Recently, a fungus causing White Nose Syndrome has killed millions of bats in the United States. In order to improve bat conservation efforts, mobile ultrasonic surveys were conducted along two transects in Chautauqua County, NY during the summer of 2013. Surveys began 30 minutes after sunset on nights where the temperature was > 13 degrees Celsius, and were driven between 29 - 32 kmph. Twenty surveys were completed, and 1248 bats were identified to species. Loglinear analysis revealed a significant relationship between bat calling activity and forested habitats, specifically for big brown, silver haired, eastern red, and hoary bats. Wetland, stream, residential habitats and elevation were also shown to have a significant relationship with calling activity. This study supports the hypothesis that bats vary foraging behavior at the species level, and indicates the importance of forested habitats to bats. The phenomenon of salt precipitation is gradually increasing and is becoming a serious issue in the North Sea.During gas production the reservoir brine will evaporate leading to an increase of dissolved salt concentration. Once the solubility limit is exceeded salt precipitation occurs which can have a detrimental impact. Salt precipitation results in a decrease in porosity and ultimately in a decrease of gas production eventually killing the well. Salt precipitation increases towards the end of the life time of gas fields. The yield of white cabbage was not influenced by EM treatment, although storage loss was lower with EM treatment. EM improved soybeans seed germination. To conclude, EM had a positive influence on the growth, development, yield and storage of vegetables and soybeans, with greater yields and less storage losses. Screening identifies the precancerous lesions, which helps in prevention and further progression to cancer. Despite the limited accuracy of the Conventional Pap, liquid based cytology (LBC) has been introduced in the NHS Cervical screening programme (NHSCSP) UK. National institute of clinical excellence (NICE) recommended a pilot study to evaluate the accuracy of LBC in 2003 and the pilot report showed that LBC reduces the inadequate rates of samples. However, there were insufficient evidence to justify the sensitivity and specificity of LBC. Many studies compared the accuracy between LBC and the Conventional method; some studies showed that LBC is sensitive in detecting CIN2 or worse lesions and some study found no difference between the two methods. This study looked at the reporting profile of cytology in England over the past 10 year period for comparing the two methods. LBC has been introduced in the NHSCSP in the year 2003/04 and the complete rollout of LBC was done in 2008. Current evidences show inconclusive association between OSA and insulin resistance (IR). This study aims to examine possible correlation between OSA parameters and IR. A total of 62 patients underwent PSG within the study period, of which 16 patients were excluded due to abnormal fasting blood sugar. Information on patients¿ medical illnesses, medications, and Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) was obtained. Patients¿ body mass index (BMI), neck circumference, and waist circumference (WC) were measured. Blood samples were collected after 8 hours of fasting to measure HOMA¿IR value. Overnight PSG was performed for all patients. Data was recorded and analyzed. The prevalence of IR in OSA patients was 64.3%. There was significant correlation between OSA parameters (apnea-hypopnea index, ESS, BMI, and WC) and HOMA¿IR with correlation coefficient of 0.529, 0.224, 0.261, and 0.354, respectively.
