Hardcover. Condizione: Good Plus. Covers the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods, the Bronze Age, Ch'in Dynasty, Han Dynasty, Sui Dynasty, T'ang Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty. There are chronological tables, maps, a general bibliography and index. Each chapter has its own Plates (Photographs). There are 118 in total, represented both in color and black-and-white. You can see the red covers of the book in the photos provided. They are, in the main, quite clean. There is light soiling just off the top edge of the spine and on the rear side of the spine. The gilt Chinese lettering on the spine is very bright (the book is entirely in English). A few of the cover say that you so I you decisions to challenge it will be a chill s corners have very mild creases. There's also a light crease off both of the spine ends. There is dust staining on all three page edges. However very little of it migrated onto the actual pages. It's a little hard to tell because the colors are quite similar. The pages with the color plates are semi-glossy. A few of them have some very mild foxing and I saw a few facing pages of text that had some very light foxing, meaning a little bit of a yellowish or amber tinting. The pages appear to be very clean. I've gone through them a number of times and only found a few specks. The main condition issue is creasing. Even though the bumps to the corners of the covers had only a minor impact on the covers themselves, they managed to create a very clear crease at the top corner of all the pages in the book, as well as a milder crease at the bottom corners of most of the pages in the book. None of these creases reaches onto the print or the illustrations. The rear inside cover and rear end paper form a map of the 'Principal trade routes of China during the Han Dynasty.' The map is in very good shape. The front inside cover and first front end paper form a large black-and-white photograph. The book is square and solidly bound from cover to cover. Everything is nicely tight. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments. There is a penned gift inscription off the top edge of the half-title page. There is no other writing to be found anywhere in the book. The book is housed in a very solid slipcase which looks pretty identical to the covers of the book. It is in quite decent condition. There are a few small spots of soiling, not much of anything to my eye. There is a bump/crease off the top edge of the spine. That's pretty much it for wear. From the preface: 'The exhibitions which traveled to Europe and America were unhesitatingly acclaimed as remarkable and we are indebted to the government of the People's Republic of China for having made their treasures available in these exhibitions, one of which is now to be shown in Australia. My involvement with the Australian exhibition originated with a request to assist with the preparation of the catalogue. Circumstances then permitted the production of this introductory book which was completed, in an inordinately short space of time, largely through the extraordinary efforts and efficiency of Derek Birdsall, the designer, and Gregory Vitiello, who edited the book. Such a book is inevitably limited. Its scope has been determined in principle by the contents of the Chinese Archaeological Exhibition to be shown in Australia. It is, therefore, intended only to provide an historical and cultural background to the arts of early China, and to introduce some of the recent finds which have so dramatically brought ancient China to life.'.…
