Full Suede. Condizione: Fine. No Jacket. First Edition, Limited/Signed Edition. Red suede leather binding, Edited by the Anvil, Middlesex School, Concord, MASS., 1927, Dedicated "To Mr. William Harold Taylor, Guide, Companion, And Friend To Every Boy Whose Name Appears On The Following Pages, This Book Is Gratefully And Affectionately Dedicated." Foreward states, "We believe that, by collecting here examples of what boys at Middlesex School have accomplished in the past in the way of verse, boys in the future also will be led to express in poetry those thoughts that otherwise might die without expression because they are too elusive, too musical, too fragile, or too sacred to find their way to kindred spirits through the medium of work-a-day prose.".Frederick Winsor. Versed included are those by Conrad Aiken (about 10 from 1907), Paul Hollister, Lamar Fleming, Everett Bradley (1909), John B. Hopkins and Faneuil Adams (1915), Sherman Skinner Rogers (1918), Robert Cameron Rogers (1919), Alan Stewart Rogers (1920), Brainerd Richardson Taylor (1922), Eduardo Andrade, Walter Gierasch, Robert E. Swartwout, George Barry Bingham (1924), Philip Hichborn (1925), William Knipe Root (1926), William Henry Howard, Eliot Chapple, Ralph George Carpenter, Jr., William Ezra Northey, Jr., Frederick Ayer, II, Howard Forrest Atwood, Robert French Evans (1929) My guess is the date which appears after the authors names might be the date they graduate since the last entry states 1929 even though the book has a printing date of 1927? The limitation page states:"This volume was set up and printed in the Middlesex School Print Shop. This Edition is limited to One Hundred Copies, of which this is No. 94 (94 is handwritten). At the end of the book in the Afterword it states: A quarter century is a long time, and we had much to choose from; natually, our choice may not always have been wise, but it is representative. The boys who wrote 20 years ago could not forsee the great history which has been made between their time and ours. The Anvil Board. This beautiful little book of 58 pages is stamped in gold, all page edges gilt, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, there are red illummed letter that start on each page. This book belonged to "Peter David Junkin" whose name appears also in gold stamping at the bottom of the cover, His bookplate also appears inside the front cover as well as inside the custom made clam shell type wrap around cover (cloth and boards). This bookplate was designed by Frederick G. Hall in 1904 (he is listed in important books on bookplates), the protective cover then slides into a custom made slipcase covered with cloth and leather with Junkin's name stamped in gold at the bottom. There are 5 raised bands and six compartments on the slipcase spine to make it appear as a book. The case alone would easily cost over 100.00 to make. It is a little faded but is in overall wonderful condition. Some wonderful pieces by Aikens and others in a very small limited edition. A real one-of-a-kind piece. None (illustratore).…
