Over the years the educationists and psychologists have developed various methods of learning on the basis of research and experience. Generally it was believed that the learner learns mostly from trial and error. However the Gestalt School of Psychologists have come to the view that the over all impression of a place event or man is what affects the learner more deeply. Jean Piaget has however taken a developmental view of psychology of teaching. The teacher has to understand the child as well as the subjects he is going to teach. It is a pleasure to present this book to the discerning readers of English Literature as it constitutes mainly the critical responses of Indian academicians and scholars to the British novelists and poets and their texts. The eighteen essays included in it are well researched comprehensive and insightful. Since the texts studied here are classics in literature they are amenable to multiple interpretations. Every age discovers a new meaning a new dimension in the classics. It is all the more interesting and objective to view the authors and the texts with a distance of time and space. The distance provides the authors an opportunity to reevaluate the text in a changed perspective of time and to see the difference of result. The criticism thus becomes more objective and relevant to the time. In a way it points to the need of reevaluation of the classical works in the present context. The volume covers a broad spectrum of English literature from the origin and development of the short story and evaluation of Plato's Republic to Graham Greene George Orwell Aldous Huxley Conrad E.M. Forster Virginia Woolf T.S. Eliot. Papers on myth Browning's poetry Richard Steele Jane Austen Rudyard Kipling D.H. Lawrence D. Lawrence are no less insightful and scholarly. The Students of English literature will find the book extremely useful and the common readers will also find it refreshingly interesting. 207 pp.…

Hardbound. Condizione: As New. New. Contents Preface. 1. Introduction Tennysonian Echoes in Eliot. 2. Treatment of myths and legends in Tennyson and T.S. Eliot. 3. Treatment of history in Tennyson and T.S. Eliot. 4. Tennyson's and Eliot's versions of the waste land. 5. Conclusion. Select bibliography. In this book an attempt has been made to establish the affinities between T.S. Eliot and his predecessor Tennyson. Instead of limiting Eliot to the aesthetics of high modernism it is important to lay more emphasis than is given at present to his Victorian inheritance in order to demonstrate the multifarious dimensions of his genius. It also bears out Eliot's position on the creative use of tradition. To substantiate the claim that Eliot always remained aware of Tennyson's work his changing response to Tennyson from initial indifference to later respect is first traced through citations from Eliot's own criticism. A detailed comparative study has been taken of the poets. This book will be of immense value to the students and research scholars interested in Tennyson and T.S. Eliot. 221 pp.…

The epilogue. References. Author index. Subject index. In this book human cognition regarding different natural resources is explored through application of different techniques of folk taxonomy and ethnoecology. Relationship of the Kol and the Santar inhabitants of selected villages in East Singbhum Jharkhand with their environment is deciphered. The depth of perception is here considered as the parameter of clear cognition and utility is found to be the foundation of this cognition but differential perception of two different community members raises the question which stratum is stronger utility or cognition through cultural prescription. This fact is established in this book through application of specific statistical method. Logic and wisdom of the Kol and the Santar informants are given topmost priority. In every aspect of the study effort is given to search ethnic solution of different problems. These solutions come through prolonged experimentation and the folk accepts that solution which gives the optimum result. The process of experimentation through trial and error is highly scientific and thoroughly based on folk logic and wisdom. In this regard this study can undoubtedly be designated as a study on ethnoscience. Ethnoscientific knowledge of the Kol and the Santar is also tested through their cognition of colour and food. Identification of a specific shade is highly dependent on its similarity with a natural object. This is an indicative of folk exposure to the nature. On the contrary availability loses its importance in front of cultural prescription at least so far as folk choice of food is concerned. This is an indicative of folk dependence on culture. 184 pp.…

Disaster training. 7. National vs regional disaster preparedness plan. 8. Disaster management policy. 9. Disaster management strategy in India. Bibliography. Disaster is defined as a crisis situation causing widespread damage which fare exceeds our ability to recover. Thus by definition there cannot be a perfect ideal system that prevents damage because then it would not be a disaster. It has to suffocate our ability to recover. Only then it can be called as disaster. Disasters are not totally discrete events. Their possibility of occurrence time place and severity of the strike can be reasonably and in some cases accurately predicted by technological and scientific advances. It has been established there is a definite pattern in their occurrences and hence we can to some extent reduce the impact of damage though we cannot reduce the extent of damage itself. This demands the study of disaster management in methodical and orderly approach. This book deals with all these aspects. 182 pp. …
