The data was collected from a sample of 70 bank clerks in Alice and King William s Town…, using a self-designed biographical and occupational data questionnaire; a participative leadership questionnaire adopted from Sagie, Zaidman & Amichai-Humburger (2002); and Mowday, Steers, and Porter s (1979) organisational commitment questionnaire. Participative leadership was measured as a unitary concept while organisational commitment was measured in the following four ways: as an acceptance of the organisation s values and goals (values); as loyalty to the organisation (loyalty); as preparedness to expend extra effort for the organisation s benefit (effort); and as a combination of the three component scores (total oc). For the total sample, participative leadership was found to be significantly positively correlated with total oc, and with effort. For males only, it was found to be significantly positively correlated with total oc; and for females only, it was significantly positively correlated with effort. 92 pp. Englisch.

The loans and advances made to agricultural sector in the state by each financing institutions showed a significant growth over the study period. The most important factor influencing the flow of crop loans was the land holding, HYV, fertilizer use, and bank branch expansion. The incremental capital output ratio had shown positive trend of efficiency of agricultural credit. The flow of agricultural loans and advances proved to have significant positive impact at state level. The significant effect was seen in the recovery performance of agricultural advances and profitability and thereby the viability of commercial banks. The ranking by garret scoring technique for reasons of mounting overdues indicated that the labour problem was main reason. Impact of agricultural credit lending programme was indicated that most of the farmers expressed the positive impact of the programme on the agricultural improvement. 56 pp. Englisch.

Hence, a model which examin…es the impacts of work engagement dimensions (vigor, dedication, and absorption) on service recovery performance, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions was developed and tested. In addition, the relationships among service recovery performance, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions were investigated. With the purpose in mind, frontline employees in the four- and five-star hotels of Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, were used as the sample. Based on the results, none of the dimensions of work engagement had a significant effect on service recovery performance and turnover intentions. Of the dimensions of work engagement, vigor was found to have a significant and positive impact on job satisfaction. The rest of the dimensions did not significantly affect job satisfaction. Employees with higher job satisfaction had lower turnover intentions. Service recovery performance did not significantly impact job satisfaction and turnover intentions. 64 pp. Englisch.

This study examines the impact of debt forgiveness under the HIPC initiative on the sovereign credit ratings of the 32 countries who have received full irrevocable debt forgiveness as agreed under the program. Linking debt forgiveness and macroeconomic performance after mandatory HIPC structural adjustment, I find that debt forgiveness does not significantly impact Euromoney Sovereign Credit ratings possibly due in part to history and the persistent character of Sovereign Credit ratings. 76 pp. Englisch.

This paper attempts the first national-scale…empirical test on FDI s effect on small domestic firms in China. Fixed-effects regressions are run on a comprehensive dataset of 214 prefectures in 1999 and 2003. The analysis shows a significant trade-off between FDI and small domestic firms in 1999 that then turns positive in 2003. The remainder of the paper tests three hypotheses to explain this change in FDI s effect over time and find that competitive shock and FDI preferential policies are the main reasons for the trade-off between FDI and entrepreneurship in China. 80 pp. Englisch.

Using a sample of 133 large U.S firms over the period 2005 to 20…09, we explore the correlation of price to book value with board of director s structure (composition and size). Our results show that smaller and younger boards with less independent directors lead to a higher firm performance. We further find that the presence of women on board is important rather than their number. The outcome of the study shows also that financial expertise of audit committee members has a significant and positive influence on the amount of tax fees. Overall, the results suggest that board characteristics are important and they influence firm performance. 84 pp. Englisch.
