Soft cover. Condizione: As New. No Jacket. Note that letter "j" in Sharpe's Tijger-- this is the paperback first DUTCH LANGUAGE edition of the 14th or 15th "Sharpe" novel PUBLISHED -- said numeration depending on whether we count "Sharpe's Christmas," 1994 (which was actually a pair of short stories) as the 13th "novel." Also note this Dutch edition states "Erste druk" (first edition) "oktober 2001." In fact, preliminary page here lists only two of Cornwell's Sharpe novels as published by Meulenhoff in Amsterdam, this one (set in 1799) and then "Sharpe's triomf" -- which is set in 1803 -- listed as "verschinjnt" (to appear) "februari 2002." What's odd about that is that these are -- again -- the 14th and 15th Sharpe novels published in the U.K. and America -- the series having started with "Sharpe's Eagle" and "Sharpe's Gold", set in 1809 and 1810 respectively, but both published 1981. Then, starting with "Tiger" in 1997, Cornwell went back and wrote five PRE-quels, the first few set in India, covering the years 1799-1807. So, were the earlier PUBLISHED novels not available to this Dutch publisher, or did they simply decide to start publishing the series in chronological order, with the adventures occurring in 1799 and 1803 (the latter featuring the Battle of Assaye, in which Sharpe managed to do what few enlisted men of the era could ever hope to do -- win a field promotion)? 320 pp., and an uncommon book, possibly because it's in Dutch. ("Constant opwindend," sayeth Stephen King.) Reduced from $15.
