Als Freimaurer hielt er an Sozial- und Menschenrechten fest, zog sich aber im Alter als Privatier zurück.

These migrants were imported as indentured workers for the developing wine industry, being sponsored by the Australian colonial authorities, and their stories make a significant contribution to both the migration debate as well as early Australian history. Using the voices of ordinary people revealed in their writing to and from Europe (the Frauenstein Letters) gives new insights into the migration process: What urged these people to migrate What did they think about migration and how were they affected by it Much of this migration correspondence has been generated by the female members of the family and, as treasured possessions, the letters have survived a century and a half and provide a window onto the experiences of ordinary working women whose voices from that period were seldom heard. The female construct of memory, and hence of history, is different and this book shows how important female migrant letters are in enhancing our knowledge of history and human migration. 280 pp. Englisch.

In both regions, immigrants from religious minorities found their place and yet often stayed connected through…historical and/or religious ties to the other region. Several large Christian communities remained in the Middle East after the Islamization of the region. More recently, immigration from Mediterranean countries has brought Islam back into Europe. Muslim communities with diverging regional and ideological backgrounds are increasingly becoming part of the European landscape. The influence of globalization has given way to a shift in the position of minorities in their relationship to the majority culture, in which religion is played out as a key element. We are also currently witnessing a reinterpretation of the minority issue in itself and a repositioning of minority communities within the dominant strand of society. The interaction between global and local contexts has created new dynamics in the minority issue and therefore requires renewed academic analysis. The first section covers a mechanism that explains the sale of first loss positions to investors. The theoretical model is based on a… repeated game and focuses on the role of issuer reputation. The second section empirically analyzes combination notes. These are a particular type of security issued in CDOs, consisting of parts of different tranches of one CDO transaction. The findings show that combination notes are used as an equity transfer vehicle and that their tranching caters to segmented demand. The third section finally analyzes the tranching of CDOs.
