The Mobile Acquisition Platform for Sleep Assessment (MAPSA) is an easy-to-use and interactive system, which monitors several physiological signals, as well as sleep related information, through sleep and dream e-diaries. While this system acquires a limited set of physiological data, it does not signi cantly interfere with the normal routine of the patient, which allows long time monitoring exams and the diagnosis of other types of disorders not easily detectable by the polysomnography. This study attempts to quantify the required environmental flows for healthy ecosystem and demonstrates the application of hydraulic and hydrological based methods for major Afghanistan river basins. Indicators of Hydrologic Alteration (IHA) method considering Range of Variability Analysis (RVA) were used to estimate the need of environmental flows and were compared with other hydrological based approaches. Maintaining environmental flows of a river means reducing the water demand of one or more sectors. Keeping this in perspective, reservoir simulation technique was applied to operate the proposed reservoir (Salma Dam). Alternative mitigation measures were suggested to reduce the impacts of allocating EF on irrigation and hydroelectric demands. This data is described as a multi- fractal stochastic process. We first introduc…e a class of random multiplicative measures, which provide the multi-fractality in the stochastic processes. We also review the theory of fractal dimensions and scaling functions, before introducing the Multifractal Model of Asset Returns (MMAR), [15]. The scaling properties of various versions of the MMAR model are compared with the scaling function of the AE Index, and through this we describe the multi-fractal properties of the AE Index. Additionally, we have studied probability density functions (pdf) at different time scales, and used this to compare the stochastic models with the AE data. Finally we have tested our diagnostic tools on simulated multi-fractal models. These experiments show that the methods are capable of detecting multi-fractality. 68 pp. Englisch.

I hypothesize that testing different alkalis, polymers and surfactants will result not only in getting different profiles of rheological properties of ASP system, but also analyzing compatibility degrees of chemicals with formation fluids and rock properties such as rock wettability, oil mobility and sweep efficiency which will be affected by the designed ASP system. This study mainly focuses on the removal of ammonia nitrogen in water b…y adsorption in locally available over burnt brick. The study was carried out in a 4.2cm internal diameter column of 120 cm length packed with over burnt brick in up flow mode. The study showed that the ammonia nitrogen removal rate increased with increase in contact time which decreased with time until steady state condition is attained .The contact time varied from 4 hours to 9.5 hours for different particle sizes. The optimal value of adsorption rate constant was found as 0.1097 for particle size of 0.850-0.600mm at corresponding contact time of 7 hours. The adsorption data appears to fit the Freundlich's isotherm. The fixed bed adsorption operation indicated that the ammonia nitrogen is the function of service time, bed depth and flow. Linear regression model showing correlation of these parameters has been developed. 76 pp. Englisch.

This book studies crash data and develops a prediction model for injury road traffic crashes occurring on rural highways in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Data was collected from rural highway sections of varying lengths. Data collected for each segment comprised injury crash data, traffic flow and speed data, and roadway characteristics and road geometry data. The Generalised Linear Model (GLM) with Negative Binomial (NB) error structure was used to estimate the model parameters. Crash rates were initially related to each explanatory variable in turn to ascertain if any relationships existed. Two types of models, the 'core' model which included key exposure variables only and the 'full' model which included a wider range of variables were developed and interpretations given. Road and Traffic Engineers and Planners can apply the crash prediction model as a tool in safety improvement works and in the design of safer roads. 108 pp. Englisch.
