"Over One Hundred Thousand sold in England, and nearly One Hundred Thousand sold already in America by The American Humane Education Society." Also included "A Treatise on the Horse and His Diseases" by Dr. B.J. Kendall & Co. 1882; Rand, McNally & Co.; Chicago. Softcover with 96 pages. Illustrated. Contents include Index of Diseases, Shoeing, Medicines Used for the Horse; Miscellaneous Receipts; Breeding; The Age of the Horse; To Horse Owners; Letters from Our Patrons. There are illustrated advertisements at the back. Condition: BLACK BEAUTY - chipping and paper loss at the front of the book starting at the front cover up to page 34, and at the back of the book from the final dozen or so pages to the back cover. Both covers and all pages are securely attached. The pages are age-toned and a bit brittle; clean pages with only a few random pages found with some light foxing. Overall the book is in Fair condition only. TREATISE ON THE HORSE - There is a 3" diagonal tear at the left edge of the front cover that has been repaired with clear tape on the inside cover. Paper loss at the spine, with a strip of clear tape applied at the top edge. The covers and all pages are securely attached. The pages are mostly clean with only some small, dark foxing spots to the final few pages. Light soiling to the covers. Overall the book is in Fair condition.
