Soft cover. Condizione: New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 32 pages inside slightly stiffened covers, this is a book of reminiscence and memories from his early days in Goudhurst, that lovely Kent village with amazing views over surrounding countryside. Peter Harding is better known for a plethora of railway titles but he has now turned his attention to his own background! Written in a chatty and entertaining fashion, Peter has produced a very readable account of Kent, as represented by Goudhurst, in those post-war days. The front cover illustration, as with all Peter's books, is decorated by a superb drawing by Peter himself. Many local personalities are remembered, the village events and sports (a good deal on football and cricket, one match at nearby Horsmonden seeing Denis Compton dismissed first ball by a well-known Goudhurst policeman!), hops and hop-picking, walks and the local shops, and much also on the surrounding villages and attractions. Very nicely illustrated. A new book. The Author (illustratore).…

The railway closed in June 1961 but is fondly locally remembered. This is the latest version, 32 pages, "Reprinted with amendments 2016". The booklet was first published 1982 and there was a Revised edition in 1998, on which this reprint is based. The front cover illustration, as with all Peter's books, is decorated by a superb drawing by Peter himself. Marvellous text and photographs, divided primarily into: History of the Line, Description of the Route, Motive Power and Rolling Stock, 'Hop-Pickers' Specials, Timetables and Tickets, Closure, The Present Scene.
