Although the subjects are fictitious and there are no relationships between them, the title Reunion can automatically create their relationships and histories within the minds of those viewers who see the title and drawings together. Yet by drawing each portrait using only one stroke, the resulting single-line portraits are flimsy in both appearance and meaning. In taking her time to draw using this specific simple technique, Aki Goto is attempting to pursue a kind of Reality, Right or Wrong, the meaning of Relationships in the universe, and the relationship between Time and Existence.

The economy could face tsunamis and earthquakes, it could end up in deep valleys and reach high peaks, and it could be standing in front of the fiscal cliff. The fiscal cliff illustrates an abrupt and uncontrolled economic collapse, and the imagery of state leaders falling down cliffs is one of satire drawings' best known archetypes. The metaphor is strengthened by the cliff's many cultural appearances, and it has become a cultural icon itself due to films as Thelma and Louise, Looney Tunes and the Youtube fossil Tha Cliff from 2006. In the publication Fiscal Cliff, the topographic metaphor is used as a starting point for a visual game with symbols and characters that somehow has to deal with the fiscal fall. There might be multiple reasons why the fiscal cliff occurs, but once it's here it will affect us all. Erlend Peder Kvam (1994) is an artist and illustrator based in Oslo. As an illustrator he has been working with clients as Bloomberg Businessweek, Medium Editorial, BENEE and Pom Poko. He was formerly associated with the performative design collective Narves1biblioteket, and in 2020 he co-founded the zine label Foot Books.

Chiefly, the question of assemblage: in this case, joining things together without fasteners, simply by contact, through an essentially reversible process. Also, the issue of balance: the arrangement of empty space and solid shapes, of cast and blown glass, of fragile objects inserted in sturdy ones. And the notion of paradox: the possibility of elevation being located in the very weight of things, the effect of verticality through horizontality, and luminosity achieved through darkness-as evidenced by the name of the vases, Inchiostri, the Italian word for "inks.".

Since 2010 he is part of the artist group Aubry Broquard, which has been included in numerous exhibitions internationally, including the Swiss Institute of Contemporary Art in New York and MABA in Paris. Since 2017, Bastien Aubry continues his sculptural practice as a solo artist. Bastien Aubry's artistic approach consists of alienating everyday objects in a playful and ironic way. His creations celebrate the poetry of failure and the beauty of the less than perfect, an accident by design. The artist stages reality in his own world, exposing everyday absurdities and toying with the boundaries set by traditional artistic practices. Three-dimensional works are constrained by the material they are made of, and for Bastien Aubry, it is most important to recognize the physical property of each material in order to experiment with visually exiting effects. But here the influence is less about the cultural or tactical aspects of a fictional "post-apocalypse world". It appears in a more visceral and chaotic manner, even to where there is no regard for the functionality of the vehicles. It deals with a mess of hypothetical dreamed civilizations in states of post-collapse fallout, dissembling into loose factions and lone individuals warring for dwindling energy sources, in or on behalf of parasitic autos. Matt Lock Matt Lock is a self-taught artist living in the Northeastern USA. His work primarily consists of illustrations on letter-sized paper. Sometimes he will make paintings and larger works, or use mixed media. He is best known for his drawings of bizarre, often violent or intimate situations, many of which occur in dejected sci-fi settings. Repeating visual elements include accumulated garbage, work uniforms, fungal infections, imaginary plants, damaged or parasitic trans-humanist tech merged with flesh, and outdated unisex hairstyles.

Edie Fake's paintings start as self-portraits, and from there, they make a break for it, referencing elements of the trans and non-binary body through pattern, color and architectural metaphor. Edie's precise, intimately scaled, gouache-and-ink paintings on panel are structured around the physical aspects of transition and adaptation as well as mental and sexual health. Since moving from first Chicago, then to Los Angeles while briefly attending grad school at USC, to now the high desert of Joshua Tree in California, Edie's work has evolved from the acclaimed Memory Palaces series - reimagined facades of urban lesbian bars and gay nightclubs - to a new feeling of vulnerability due to shifts in the U. S. social and political climate. The work blurs lines between architecture and body with structures adorned by elements that seem to be both decorative and protective. Architectural components are used as visual metaphors for the ways in which definition and validation elude trans identities. Says Fake, "More and more I'm trying to bring an anarchy into that architecture, or a fantasy and ecstasy of what queer space is and can be. ".

Short scattered texts take inspiration from the cold vast emptiness of space, with applied human longings and hopes. Michael Dumontier and Neil Farber are founding members of the Royal Art Lodge. Since the dissolution of the influential Winnipeg art collective, Dumontier and Farber continue to work and create art together. Their work is in the permanent collections of: National Gallery of Canada; Vancouver Art Gallery; Canada Council Art Bank; Winnipeg Art Gallery; Centro De Arte Caja De Burgos (Spain); Takashi Murakami (Tokyo); Folkwang Museum (Essen); and La Maison Rouge (Paris). During his studies in Hamburg, Piller began working on the Peter Piller Archive, in which thousands of images and photos that he meticulously collected from sources such as magazines, the internet, postcards, and aerial photographs are organized, categorized, and assembled in series. His most important tools have always been his gift for precise observation and a subtle sense of humor, which allow Piller to discover serial, curious, and unusual elements in images that appear extremely banal and trivial, and to relate them to others. These include the aerial photo archive von erde schöner, based on 20,000 aerial photos and categorized into 23 series, which Piller has been working on since 2002. His drawings and his own photographs are also always serial. For example, as part of the series Peripheriewanderungen, which he began in 1994, the artist wandered around places and subsequently made drawings and photographs of his walks. The drawings in particular are strongly associative and reflect personal impressions and emotions triggered by the walks rather than being actual documentations or maps. For the series behind time (2017), Piller traveled to various places around the world to observe and photograph rare and special birds. However, instead of depicting them in their full glory, as ornithologists would, the artist always shows them at the exact moment they leave his field of view and ironically names the photographs after the name of the species of bird he photographed. Piller is currently engaging with prehistoric cave paintings that were created in southern Europe during the Ice Age, before humans became sedentary. On this topic as well, he has collected hundreds of photographs and scans from various European libraries, and has taken photographs and made drawings on dozens of trips to southern France and northern Spain. Piller has exhibited widely such as recently with Richard Prince at the Weserburg Museum, Bremen in 2021. Further solo exhibitions include the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München; Mies van der Rohe Haus, Berlin; Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg; Deichtorhallen, Hamburg; Kunstverein Braunschweig; Kunstmuseum Bonn; Kunstforum Baloise, Basel; Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam, among others. Paperback. Condizione: New. Georg Gatsas first visited our gallery at 35 Saint James Place in lower Manhattan soon after we moved in. When we met we discussed his practice and I was compelled to share with him what I was learning about the history of the neighborhood in which the gallery is located. This led him to a six month long undertaking which he eventually titled Five Points. My interest in the history of lower Manhattan was inevitable because remnants of the beginnings of modern New York are evident at every turn. Despite having grown up in the city, I had somehow never been situated in a neighborhood where history was so apparent. Through this newfound interest I compiled a small library, and one book stood out as something that might interest Georg Gatsas, who was a curious Swiss artist new to the Chinatown area at that time. He quickly connected the dots. He realized that this very neighborhood was one of the last refuges for artists 'downtown'. His project to document artists in the neighborhoods surrounding the gallery was prescient because of its ability to place itself within the neighborhood's history, as well as the history of how it is documented. Gatsas' New York creates a trajectory of images going as far back as Jacob Riis' How the other half lives, whose photographs of the blight of this neighborhood (made possible by the invention of flash photography) prompted city officials to tear down most of the Five Points between 1885 and 1895. What makes Georg Gatsas' work particularly significant is that it is a historical document. This approach puts the art back into artifact. Now we are looking at his images much in the way others must have looked at images of people in the same places over one hundred years ago. I enjoy imagining someone like Georg Gatsas in one hundred years looking at the book you are reading now, I wonder what they might have to say or might be able to learn about these places, people and things. - James Fuentes, New York City, October 2009.

The dreamlike stroll through Zurich follows observations of construction and destruction and traces the reactions and remnants of its inhabitants. Accompanied by drizzle and rain this ordinary walk provokes a sort of cleansing in the city with its two rivers, which is famous not only for its high living standard but also for its cleanliness. The drawings were made with felt pen in small notebooks. The hours-long work on the drawings, which are all made right on the spot, displaces Giezendanner into meditation and lets him perceive the urban space in different ways.

Their collaboration is a permanent dialogue nourished by their distinct personalities and a shared notion of diligence with the intention to reach more balance and fineness. Their work has covered many fields ranging from the design of small objects as jewellery to spatial arrangements and architecture, from craftsmanship to industrial scale, from drawings to videos and photography. They have collaborated with leading companies such as Vitra, Cappellini, Issey Miyake, Magis, Ligne Roset, Habitat and Kréo Gallery. Paperback. Condizione: New. Living and working together as part of the late 1960s Toronto counterculture, AA Bronson (b. Michael Tims, 1946, Vancouver), Felix Partz (b. Ronald Gabe, 1945, Winnipeg, d. 1994), and Jorge Zontal (b. Slobodan Saia-Levy, 1944, Parma, d. 1994) formalized their collaboration in 1969 as a single entity known as General Idea. From their earliest projects like staging of The 1970 Miss General Idea Pageant to their late activist initiatives around the AIDS crisis, General Idea explored multimedia, conceptual, and performance work as a tool for engaging with common culture and its repressions. A definitive retrospective of General Idea is currently travelling from the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Gropius Bau in Berlin. An extensive exhibition of these drawings has been shown at the Drawing Center in New York and MAMCO in Geneva. Less well-known are the group's drawings, the vast majority of which have never been seen. The drawings shown in A Rare Gift of the Tropics were all produced by Jorge Zontal, who made them as a habitual practice during the group's brainstorming meetings; however, given General Idea's mandate for co-authorship (and as demonstrated by the "GI" signature affixed by Zontal shortly before his death) as well as the circumstances under which they were executed, they are considered to be collaborative. The drawings assumed a greater regularity after 1985, the year the group left Toronto, which felt increasingly isolated from the global art world, for New York. As the 1980s wore on, their early joie de vivre was tempered by the pervasive presence of AIDS. In Bronson's words, it was a period "during which we had to face and somehow incorporate the illness and death of most of our friends, as well as Jorge and Felix themselves.
