Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. Presents an assessment of the redevelopment and regeneration of Leeds. This book identifies the drivers for change in the renaissance of contemporary Leeds following its evolution from Georgian/Victorian times. It explores the depth and complexity of the public-private partnerships involved in the delivery structures and their achievements. If Leeds was good in Arthur Ransome's day, it is hard to find an adjective that describes its fizz and chutzpah at the beginning of the 21st century. The city has been so successful in the last 30 years that its rivals have had to fall back on the insult 'smug', a jibe which, by definition, has little effect on its target. There is a deep-rooted sense of satisfaction, every bit as cosy as Ransome's, in the unofficial capital of Yorkshire. It shows mostly in the attitude of its people but also finds expression in the architecture, and especially in the strong sense of place in the city centre. "Leeds: Shaping the City" is an authoritative and objective assessment of the redevelopment and regeneration of Leeds. It identifies the drivers for change in the renaissance of contemporary Leeds following its evolution from Georgian/Victorian times; explores the depth and complexity of the public-private partnerships involved in the delivery structures and their achievements; articulates the importance of urban design for successful regeneration; uses case studies to illustrate the processes involved in the major physical change of the city and to assess their influence on future projects; and, provides a chronology of critical regeneration activities and key events over the last 20 years. Leeds has done exceptionally well in transforming itself from a grimy 'factoryopolis'.There are challenges ahead but the physical expression of Leeds' success - seen everywhere from clubs and cool restaurants to lofts above the inland port, where canal and river entwine - keep stimulating the imagination of new generations of entrepreneurs. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. In this age of eco-bling where sustainability becomes yet another ill-defined buzz word and people rush to fix their unsuspecting buildings, with green technology badges such as wind turbines, not all such additions are as green as they first appear. This book highlights more realistic and cost effective approaches to going 'green' by showcasing 'eco-minimalism' - a good-housekeeping approach to ecological building design and specification, concentrating on less glaringly obvious strategies such as insulation, draught-proofing and the use of healthy materials. This book exposes the pitfalls of 'greenwashing' in an immediate, visually-arresting and authoritative way. The intention is to present basic tenets in a quickfire, highly accessible format not just for architects, other construction professionals and related students but everyone who cares about the sustainability of our built environment. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. This Approved Document supports compliance with Part T of Schedule 1 to the Building Regulations 2010 by providing guidance on the design and layout of universal toilets, ambulant toilets and toilet cubicles. Section 1: deals with the application and performance of requirement T1 of Schedule 1 to the Building Regulations. Section 2: describes common design provisions, and Sections 3 to 6 describe design provisions for the specific types of toilet accommodation introduced by requirement T1. Guidance is given for common provisions and then for each type of toilet accommodation separately. The objective of this requirement is to require toilet accommodation in non-residential buildings to be separate single-sex toilets, with single-sex shared or individual hand-washing facilities. Universal toilets can be provided in addition to single-sex provision and where space allows. Where there is not sufficient space to provide single-sex toilet facilities, fully enclosed universal toilets should be provided. In the Secretary of States view, requirement T1 is met by ensuring all of the following. Separate single-sex toilet facilities are provided. Universal toilets can be provided in addition to single-sex provision and where space allows. All toilet accommodation should have clear and appropriate signage. Where space precludes single-sex toilet facilities from being provided, fully enclosed universal toilets should be provided. Available space for toilet accommodation will vary from building to building; once reasonable provision is made for single-sex toilet facilities, any remaining space for toilet accommodation can be considered for universal toilet provision. The guidance in this Approved Document only relates to England. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. More than 400 years after his death, Andrea Palladio (150880) remains one of the most influential architects of all time. This catalogue explores how the design principles of Palladio have been interpreted, copied and re-imagined across time and continents in very different ways since his death, and how they continue to inspire architects today. It includes previously unexplored works that put Palladio in a new social context and brings out unexpected stories about the impact of his legacy on functionality and style. It also questions how a style and an approach to architecture that Palladio intended to be democratic is now associated with wealth.Palladian Design: the Good, the Bad and the Unexpected provides classic catalogue entries which will expand on individual objects as well as bring new opinions and critical thinking to the subject matter through commissioned essays from a range of disciplines and perspectives. It combines the historical with the modern and contemporary, connecting the Palladio collection with contemporary practice and current research outside and within RIBA. It is thought-provoking and will stimulate debate amongst a specialist audience and capture the imagination of a non-specialist audience, providing them with new insight into Palladian design principle across time and place. The catalogue includes the following essays: Palladio, Palladianism, Palladians by Guido Beltramini Palladianism: A Project of Radical Discontinuity by Pier Vittorio Aureli Cyma Recta: Palladianism and the Everyday by Daniel MaudlinThe catalogue accompanies the exhibition on Palladian Design that is on display in the Architecture Gallery at RIBA (from 9 September 2015 to 9 January 2016).
