Not a book, but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm "Long Play" (mono) "New Orthophonic High Fidelity" vinyl jazz record album, RCA Victor LPM 1146, silver-print black label with white dog on top, very-good-plus vinyl but with considerable wear and scratches a…round the spindle hole; "very good" jacket is split most of the way back to top edge. The idea here was to have 12 different groups play 12 different arrangements of "Lullaby of Birdland" (all recorded 1954-1955), the most notable of these being Shorty Rogers featuring Andre Previn; Quincy Jones; Charlie Barnet, and Tony Scott. The version of Milt Barnhart and Orchestra was arranged by trumpet player Pete Candoli, who also plays, as does a euphonium player listed here as "Maynard Feruson" (no "g.") Interestingly enough, "Maynard Feruson" (again, no "g") also appears playing trumpet on the version arranged by Billy May for Charlie Barnet and Orchestra. Shorty Rogers' version features Andre Previn on piano, Bud Shank flute, Jimmy Guiffre baritone sax, Joe Mondragon bass, and Shelly Manne on drums. A number of players show up on several of these cuts, including Al Cohn (five times), Jimmy Nottingham (four times), Jack Zoot (three times), Nat Pierce, Milt Hinton, and Billy Byers. This 196…4 re-release catalogs $40, in printed catalogs which are now obviously out-of-date, most of Elvis' first generation of fans now having entered their ninth decade, if they're still around at all. (We are listing several variants of this record; please note our inventory number and study descriptions carefully to make sure you order the one you want.) Includes "Don't Be Cruel," "Love Me Tender," "Hound Dog," "All Shook Up," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Jailhouse Rock," "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear," etc. Original blue-and-white inner sleeve advertises 27 Elvis LPs, plus 8-track tapes. Not a book but a 12-inch, vinyl, 33-1/3 rpm "Long Play" (monaural) LP, RCA Victor LPM 1192, white dog at top of label, near-mint vinyl in a very-good or better cardboard jacket. Features "American Patrol," "PEnnsylvania 6-5000," "In the Mood," "Tuxedo Junctio…n," "St. Louis Blues," "Moonlight Serenade," "King Porter Stomp," five others. As these tracks were recorded 1939-1942, the original releases will of course have been on 78 rpm shellac. People in their 40s and 50s grow nostalgic for the music to which they danced when they were in their teens and twenties. But those who danced to this music between 1937 and 1960, if they're still with us at all, are now 75 or older. Which means the stuff is now plentiful in thrift shops and estate sales, rendering the "catalog values" of such vinyl, themselves, exercises in nostalgia. Elvis values are also falling; your Beatles records will likely be next. One of these years someone will make a movie and a follow-up TV show about "the home front" in the early forties, and the jitterbug will again be all the rage . . . for a while. Take heed: By then, most of this vinyl will be gone. Reduced from $21.

It's said thoroughly professional pianist Paul Weston and his vocalist wife Jo Stafford used to leave party guests rolling on the floor with their impression of a cabaret couple with a moderately flawed sense of time and an "uncanny sense of pitch." In the end, the recordings they made as "Jonathan and Darlene Edwards" won them the Grammy they never received for their "straight" endeavors. If you've never heard the Edwards' renditions of "It "Might As Well Be Spring," "It's Magic," "Tip-Toe Thru the Tulips," or "For Me and My Gal," a treat awaits you which you may enjoy almost as much as hearing a classmate run her fingernails down a blackboard. The pair of discs at one price, consolidated into a lot to consolidate shipping charge, now reduced from $14.

The "Popular Collector's Issue" designation indicates the recording quality here is "not representative of RCA Victor's present day (1950s) high quality standards," meaning these tracks are reissues, having been originally recorded between Dec. 2, 1940 ("Jelly, Jelly," credited to band leader Hines & vocalist Eckstine) and March 19, 1942, for initial release on 78 rpm shellac. Also includes Ellington's "I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good," and "Skylark," credited to Johnny Mercer and Hoagy Carmichael. Both Hines and Eckstine were born in Pittsburgh in 1914. Catalogs $120; here reduced from $65.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Not books but a group of three, 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl Sinatra-daughter discs. "Woman," RCA LSP-4774, from 1972, is a radio promo copy with paper timing strip to upper left of jacket front, near-mint vinyl in a very-good-plus jacket sta…rting to show a little ringwear. The dolled-up Miss S. (of 50 years ago) here offers "I Call It Love," a cover of Donna Fargo's "Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A.," etc. Reduced from $25. Our second Nancy offering, "Boots," is another 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl sort-of rock 'n roll record, Reprise RS-6202, this one from 1966, very-good-plus vinyl in a very-good-plus glossy cardboard jacket. The title hit was by Nancy's producer/svengali Lee Hazlewood, of course. The material otherwise pretty well chosen, including Lennon & McCartney's "Day Tripper" and "Run For Your Life"; Jagger-Richard-Oldham's "As Tears Go By," young Mr. Zimmerman's "It Ain't Me Babe." Recording these tracks for her father's label, one wonders if Nancy recalled at the time who said of rock 'n roll in 1957: "It is sung, played and written for the most part by cretinous goons and by means of its almost imbecilic reiterations and sly, lewd -- in plain fact, dirty -- lyrics . . . manages to be the martial music of every sideburned delinquent on the face of the earth. This rancid smelling aphrodisiac I deplore"? Got it, Frank: Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney -- cretinous goons. Reduced from $19. And our THIRD Nancy LP, "Nancy's Greatest Hits / With a little help from her friends," Reprise RS 6409 from 1970, displays near-mint vinyl in a very-good-plus cardboard jacket with some fraying to one corner and the beginnings of some ringwear. Nancy sings the theme song to the movie "You Only Live Twice." (That's not a cover; after asking "Are you sure you don't want Shirley Bassey?" Nancy cut the original -- though it reportedly took quite a few takes.) Nancy sings songs by Lee Hazlewood (including "Sugar Town" and "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'"); Nancy sings several duets with Lee Hazlewood (on "Jackson" as well as on several songs by, um, . . . Lee Hazlewood); Nancy sings a duet on "Something Stupid" with Frank Sinatra (wow, wonder how she got HIM to help out); Nancy sings a duet with Dean Martin on a Bobby Darin song, and the whole thing gets released on Reprise Records, which was established by . . . well, someone Nancy knew very well, in case you ever wondered how people make it in Hollywood. (You'll also need financing; it might help if you could also arrange for your dad to be the godson of Genovese underboss Willie Moretti.) More recently, of course, the "Boots Are Made for Walking" canary emerged from retirement to respond to the October 1, 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas by tweeting "The murderous members of the NRA should face a firing squad" -- somewhat oddly, since the NRA favors enforcement of all current gun laws, none of which appears to have hindered the Las Vegas shooter or shooters -- and since the wealthy Sinatra family has presumably long enjoyed a level of protection thanks to armed guards in "secure" residential communities little known out in Flyover Country. Our third disc now reduced from $22; Hair and nose not credited. Package of three Sinatra-Daughter LPs now reduced from $66. Disc is near mint; jacket approaches near-mint but with some discolored patches to reverse. Found in Las Vegas.
