Over half (54%) of Botswana's population currently lives in the urban settlements. Despite the fact that urbanization has benefited Botswana's economic and social development, it has also generated wide range of socio-economic challenges. This book presents the findings of the study on the social determinants of health conducted among the poor urban residents in Gaborone, Botswana. The book should be useful to policy makers in governments, International development partners, Non Governmental Organizations and scholars in the field of public and urban health.

Using a copula approach compared to normality assumptions for the BRIC stock markets, using data b…etween January 2007 and December 2010. VaR and ES are estimated using standard normality assumptions and with the use of copulas in which first the markets marginal distributions are estimated, after which the right copula for the indicated dependence between markets is determined based on maximum likelihood and Kendall s tau estimates. Employing Monte Carlo simulation, this research finds that daily VaR estimates can be as much as 1.73% higher for those based on copulas. This effect is mainly caused by the presence of tail dependence in the markets under research. Similarly, ES estimates differ up to 4.19%. This research therefore indicates that risk measures based on normality assumptions severely underestimate risk in these markets due to their inability to take tail dependence into account. 64 pp. Englisch.

These issues include societal ones and how disabled people are perceived, also physical and psychological issues with respect to how the disabled person lives and copes with their disability. Upon research, it is apparent that one in ten Irish people carry some form of disability; and these people are two and a half times more likely to be in unemployment. It is also apparent that there is still some way to go before there are universally equal opportunities for those who are disabled and able to work, and those who are not disabled. The overall findings showed some very interesting content. A major obstacle to disabled people is that of how they are perceived. Additionally, among the studies of solidarity, few of them connect it with the notion of social capital. Through coding and interpreting narratives, I intend to explore how the UMWA produced and extended social capital among coalfield residents.
