Buch. Condizione: Neu.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Mountain of Paradise challenges conventional taxonomies of world civilizations by introducing a new and formidable candidate: the civilization of Greater California presently incubating as the evolution of California into a veritab…le «nation-state» or «world commonwealth» according to contemporary commentators and scholars. Through a series of reflective essays it clarifies the momentous implications of this claim by a thorough account of the genealogical origins of «California», permutation into its speculative moment of self-identity thanks to prolonged creative interchange with European thought and philosophy, advancement to status of a socio-economic powerhouse by the 1950s and 1960s, invention of distinctly Californian variants of political economy by the 1970s and 1980s, and present domination over regions formerly classified as «Greater California». In its range and originality Mountain of Paradise constitutes a robust contribution to current political, social, economic and global thematics. 200 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. 196 pp. Spanisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book explores the interplay between the transformative vision of feminist environmental humanities and the critical contribution of feminist speculative fiction to the debate about the climate crisis. It intervenes in the deba…te about the master narrative of the Anthropocene - and about the one-dimensional perspective that often characterises its literary representations - from a feminist perspective that also aims at decolonising the imagination. The ecofeminist stance of this book is informed by intersectionality and decolonial feminism and looks at dystopian and post-apocalyptic literary texts that consider the patriarchal domination of nature in its intersections with other injustices that play out within the Anthropocene. The study analyses the work of a variety of authors from several Anglophone literatures, focusing mainly on Alexis Wright, Nnedi Okorafor and N. K. Jemisin, and drawing comparison with authors such as Cherie Dimaline, Vandana Singh, and Jesmyn Ward. 246 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries in Ireland and Turkey can be seen as a period marked by competing visions for self-governance. Political oppression, social decline, and repeated uprisings inspired many committed w…riters to promote a sense of collective destiny as a remedy for national uncertainty. Among these writers were Constance Georgine Markievicz and Halide Edib Adivar, revolutionary female leaders whose rebellious spirit and activism had a global impact in the formative years of their nations. Notable parallels between their lives and their pivotal roles in the social change and cultural transformation of their country make them compelling subjects for comparison. This book deepens this comparative analysis through historiographical and narratological frameworks that focus on memory and literary form. It argues that Constance Markievicz and Halide Edib Adivar's works are textual efforts to uncover the truths obscured by the dominant and official narratives of Irish and Turkish politics, moving from individual experiences to collective ones. Additionally, the book highlights the close connection between the writers' sociopolitical activism and their literary output. This book explores Constance Markievicz and Halide Edib Adivar as exemplary writers of their generation who, through both their fiction and life writings, advocate for collective action. Their works mark a significant transition from resistance narratives to revolutionary ones, reflecting broader trajectories relevant to Irish and Turkish women. These female figures were chosen for analysis due to their significant efforts to advance women's equality, emancipation, and empowerment, strengthening their roles in both private and public life. The similarities between these two authors in terms of family background, character traits, and literary and intellectual pursuits make them fitting subjects for comparative analysis. Despite the various obstacles they faced, their bold and decisive actions, alongside their vulnerable emotional landscapes and efforts, center on questions of female self-representation and empowerment. We witness the revelation of self in the form of revolutionary nationalists and political activists through Halide Edib's and Countess Constance Markievicz's autobiography. Their text serves as a platform for leaving their mark on existence, transcending the silenced and invisible identities traditionally shaped by a male-dominated society. Despite their fragile inner worlds and tumultuous personal lives, their efforts primarily center on questions of existence and independence, Halide Edib Adivar and Constance Markievicz, both embodying an anti-imperial perspective, played a crucial role in revitalizing the cultural memory of their nations while responding to the prevailing imperial authority through radical societal changes and an elevation of women's status. They championed native culture, historical heritage, and national independence by advocating anti-imperialism and actively challenging patriarchy, colonial practices, cultural imperialism, and the masculinized national narratives of their time. As eccentric and rebellious nationalists, they sought various ways to assert their national identity and self-determination against imperial powers. Their opposition to authority united them on a shared political platform during a tumultuous era of feminist nationalism and political activism. Drawing inspiration from their cultural backgrounds, they critiqued patriarchal authority and imperial ideologies in their communities. 198 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This monograph demonstrates that the Epistle to the Hebrews and the Book of Revelation are results of highly creative, hypertextual reworking of the Acts of the Apostles. In both cases, this detailed reworking consists of around 700 stric…tly sequentially organized conceptual and often also linguistic correspondences to Acts. The strictly sequential, hypertextual dependence on Acts explains numerous surprising features of both Hebrews and Revelation. Critical explanations of such features, which are offered in this monograph, ensure the reliability of the new solution to the problem of the identities of Hebrews and Revelation, as well as their relationships to the Lucan, post-Pauline school of literary-theological production. 216 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -In education, as in other areas of human endeavour, we often strive for what is easiest, least troubling and most certain. We want clear, definitive answers to our questions. Ambiguity and complexity may be viewed as impediments to our… progress as learners, and doubt will sometimes be portrayed as a sign of weakness. This book pushes back against these tendencies. Informed by the work of Giacomo Leopardi, Arthur Schopenhauer, Simone Weil, Maxine Greene, Miguel de Unamuno, and Simone de Beauvoir, it explores some of the uncomfortable, unsettling, less frequently visited 'edges' of education. These conceptual and lived spaces often blur the boundaries between the possible and the impossible, setting limits while also opening up unexpected opportunities for teaching and learning. They are there for us all to experience, if only we can open our eyes to see them and muster the courage to investigate them.Lang, Peter GmbH, Gontardstraße 11, 10178 Berlin 144 pp. Englisch.

Besides dwelling on the factors that acted critically in exercising voting rights by the voters, the text also highlights how the voters establishe…d their hegemony while casting votes in accordance with their priorities. This book stands out not merely because it introduces new parameters of conceptualizing Indian politics, but also because it questions the widely accepted models of analysis. By innovatively deciphering the nature of voting behaviour, the book provides newer conceptual tools which will help future researchers to reconceptualise democracy in a different but theoretically persuasive model of analysis. Professor Dennis Dalton, Professor Emeritus of Political Science, Barnard College, Columbia University Meticulously organised and incisively analysed, this study offers a pan-Indian level of an in-depth analysis of the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha polls. The book convincingly argued that to make a sense of disparate socio-cultural, politico-ideological, and diverse lingual-geographical fault-lines of the Indian society, one needs not to lost in fabricating a pan-Indian model of its electoral algorithm.Conceptualisingafresh, it weaves an episteme to map Indian electoral democratic space through a prism of constant influx. - Professor (Dr.) Ronki Ram, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chair Professor of Political Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh 214 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -The late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries in Ireland and Turkey can be seen as a period marked by competing visions for self-governance. Political oppression, social decline, and repeated uprisings inspired many committed write…rs to promote a sense of collective destiny as a remedy for national uncertainty. Among these writers were Constance Georgine Markievicz and Halide Edib Ad¿var, revolutionary female leaders whose rebellious spirit and activism had a global impact in the formative years of their nations. Notable parallels between their lives and their pivotal roles in the social change and cultural transformation of their country make them compelling subjects for comparison. This book deepens this comparative analysis through historiographical and narratological frameworks that focus on memory and literary form. It argues that Constance Markievicz and Halide Edib Ad¿var's works are textual efforts to uncover the truths obscured by the dominant and official narratives of Irish and Turkish politics, moving from individual experiences to collective ones. Additionally, the book highlights the close connection between the writers' sociopolitical activism and their literary output. This book explores Constance Markievicz and Halide Edib Ad¿var as exemplary writers of their generation who, through both their fiction and life writings, advocate for collective action. Despite their fragile inner worlds and tumultuous personal lives, their efforts primarily center on questions of existence and independence, Halide Edib Ad¿var and Constance Markievicz, both embodying an anti-imperial perspective, played a crucial role in revitalizing the cultural memory of their nations while responding to the prevailing imperial authority through radical societal changes and an elevation of women's status. Drawing inspiration from their cultural backgrounds, they critiqued patriarchal authority and imperial ideologies in their communities.Lang, Peter GmbH, Gontardstraße 11, 10178 Berlin 206 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -This book explores the interplay between the transformative vision of feminist environmental humanities and the critical contribution of feminist speculative fiction to the debate about the climate crisis. It intervenes in the debate a…bout the master narrative of the Anthropocene - and about the one-dimensional perspective that often characterises its literary representations - from a feminist perspective that also aims at decolonising the imagination. K. Jemisin, and drawing comparison with authors such as Cherie Dimaline, Vandana Singh, and Jesmyn Ward.Lang, Peter GmbH, Gontardstraße 11, 10178 Berlin 246 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -'In this excellent, readable and important study,¿Curran reveals a rich vein of migrants who went to ply their trade as soccer players in the USA. This textured study illustrates the human side of the story enlivened by rich interviews… of both female and male players. It is a must for students of the diaspora and sports studies. A major contribution'.(Professor Donald MacRaild, London Metropolitan University).'This is a fascinating and timely contribution to debates on sport and migration. Curran uses an impressive array of methods from archives to in-depth interviews to tell the story of young Irish athletes who move to the United States to take up scholarship opportunities to further their education and play football'.(Professor Chris Bolsmann, California State University Northridge). The book explores Irish male and female soccer players' experiences of US soccer scholarships in the twentieth century. It assesses how valuable these scholarships were in terms of playing, education and post-university careers. This study therefore focuses on how these players were recruited, their playing and educational experiences of the soccer scholarships, and the extent to which their scholarships facilitated their employment in professional football and in work related to their degrees after leaving university. Using oral testimony as well as archival evidence, the book adds new perspectives on the history of sports migration, to studies of the Irish diaspora, to research on the history of education and to women's history. It also contributes to the fields of sports history, migration and education. In doing so, it examines an aspect of the history of Irish-American relations which has not previously been assessed.Lang, Peter GmbH, Gontardstraße 11, 10178 Berlin 326 pp. Englisch.

While her pioneering use of Free Indirect Discourse to present interiority and create irony has long been acknowledged, the range of effects generated by her use of Free Indir…ect Speech has remained unrecognised. This book provides an accessible introduction to both stylistic approaches and charts the historical emergence of the latter technique in a range of eighteenth-century genres, taking into account changing typographical conventions for presenting speech. The author uses close textual analysis to demonstrate the remarkably diverse ways in which Free Indirect Speech enriched Jane Austen's fiction. The narrator's 'mimicry' of the verbal tics of her characters is just the starting point. Sections on effects such as Formal Politeness and Condensed Conversation offer an expanded conceptual vocabulary for analysing the nuanced variety of speech presentation in her novels. The culmination of the study is a detailed examination of Emma as a case study for investigating the use of Free Indirect Speech as part of an overall narrative strategy.Lang, Peter GmbH, Gontardstraße 11, 10178 Berlin 346 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -This monograph demonstrates that the Epistle to the Hebrews and the Book of Revelation are results of highly creative, hypertextual reworking of the Acts of the Apostles. In both cases, this detailed reworking consists of around 700 strictly…sequentially organized conceptual and often also linguistic correspondences to Acts. The strictly sequential, hypertextual dependence on Acts explains numerous surprising features of both Hebrews and Revelation. Critical explanations of such features, which are offered in this monograph, ensure the reliability of the new solution to the problem of the identities of Hebrews and Revelation, as well as their relationships to the Lucan, post-Pauline school of literary-theological production.Lang, Peter GmbH, Gontardstraße 11, 10178 Berlin 216 pp. Englisch.
