ALL TEXT IN LATIN. Title page edition statement translates as "second American edition, most of the London errors, most carefully observed, are corrected." [title], [i-iv], v-xvi, 17-260 pages. Hardcover: H 21.25cm x L 13.75cm. Contemporary full leather rubbed/scuffed and several stains; board edges worn particularly at corners; spine ends scuffed; spine's brown title label retains bright lettering. Slight evidence of removal of ffep; front flyleaf recto, title page, page [iii], rear flyleaf, and rear free endpaper recto have multiple ownership inscriptions/signatures in antiquarian ink of Henry M. Robertson, George Robertson, John M. Robertson, and Vans Murray Robertson; antiquarian ink and pencil markings/notes amongst text; toning/foxing throughout with some stains. Binding is firm. ***** Acquired from a modest collection of eighteenth and early nineteenth century academic, legal, medical, and scientific works from a Columbus, Mississippi estate which had familial roots to the Maryland Eastern Shore and the hamlet of Cambridge in Dorchester County with descent from Maryland U.S. Representative and ambassador William Vans Murray (1760-1803) and/or his nephew William Vans Murray Robertson (1797 or 1799-1836). Cursory online research turns up a Cambridge-born Reverend John Murray Robertson (1804-1878) who resided in Huntsville, Alabama circa 1850 and presumably the books migrated to Columbus via another family descendant.
