Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Octavo, hardcover, VG in VG, lightly browned at edges, dj. 204 pp. Photo illustrated. Inside look at the horse racing and breeding industry, using Secretariat as a case study. Story of what happened after all the hoopla over the Triple-Crown-winning "Superhorse" died away and "the true value of Secretariat was put to the test. A syndicate made up of market breeders from the upper reaches of industry, real estate, insurance and banking had purchased shares of Secretariat, each share worth $190, 000--a total cash outlay of over $6 million. And each share now permitted its owner to breed one mare a year to the ' Superhorse, ' though without guarantee that he was actually a superstud. In fact, despite his unequaled track record, Secretariat's virility had been publicly slighted. According to one medical report, he was, in fact, a superdud.…

In this respect it is not a sequel to Kon~Tiki, Aku~Aku, The Ra Expeditions, or Fatu Hiva. Early Man and the Ocean is an anthology of reports and speeches previously published independently, which I have here combined and edited to form a coherent book. The original idea of such a composition came from Dr. Karl Jettmar, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Heidelberg, and a German version edited by him was published in 1975 under the title Zwischen den Kontinenten. It was hoped that the book would give guidance to the many people who have followed the discussions about human migration routes and cultural origins that developed in the wake of the primitive vessels Kon~Tiki and Ra when they, contrary to expert opinion given in advance managed to traverse the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans.…

This Sherlock Holmes play, an adaptation of Conan Doyle's "The Sign of the Four," was first performed on Broadway, where it ran for 236 performances during the 1978/1979 season, with Paxton Whitehead as Holmes. Keith Michell took over the role for the subsequent London production, and when it finally made it to Los Angeles in December 1980, we got the only-in-L.A. casting of Charlton Heston as Holmes. (With, weirdly, Jeremy Brett as Dr. Watson -- who must have been eyeing Heston the whole time, and thinking "I believe I could improve on this.") Heston also starred in the TV adaptation, filmed a decade later. Illustrated by (dj) Robert Van Nutt (illustratore).…
