Hardback. Condizione: Fair-good. First Edition Thus. 1833. Twenty-eighth year of publication, first edition thus. Lacking the map. viii, [i], 245pp., plus 40pp. and 7 pages of advertisements. This is a scarce early directory that should be of interest to both local historians and genealogists. The book contains a general directory for Edinburgh and its environs, with addresses and occupations where applicable, an Edinburgh street directory, alphabetical list of professions and principal trades, and a two-penny post town directory. The appendix includes information on delivery of letters, lists of Post-Towns, insurance companies, etc. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered boards. Most of the spine is missing but the portion with the paper title label is present although the label is very worn. The boards have shelf wear with soiling and staining and there is a strip of old white cloth around the bottom of the spine. The corners are bumped with damage and some loss to the cloth around the corner tips. The front board feels loose and is only held in place by the cords and an old home repair of a strip of white tape down the spine edges of the front fixed endpaper and the title-page. The contents are secure and clean apart from a few light marks from finger smudges, etc., and some light soiling on the title-page. There is no inscription. Overall, this is probably best regarded as being a reading and reference copy.…
