Soft cover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. A.A. Milne / E.H. Shepard - Christopher Robin Gives a Pooh Party (Magnet / Piglet Paperback, 1982) Publisher: Magnet Books / Methuen Children's Books (Mammoth imprint) ISBN: 041624470X / 0 416 24470 X Publication Date: 1982 (first in this Piglet paperback format) Condition: Good Covers show creasing, edge wear, rubbing, and some surface marks consistent with a much-loved 1980s children's book. Spine intact but creased. Pages are clean with minor age-toning and handling wrinkles. No major tears or missing pages. Personal gift inscription on front endpaper: "For Andrew, Easter 1982" in blue ink - adds lovely period provenance. Story Summary This delightful standalone edition contains the complete Chapter 10 from A.A. Milne's classic Winnie-the-Pooh: "In which Christopher Robin Gives a Pooh Party, and We Say Good-bye." Christopher Robin organises a special party to honour Pooh for bravely rescuing Piglet from the flood using his "Floating Bear" and "Brain of Pooh." Expect Eeyore's gloom, Owl's pomposity, Roo's excitement, Pooh's anxious song, and the presentation of a very special pencil case - all wrapped in gentle humour and heart-warming friendship. Perfect for reading aloud to young children or as a nostalgic collectible for Pooh fans. Author: A.A. Milne (1882-1956) Alan Alexander Milne was an English writer, playwright, and poet best known for his children's books featuring Winnie-the-Pooh. Born in London, Milne studied at Cambridge and worked as an assistant editor at the famous humour magazine Punch. He served in World War I before achieving success with light verse, plays, and novels. His greatest fame came from the Pooh stories, inspired by his son Christopher Robin Milne and his son's stuffed toys. The books Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928), along with poetry collections When We Were Very Young (1924) and Now We Are Six (1927), have enchanted generations worldwide. Though Milne wrote for adults too, the gentle, whimsical world of the Hundred Acre Wood remains his enduring legacy. Illustrator: E.H. Shepard (1879-1976) Ernest Howard Shepard, OBE, MC, was a British artist and book illustrator whose pen-and-ink drawings perfectly captured the charm of Milne's characters. Nicknamed "Kip," Shepard studied at the Royal Academy Schools and worked as a cartoonist for Punch. His collaboration with Milne produced the iconic depictions of Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Christopher Robin, and the rest of the gang, based on real toys and the Ashdown Forest landscape. Shepard also famously illustrated Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows. His warm, expressive line work has defined the visual world of Pooh for nearly a century. Original Shepard illustrations from the Pooh books are highly prized; one map of the Hundred Acre Wood sold for a record sum. Edition Notes This is a scarce-to-find-in-nice-condition early Magnet "Piglet paperback" - part of a popular series of individual Pooh stories issued for younger readers in the early 1980s. The vibrant orange-red cover features Shepard's classic group illustration (Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit, Eeyore, etc.), with additional charming drawings throughout. Back cover includes a list of other titles in the series and the iconic Magnet logo. A wonderful piece of British children's publishing history and a perfect entry point into the world of Winnie-the-Pooh. Authentic 1982 edition with matching cover and illustrations as shown. Personal Easter 1982 inscription - a lovely time-capsule touch. Shepard's timeless artwork in its original context. Ideal for Pooh collectors, children's literature enthusiasts, or as a gift for a new generation. E.H. Shepard (illustratore).…

Soft cover. Condizione: Good. Kanga and Baby Roo Come to the Forest A.A. Milne Illustrated by Ernest H. Shepard Magnet Books / Methuen Children's Books Ltd, London First Magnet paperback edition 1981 (reprinted 1981) 32 pages. Approx. 19 x 15 cm (small-format paperback). Full-colour illustrations throughout. This is the 1981 UK Magnet paperback edition from the highly collectible "Piglet Picture Paperbacks" / Winnie-the-Pooh storybook series. It contains the complete, self-contained chapter "Kanga and Baby Roo Come to the Forest" (originally Chapter VII of the 1926 classic Winnie-the-Pooh), specially extracted and presented for younger readers. The story features the arrival of Kanga and Baby Roo in the Hundred Acre Wood, Piglet's terrifying journey inside Kanga's pocket, the famous "Aha!" plan devised by Rabbit, Pooh, and Piglet, Roo's first bath, and the introduction of "Henry Pootel" (Piglet's temporary alias). It is a delightful, standalone tale complete with all the original humour, poetry ("Lines Written by a Bear of Very Little Brain"), and gentle wisdom that has charmed generations. Edition specifics: Text by A.A. Milne. Line illustrations by Ernest H. Shepard. Colouring of the illustrations © 1970 by Ernest H. Shepard and Methuen & Co. Ltd and © 1973 by Ernest H. Shepard and Methuen Children's Books Ltd. First published in this edition 1975 by Methuen Children's Books Ltd. Magnet paperback edition first published 1981. Reprinted 1981. Printed and bound in Great Britain by Hazell Watson & Viney Ltd, Aylesbury, Bucks. This is the true first Magnet printing (yellow cover with the iconic Shepard bathing scene). Cover: Bright yellow background with the classic full-colour Shepard illustration. Title in bold black lettering. "A.A. MILNE / Illustrated by Ernest Shepard" and small Magnet logo at foot. Minor shelf wear, light creasing to spine and edges, and some surface scuffs consistent with age and library use (see photos). Interior: Clean, bright text pages with all the beloved Shepard colour illustrations intact and vibrant (including the famous bath-time scene, Piglet in Kanga's pocket, the poetry pages, Christopher Robin, Rabbit writing the Plan to Capture Baby Roo, Pooh and friends in the forest, etc.). The book opens with the title page and the charming subtitle: "In which Piglet goes on a Terrifying Journey and Kanga meets Henry Pootel Piglet…". Ends with the full copyright and series list of other Piglet paperbacks (Piglet Meets a Heffalump, Eeyore Has a Birthday, etc.). Condition: Good / reading copy. This is an ex-library copy from Featherby C.P. Infants School (clear blue library stamp on the front endpaper and title page verso - see photos). No other library markings, pockets, or stickers. Pages are lightly toned (typical for 1980s paper) but remain supple and fully readable with no tears, missing pages, or writing. Binding is tight and square. Covers show light rubbing and creasing from decades of enthusiastic young readers, but the book remains complete and charming. No inscriptions, no foxing, no odour. This 1981 Magnet edition is now quite scarce in any condition because it was a low-print-run mass-market children's paperback aimed at schools and libraries. The yellow-cover Piglet series is especially sought after by Pooh collectors and completists who want the individual storybooks rather than the full Winnie-the-Pooh volume. Perfect for: • Fans of the original Shepard-illustrated Pooh books • Parents/grandparents reading aloud to young children • School or nursery libraries • Winnie-the-Pooh completists wanting the 1981 Magnet set A delightful, affordable piece of Pooh history that captures the gentle magic of the Hundred Acre Wood exactly as Milne and Shepard intended. Ernest H. Shepard (illustratore).…

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Magnet paperback, 1983 reprint of the 1982 Magnet edition. Blue pictorial wrappers featuring Piglet at the window of his house. Magnet logo to lower cover. Original printed price 95p. ISBN 0 416 24480 7. Printed and bound in Great Britain by Hazell Watson & Viney Ltd, Aylesbury, Bucks. This standalone picture book reprints Chapter IX of A. A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh (Methuen, 14 October 1926), the episode in which Piglet, a Very Small Animal, finds himself entirely surrounded by floodwater. After days of rain he writes a "missage" in a bottle — "HELP! PIGLIT (ME)" / "IT'S ME PIGLIT, HELP HELP!" — and throws it from the window. Pooh, marooned with his honey pots on a branch, recovers the bottle, cannot read it, and later joins Christopher Robin in a makeshift boat (The Floating Bear / Brain of Pooh) to effect the rescue. The text is the original Milne wording, with Shepard's line drawings coloured for this children's format. Edition history as stated on the copyright page: text and line illustrations copyright under the Berne Convention; US copyright 1926 by E. P. Dutton & Co.; renewal 1954 by A. A. Milne; colouring of the illustrations copyright 1973 by Ernest H. Shepard and Methuen Children's Books Ltd; first published in this edition 1976 by Methuen Children's Books Ltd; Magnet paperback first published 1982; reprinted 1983. One of the "Piglet Paperbacks in Magnet Books" series, which excerpted complete stories from Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner for younger readers and reading aloud. Condition: Very Good used copy, consistent with a well-handled early-1980s children's paperback. Covers show minor creasing, corner bumps, edge-rubbing, light surface marks and some fading to the blue wrappers; Internally complete; pages age-toned in places with the usual handling wear of a read copy; no ownership inscriptions noted in the photographed leaves; binding holding. Please judge from the photographs, which show the actual book offered. A. A. Milne (Alan Alexander Milne, 1882-1956) was an English playwright, essayist and Punch contributor whose lasting fame rests on four children's books created around his son Christopher Robin and the nursery toys of Cotchford Farm and Ashdown Forest: When We Were Very Young (1924), Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), Now We Are Six (1927) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928). Before Pooh he was a successful West End dramatist; afterwards the books overshadowed the rest of his work. The flood episode is among the most anthologised Pooh chapters, balancing anxiety, friendship and comic invention. Ernest Howard Shepard (1879-1976), Punch cartoonist and one of the principal British book illustrators of the twentieth century, drew the original Pooh decorations from 1924 onward, using his son's bear Growler among other models. His economical line, combined here with the 1973 authorised colouring undertaken with Methuen in his lifetime, is the visual identity of the "classic" rather than Disney Pooh. Shepard also illustrated Grahame's The Wind in the Willows. These Magnet paperbacks are useful working copies of that Shepard/Milne collaboration rather than fine firsts. Suitable for readers, 1980s nostalgia, or as a filling copy in a Shepard/Milne working collection. Further photographs on request. Ernest Howard Shepard (illustratore).…

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Eeyore Finds the Wolery. A. A. Milne. Illustrated by E. H. Shepard. London: Magnet / Methuen Children's Books Ltd, 1982. Magnet paperback. ISBN 0 416 24680 X. A complete single story taken from The House at Pooh Corner (first published 1928), issued in Methuen's "Piglet paperbacks" series of short Pooh books for younger readers and for reading aloud. The chapter is the one in which Owl's house high in a tree is blown down in a gale; Rabbit leaves a misspelt notice that he is searching for a new house; Pooh composes a Respectful Song about Piglet; and Eeyore, after days of solitary meditation in his own corner of the Forest, announces that he has found "just the house for Owl." The house is Piglet's. Owl names it The Wolery. This Magnet edition reprints the text with E. H. Shepard's illustrations, including the later colouring of the line drawings (colouring copyrights 1973 and 1974, as stated on the copyright page). Front cover is the familiar bright yellow Magnet design showing Eeyore and Piglet; rear cover has Pooh and Piglet on the bench, the series blurb, original printed prices (UK 85p, Australia $2.95*, New Zealand $3.50) and the Magnet logo. Spine reads Milne / Eeyore finds the Wolery. Printed in Great Britain by Hazell Watson & Viney Ltd, Aylesbury, Bucks. First published in this edition 1977 by Methuen Children's Books Ltd; Magnet paperback edition first published 1982. 11 New Fetter Lane, London EC4P 4EE. Condition: Very Good used vintage paperback. Yellow card covers show creasing (notably lower front and general handling wear), light corner rub and the expected surface marks of a 1980s children's paperback. Spine is intact and the book remains firmly bound. Internals complete: half-title, title-page in the arched Magnet frame with small colour vignette of Eeyore, copyright and opening text, and the full run of colour and line illustrations. Mild age toning and the usual signs of a well-read copy. No writing or missing leaves noted. Photographs of the actual book form part of this description. About the author Alan Alexander Milne (1882-1956) was an English playwright, essayist and poet before the Pooh books overshadowed everything else he wrote. Winnie-the-Pooh appeared in 1926 and The House at Pooh Corner in 1928. Both grew out of the nursery of his son, Christopher Robin Milne, and the stuffed animals that lived there: the bear (Winnie, after the Winnipeg bear at London Zoo), Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo and later Tigger. Rabbit and Owl were Milne's own inventions. The stories are written in a precise, lightly ironic English that treats children's logic as a complete system. This slim Magnet volume isolates one of the best late chapters: Eeyore's mixture of neglect, dignity and accidental generosity, and Piglet's quiet bravery. About the illustrator Ernest Howard Shepard (1879-1976) was a Punch cartoonist and the defining artist of both Winnie-the-Pooh and Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows. His Pooh drawings were made from life in the sense that he used his own son's bear, Growler, as a model and worked from Milne's text rather than from Disney. The line is economical, the animals slightly shabby and wholly themselves. From the early 1970s Methuen issued coloured versions of those drawings; this Magnet paperback uses that coloured Shepard art. Shepard's name appears on the title-page as E. H. Shepard. A decent, complete example of an early-1980s Magnet Piglet paperback — not a first edition of the 1928 text, but a characteristic British children's reprint of the period, useful to collectors of Shepard-illustrated Pooh, Magnet paperbacks, or single-story Pooh extracts. Suitable as a reading copy or a nostalgic shelf copy. Questions welcome. Ernest Howard Shepard (illustratore).…

Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh, issued as a standalone Magnet paperback for younger readers and for reading aloud. Christopher Robin mentions that he has seen a Heffalump. Pooh decides they must catch one by means of a Cunning Trap: a Very Deep Pit baited with honey. Piglet will dig; Pooh will fetch the hunny. Night, hunger, a jar that will not come off, counting Heffalumps instead of sheep, and Piglet's anxious bravery follow. The text is the original Milne chapter, not a Disney retelling. Printed and bound in Great Britain by Hazell Watson & Viney Limited, Aylesbury, Bucks, member of the BPCC Group. ISBN 0 416 21710 9. About the author Alan Alexander Milne (1882-1956) was an English playwright, poet and essayist who became, somewhat to his later discomfort, one of the most famous children's writers in the language. Born in Kilburn, London, and educated at Westminster and Trinity College, Cambridge, he wrote for Punch and had a successful West End career before the two Pooh books. Winnie-the-Pooh (Methuen, 14 October 1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928) grew from the nursery toys of his son, Christopher Robin Milne, and from Ashdown Forest. The Heffalump chapter is Chapter V of the first book: "In Which Piglet Meets a Heffalump." Milne also published When We Were Very Young (1924) and Now We Are Six (1927). About the illustrator Ernest Howard Shepard (1879-1976), known as E. H. Shepard, was a painter, Punch cartoonist and the original illustrator of both Winnie-the-Pooh and Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows. His line drawings defined Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and the rest for generations; later colouring of those decorations (as in this Magnet edition) was issued under copyright dated 1970 and 1973. He is often called "the man who drew Pooh.". Ernest Howard Shepard (illustratore).…

paperback. Condizione: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

The binding is firm. It looks virtually unread and presents as a fresh copy from the original 1982 print run. A true collector's gem. Description & Story One sunny day, Mervyn Mouse and his friends decide to go camping—but the outdoor life has more than one surprise in store! Follow the charming gang of mice as they borrow gear from Auntie, ride in Old Pete's hay cart, struggle to pitch their tent, enjoy a campfire feast, tell spooky stories, and face a midnight adventure involving a tiger (and a helpful lion in the National Wildlife Park). Told in delightful rhyming verse with vibrant, humorous watercolour illustrations. A perfect bedtime read for ages 3-7. About the Author - Sylvia Creche Sylvia Creche is a British children's author best known for her warm, whimsical Mervyn Mouse series published in the early 1980s by Methuen/Magnet Books. Her stories feature endearing animal characters, gentle humour, and catchy rhymes that capture the joys and small mishaps of childhood adventures. The Mervyn Mouse books (including titles such as Mervyn Mouse at the Fair, Mervyn Mouse Joins the Sports Club, and Mervyn Mouse at the Zoo) remain fondly remembered for their light-hearted charm and engaging storytelling. About the Illustrator - Roger Twinn Roger Twinn is a talented British illustrator renowned for his expressive, lively artwork in children's literature. His illustrations for the Mervyn Mouse series are full of personality—exuberant mice with big eyes, detailed outdoor scenes, and playful action that perfectly complements Creche's text. Twinn's work brings energy and humour to every page, making the characters feel alive and the adventures immersive. His style is characteristic of high-quality 1980s British children's publishing. Edition Notes This is the true first edition (1982) of the standalone Magnet paperback. It is part of a small, collectible series that is increasingly hard to find in this condition. Outstanding condition for a 44-year-old children's paperback. Charming, nostalgic 1980s artwork and verse that appeals to both children and adult collectors of vintage picture books. Scarce title—few copies survive in As New state. Roger Twinn (illustratore). …
