Excerpt: The digits of some specific integers permute or shift cyclically when they are multiplied by a number n. Examples are: These specific integers, known as transposable integers, can be but are not always cyclic numbers. The characterization of such numbers can be done using repeating decimals (and thus the related fractions), or directly. For any integer coprime to 10, its reciprocal is a repeating decimal without any non-recurring digits. E.g. = 0.006993. While the expression of a single series with vinculum on top is adequate, the intention of the above expression is to show that the six cyclic permutations of 006993 can be obtained from this repeating decimal if we select six consecutive digits from the repeating decimal starting from different digits. This illustrates that cyclic permutations are somehow related to repeating decimals and the corresponding fractions. The greatest common divisor (gcd) between any cyclic permutation of an m-digit integer and 10 - 1 is constant. Expressed as a formula, where N is an m-digit integer; and Nc is any cyclic permutation of N. For example, gcd(091575, 999999) = gcd(3×5×11×37, 3×7×11×13×37) = 3663 = gcd(915750, 999999) = gcd(157509, 999999) = gcd(575091, 999999) = gcd(750915, 999999) = gcd(509157, 999999)If N is an m-digit integer, the number Nc, obtained by shifting N to the left cyclically, can be obtained from: where d is the first digit of N and m is the number of digits. This explains the above common gcd and the phenomenon is true in any base if 10 is replaced by b, the base. The cyclic permutations are thus related to repeating decimals, the corresponding fractions, and divisors of 10-1. For examples the related fractions to the above cyclic permutations are thus: Reduced to their lowest terms using the common gcd, they are: That is, these fractions when expressed in lowest terms, have the same denominator. This is true for cyclic permutations of any integer. An integral multiplier refers to the multiplier n being aBooks on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 26 pp. Englisch.

Excerpt: Gone with the Wind, first published in May 1936, is a romantic novel written by Margaret Mitchell that won the Pulitzer Prize in 1937. The story is set in Clayton County, Georgia and Atlanta during the American Civil War and Reconstruction and depicts the experiences of Scarlett O'Hara, the spoiled daughter of a well-to-do plantation owner who must use every means at her disposal to come out of the poverty in which she finds herself after Sherman's march to the sea. The novel is the source of the extremely popular 1939 film of the same name. The title is taken from the first line of the third stanza of the poem Non Sum Qualis eram Bonae Sub Regno Cynarae by Ernest Dowson: 'I have forgot much, Cynara! gone with the wind.' The novel's protagonist, Scarlett O'Hara, also uses the title phrase in a line in the book: when her home area is overtaken by the Yankees, she wonders to herself if her home on a plantation called 'Tara,' is still standing, or if it was 'also gone with the wind which had swept through Georgia.' More generally, the title refers to the entire way of life of the antebellum South as having 'gone with the wind.' The title for the novel was a problem for Mitchell. She initially titled the book 'Pansy,' the original name for Scarlett O'Hara. Although never seriously considered, the title 'Pansy' was dropped once Macmillan persuaded Mitchell to rename the main character. Other proposed titles included 'Tote the Weary Load', 'Baa! Baa! Black Sheep', 'Bugles Sing True', 'Not in Our Stars', and 'Tomorrow is Another Day,' the latter taken from the last line in the book; the publisher noted that there were several books close to the same title at the time, so Mitchell was asked to find another title. She chose Gone with the Wind. Margaret Mit.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 72 pp. Englisch.

Excerpt: The Eglinton Tournament Bridge is a bridge located within Eglinton Country Park near Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, Scotland. The bridge crosses the Lugton Water a short distance northwest of Eglinton Castle (grid reference ) and was named after the Eglinton Tournament of 1839. The castle and surrounding grounds were once home to the Montgomerie family, Earls of Eglinton and chiefs of the Clan Montgomery. The surviving 'Tournament Bridge' was built to provide an appropriate crossing point to gain access to the far side of the Lugton Water and the Eglinton Kennels, circa 1845. Archibald Montgomerie, the 13th Earl of Eglinton had the bridge built in a Gothic style, using cast iron for the arches, pinnacles, etc. and stone for the two pairs of miniature ornamental towers at either end. These towers have subtle design differences (See photographs) which are significant in the context of the extended history of the bridge. This 'Tournament' bridge is said to have been designed by the architect David Hamilton; agreement to build the original three arched bridge was reached on 16 October 1799 by the 12th Earl of Eglinton and Hamilton's first recorded work dates from 1807. An Adam Russell is recorded as being partner to the agreement. The first bridge is described by Aiton in 1811 as A bridge of three arches, the piers of stone, and the arches of cast-iron, of the most elegant device, imitating the gothic style of the castle, with the family arms in the centre, now building about 100 yards below the castle, where the river is 102 feet broad . The bridge's cast iron parapet is a repetition of the pointed Gothic arch design of the castle, surmounted by a battlement, and relieved in the centre with foliated pinnacles. The Tournament Bridge is B listed by Historic Scotland. The original Tournament Bridge and the procession in 1839. FuBooks on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 102 pp. Deutsch.

Excerpt: Héctor Julio Páride Bernabó or Carybé (Lanús, 7 February 1911 - Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, 2 October 1997) was a painter, engraver, draughtsman, illustrator, potter, sculptor, mural painter, researcher, historian and journalist. He settled in Brazil and naturalized as a Brazilian. While living in Rio de Janeiro, he was a scout. There, scouts were nicknamed after types of fish, and he was given the nickname of Carybé (a kind of piranha). So the artist used it as an alias for his Christian name, which was very similar to his brother¿s name, who was also an artist. He produced five thousand pieces of work, including paintings, drawings, sculptures and sketches. He illustrated books by Jorge Amado as well as Gabriel Gárcia Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. He was an Obá de Xangô, an honorary position in candomblé. He died of heart failure during a session in a candomblé yard. Some of Carybé¿s work can be found in the Afro-Brazilian Museum of Salvador: 27 panels representing the orixás. of the Bahian candomblé. Each board shows an orixá with his weapons and his animal of worship. They were painted on Cedar wood, with engravings and scaling of various kinds of material. The work was commissioned by the former Banco da Bahia S.A., now Banco BBM S.A., which installed them in its branch on Avenida Sete de Setembro in 1968. Carybé produced more than 5,000 works; his art was expressed through paintings, engravings, illustrations, wood carvings, mosaics and murals. American Airlines, Odebrecht and the Miami-Dade Aviation Department have partnered to bring a Latin American art treasure to Miami International Airport. The partnership will result in one of the most important contributions to Miami-Dade County, bringing the art of Brazilian artist Carybé to the Gateway of the Americas. Steve Brookes StudiosThe Carybé murals, two of the most iconic public art pieces in the U.S. aviation sector, had been on display in the American Airlines¿ terminal at JFK Airport in New York siBooks on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 46 pp. Englisch.

Auszug: Helga Deen (Stettin, Germany, 6 April 1925 ¿ Sobibor, 16 July 1943) was the author of a diary, discovered in 2004, which describes her stay in a Dutch prison camp, Kamp Vught, where she was brought during World War II at the age of 18. Deen was half-Dutch. Initially her father lived with his German GP wife in Germany, but moved back to the Netherlands as persecution increased. Her mother worked for a time as a doctor at a concentration camp at Vught. She was given leave to remain but chose to accompany her family to Sobibor, where she died. After her last diary entry, in early July 1943, Helga Deen was deported to Sobibór extermination camp and murdered. She was 18 years old. Deen wrote the diary for her boyfriend, Kees van den Berg, who kept it hidden after the war. After his death his son presented the diary to archivists in Tilburg. A memorial stone to Helga and her family has been placed by a member of the Dutch Sobibor Foundation on the pathway which used to lead to the gas chambers ('road to heaven'). A photo of the stone will soon be available on the Foundation's website.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 162 pp. Deutsch.

Excerpt: Air safety is a term encompassing the theory, investigation and categorization of flight failures, and the prevention of such failures through regulation, education and training. It can also be applied in the context of campaigns that inform the public as to the safety of air travel. During the 1920s, the first laws were passed in the USA to regulate civil aviation. Of particular significance was the Air Commerce Act 1926, which required pilots and aircraft to be examined and licensed, for accidents to be properly investigated, and for the establishment of safety rules and navigation aids, under the Aeronautics Branch of the Department of Commerce. Despite this, in 1926 and 1927 there were a total of 24 fatal commercial airline crashes, a further 16 in 1928, and 51 in 1929 (killing 61 people), which remains the worst year on record at an accident rate of about 1 for every 1,000,000 miles (1,600,000 km) flown. Based on the current numbers flying, this would equate to 7,000 fatal incidents per year. The fatal incident rate has declined steadily ever since, and, since 1997 the number of fatal air accidents has been no more than 1 for every 2,000,000,000 person-miles flown (e.g., 100 people flying a plane for 1,00.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 116 pp. Englisch.

Excerpt: Eskrima, Arnis and Kali refer to a class of Filipino martial arts that emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticks, blades and improvised weapons. Although training starts with weapons, empty hand techniques, trapping and limb destruction are core parts of these arts as the weapon is considered merely an extension of the body. Eskrima and Arnis are the most common among the many names often used in the Philippines today to refer to these arts. The teaching of the basic skills in Eskrima are traditionally simplified. With limited time to teach intricate moves, only techniques that were proven effective in battle and could easily be taught en masse were used. This allowed villagers, generally not professional soldiers, a measure of protection against other villages, as well as foreign invaders. This philosophy of simplicity is still used today and is the underlying base of eskrima. Because of this approach, eskrima and the Filipino martial arts in general are often mistakenly considered to be 'simple'. However, this refers only to its systematization, not effectiveness. To the contrary, beyond the basic skills lies a very complex structure and a refined skillset that takes years to master. For the purpose of simplification, Eskrima shall be used to refer to the interchangeable terms of Arnis and Kali for the rest of the article. For all intents and purposes, Eskrima, arnis and kali all refer to the same family of Filipino weapon-based martial arts. In Luzon they may go by the name of arnis, arnis de mano, sinawali, pagkalikali, panandata (usage of weapons), didya, kabaroan (blade usage) and kaliradman. In the Visayas and Mindanao, these martial arts have been referred to as eskrima, kali and kalirongan. Kuntaw and silat are separate martial arts that have been practiced in the islands. Eskrima is a Filipinization of the Spanish word for fencing (esgrima). Arnis comes from arnes, Old Spanish for armor (harness is an archaic English term for armor which comes from the s 32 pp. Englisch.
