Hardcover. Condizione: As new. Facsimilie reprint of the 1875 edition. One of 1000 copies. Twelvemo. Hardcover. Bound in green cloth with gilt titles and design. vii, 216 pages, 13 leaves of plates (some folded) : illustrations (some color), map ; 20 cm. An exact reprint of one of the rarest of firearms books. Authored by the co…ach of the Irish Rifle team, champions of the world in 1874, who challenged the American team to an International Rifle Match. Held at the Creedmoor range on Long Island, the match captured the nation's attention. After the match (won by the American team by the margin of a single point) the Irish team was dined and honored across America for weeks. Tradition says that only a thousand copies were printed of the original book in 1875. It is today one of the very hardest books to locate on the collector's market. Our reprint of the classic work is virtually an exact copy of the original, including the copying of Major Leech's personalized autograph to one of the Irish shooters who accompanied the team to American. Our press run has likewise been limited to 1000 copies.

Trade paperback. Condizione: Good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. xx, [2], 612, [2] pages. Oversized book, measuring 11 inches by 8-1/2 inches. Very slightly cocked. Includes dedication, Introduction, A Personal Introduction and Welcome, How to use this book, and Acknowledgments. Includes chapters For Beginners--Mostly;… For Everybody--The Details; and Training for Highpower Competition. Also includes Bibliography, Appendix--Important and Useful Addresses; and Index. Popular Precision Shooting columnist Randolph Constantine (literally a retired PH.D. Rocket Scientist) spent two full years in the preparation of his major work on highpower rifle competition. It has over 600 full-size (8 1/2 x 11) pages and over 100 illustrating photos and is remarkably reader-friendly in its approach to an occasionally daunting subject. This book was written primarily for the beginning and intermediate highpower rifle shooter. With very few exceptions, all of the photographs in this book were taken by the author or his wife, Penny T. Constantine. The author was Precision Shooting magazine's senior columnist and a master class shooter. He supported NASA as a contractor at the Johnson Space Center working in support of the Space Shuttle Program. One might posit that helping achieve pinpoint accuracy in targeting the International Space Station from earth with the Shuttle-size bullet was good preparation for hitting smaller targets on earth with smaller (than the Space Shuttle) caliber projectile. High Power Rifle, also called XTC from "Across the Course",[citation needed] is a shooting sport using fullbore target rifles which is arranged in the United States by the National Rifle Association of America. The sport is divided into classes by equipment, and popular types of matches include Service Rifle (a service firearm competition), Open, Axis and Allies and metallic silhouette.[citation needed] The term High Power Rifle sometimes also includes the international shooting disciplines of Palma and F-Class by the International Confederation of Fullbore Rifle Associations (ICFRA) which are represented by the NRA in the United States. The standard course of fire for a service rifle match has four (4) individual stages that comprise an aggregate match: Stage 1: Slow fire (10 shots in 10 minutes), standing at 200 yards Stage 2: Rapid fire (10 shots in 60 seconds with reload), sitting or kneeling, at 200 yards Stage 3: Rapid fire (10 shots in 70 seconds with reload), prone, at 300 yards Stage 4: Slow fire (20 shots in 20 minutes), prone, at 600 yards Scoring combines from a total aggregate of 50 shots worth 500 points. In addition to points, "X" counts are also used to rank shooters in a match. In the center of each target (within the ten ring) is an "X" ring. If a competitor shoots within this ring they receive the ten points for shooting a ten, but also receive an additional "X" which serves as a tie breaker, if needed. For example, if one competitor ends a match with 487-14X (meaning 487 points with 14 X's) and another shooter ends with 487-20X, then the one that shot 20 X's will finish ahead of the one which only shot 14 X's. Traditional High Power Rifle shooting is most commonly done using a rifle with a military web or leather sling attached, with the shooter using a shooting mat, wearing a shooting jacket, and using a specialized glove that is worn on the support hand. The shooting is done at fixed, specific distances from the target line. Both loop slings, affixed at only the front end of the rifle stock, as well as hasty-slings, affixed at both the front and rear of the rifle stock, are also often used. Some High Power Rifle matches are shot only at 200 yards, such as sometimes seen during specific M1 Garand matches, and Axis and Allies matches, although they are still shot from various positions (standing, sitting/kneeling, prone). Penny T. Constantine (Photographer) (illustratore).

Aggiungi al carrelloTrade paperback. Condizione: Very good. Second printing [stated]. x, 142 pages. Includes 73 black and white illustrations. Minor spine weakness near title page, restrengthen with a small amount of glue. Includes Introduction; Low Cost Accurizing Tips for the M1, Part 1 through Part 10; Understanding the M1, M1A Sights; Of M1 Bar…rels and Violins; DCM Clinic; Mysterious Flyers from the M1 and M1A; More Thoughts on Slam Fires; Fine Tuning M1, M1A Match Sights; Slams and Jams with the M1 Garand; Update for the M1 Garand; The Iron sight sniper; and The M1 and the Resurfacing NAMBU. Many of the articles previously appears in either Precision Shooting or Tactical Shooter magazines. Cover is a photograph of Joseph Jacob Foss (Joe Foss), fighter Ace and Medal of Honor awardee. Ten consecutive chapters on the topic of "low cost accurizing tips for the M1", followed by ten additional chapters dealing with America's great battle rifle. The author has been a regular competitor at The Camp Perry (Ohio) National Matches for many years as well as a columnist writer for Precision Shooting magazine. Precision describes the spread of individual shots about the center point of a shot group. A precise shooting system will, over many shots to and from the same points, produce a tight shot group with smaller distances between individual shots than a less precise system. However in contrast to accuracy, precision can't be "adjusted" into a shooting system by dialing some knob on the weapon. The M1 Garand is a .30-06 caliber semi-automatic rifle that was the standard U.S. service rifle during World War II and the Korean War and also saw limited service during the Vietnam War. Most M1 rifles were issued to U.S. forces, though many hundreds of thousands were also provided as foreign aid to American allies. The Garand is still used by drill teams and military honor guards. It is also widely used by civilians for hunting, target shooting, and as a military collectible. The M1 rifle was named after its Canadian-American designer, John Garand. It was the first standard-issue semi-automatic military rifle. By most accounts, the M1 rifle performed well. General George S. Patton called it "the greatest battle implement ever devised". The M1 replaced the bolt-action M1903 Springfield as the standard U.S. service rifle in 1936, and was itself replaced by the selective fire M14 rifle on March 26, 1958. Frequently referred to as the "Garand" or "M1 Garand" by civilians, its official designation when it was the issue rifle in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps was "U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1" or just "M1" and Garand was not mentioned.
