

This was done in defiance of both the company…and the government. They continued this illegal action for five days as their numbers multiplied, until overpowered by the police and military. Clashes broke out and degenerated into general violence and vandalism in nearby Koidu city that lasted for several days. At first glance this bold and defiant act appears to add to the body of evidence of the changing social norms of youth in post-war Sierra Leone, who are less deferent to authority, and more demanding of their rights. However, this defiant posture was reversed only two months later, during the local elections, at which time these same youth became staunch supporters of the ruling APC party, and youth groups aligned themselves with 'the government of the day'. This case suggests that, despite the evidence of changing attitudes many youth hold about deference to elders and reciprocity in relationships, patrimonialism continues to shape, and to limit, their engagement in the public domain. 104 pp. Englisch.

This book assesses the state of water supply and sanitation in Harare, to determine the factors…leading to the high prevalence of cholera. The study established that the crumbling and dilapidated water supply and sanitation infrastructure, coupled with poor waste management and erosion of hygiene behaviour, has led to the highest records of cases and deaths ever recorded in Zimbabwean history. The situation has been aggravated by very close to the surface water table, which allowed easy contamination of ground water through seepage and overland flow.The study therefore recommends a complete overhaul of the water and sanitation infrastructure proper management of wastes, adequate preliminary study of ground water when digging and drilling wells and bore holes respectively, proper enforcement of water and sanitation regulations, and strengthening of WASH education. The analysis should be useful to development planners, residence, academics and policy makers to make informed decisions in water supply and sanitation issues. 76 pp. Englisch.
