Outline of a small square (1.5 x 1.5 cm.) visible on spine. (Possibly a label was removed leaving no residue, only a lighter hue). Owner's bookplate on front pastedown, foxing on prelims. (including frontis. color plate) and final leaves. Some foxing on engraved map, and foxing on plates (moderate on 3, splotches on others), occasional stains in text, but most text pages are clean. Yarnell had a very distinguished career which included predicting the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1932 making this an interesting association copy. Also with an ink stamp stating this book is with the compliments of well known Japanese politician and reformer Saburo Shimada.
