Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. No matter how hard she tried, Kara the Kakapo just couldn't quite seem to master the art of flying. But with optimism, determination and a little creative thinking can Kara still achieve her dream? This delightful picture book is the writing debut from Wellington zookeeper Danni Rae. Her st…ory is paired with stunning illustrations from Northland artist Evan Heasman (also known as Soju Shots), which are a visual feast with vibrant colours and layers of detail to keep both children and adults enthralled. Danni wrote Kara the Kakapo, which is the first in a series of animal adventures, as a way to share her passion for conservation with the youngest of readers. As a zookeeper each day I have the opportunity to talk to children about the wonders of animals and conservation. I wanted to use this book as a way to allow children to connect with these animals at home as well, says Danni. Conservation requires optimism, determination and quite a lot of creative thinking and this story introduces children to these concepts through the experiences of one of New Zealand's most endangered species. Hopefully it's the first step in creating an awareness of the natural world around them and motivation to protect it. Danni says kakapo are not as well-known as endangered animals like the tiger or rhino, but she believes this special bird is one of the most unique species on the planet. Conservation is a passion Danni lives and breathes. In mid-April she completed the 3000km Te Araroa Trail (The Long Pathway), which runs the entire length of New Zealand, to raise money for community groups working tirelessly for wildlife conservation in Aotearoa. The journey took six months in all, with five months spent hiking and the other month including rest days, avoiding weather systems and the logistical challenges of covid lockdowns. Danni travelled alone, but had the pleasure of meeting other hikers and she made some incredible friendships on the journey. The trip was not without challenges, both physical and mental, but Danni said she learnt she was capable of pushing herself further than she could have imagined. In comparison the process of writing a book seemed a lot more straightforward with clear steps to follow, but hiking in nature aways provides awe and inspiration. No matter how hard she would try, Kara from Kakapo just couldn't quite seem to master the art of flying. But with optimism, determination and a little creative thinking can Kara still achieve her dream? Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. When beginning her career in Palliative Medicine, the author first met Dr Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. This meeting introduced her to the importance of being aware of one's own emotional issues when working with people who are suffering. As Elisabeth said, "You need to deal with your own sh*t fir…st". The book relates stories of people at the end of life who have continued to teach the author the importance of self-awareness. With more awareness there is less likelihood of projecting one's own issues into the situation and less likelihood of developing compassion fatigue or 'burnout'. It is also more possible to facilitate hope, healing and meaning for the dying. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The shepherd has been a constant presence in folklore and religion, usually as a symbol of the struggle between the powerful and common people, or as a wise leader. These poems reflect his love of the animals he worked with, his thirst for social justice, and his concern for the environment. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback . In 1853, only a lunatic would consider crossing the Syrian desert to see the Roman ruins at Palmyra. Most travellers from Europe rash enough to venture into the desert are never seen again, and a woman considering such a journey, without her husband, is preposterous. When Jane Digby, the L…ady Ellenborough, granddaughter of the Earl of Leicester, informs the British Consul in Damascus that this is what she intends to do, he quickly learns shes a woman who brooks no argument. In Syria, Jane hopes at last to settle, only to discover a world of recklessness and integrity, of cruelty and desire, where her own passion is stirred more than she ever dared hope for. The Remarkable Miss Digby is a hauntingly beautiful story of a woman determined to escape the confines of her class and gender, living during a time of religious and cultural upheaval which uncannily mirrors our own. Jane Digbys scandalous life has been well chronicled. She spent her last decades in Syria and in this enthralling book, author Patricia Donovan, drawing on her own experience in the Syrian desert, imagines Janes life in that wildland. In 1853, only a lunatic would consider crossing the Syrian desert to see the Roman ruins at Palmyra. These gracious homes dotted across the sun-drenched uplands of Hawkes Bay rose unashamedly from the golden fleeces on the sheeps backs, to become monuments to our settler heritage. Set in spacious grounds and framed by enormous exotic trees, such as oaks, gums or Norfolk pines, they stand a…s testament to the dreams of our ancestors who came to this fresh canvas of a country, which already had its own rich Maori culture, with a determination to put their own individualistic mark on the landscape. The Province of Hawkes Bay played its part in the New Zealand pastoral revolution that placed our country firmly at the forefront of the world agricultural scene. Today, New Zealand still pioneers the development of technologies in the farming sector. Strong crossbred wool, a natural durable fibre, started that process. This neglected product has, it seems, lost its golden touch yet these grand homes, mostly in very good repair, remain as symbols of the wool boom which helped to shape our colonialpast and to prepare us for our place in the new order. These gracious homes - dotted across the sun-drenched uplands of Hawke's Bay - rose unashamedly from the golden fleeces on the sheep's backs, to become monuments to our settler heritage. Set in spacious grounds and framed by enormous exotic trees, such as oaks, gums or Norfolk pines, they stand as testament to the dreams of our ancestors.
