Publisher's Weekly: "In this entertaining novel, Heath delivers a fascinating and well-crafted tale that takes the mystery of the noir genre and injects it into Kentucky circa the sweltering summer of 1972. Roser Caminals is a celebrated Catalan author, her most popullar book has been translated into English as The Street of the Three Beds as has her first novel, Once Remembered, Twice Lived, and her translation of the Spanish classic by Emilia Pardo Bazan, The House of Ulloa. Since 1981 Caminals has lived in Frederick, Marryland, as a Professor of Foreign Languages at Hood College. The American Secution is her translation of her memoir first published to high praise in Barcelona. It recounts her life in the United States and her many travels across the country. The book captures both the "seduction " of Middle America and the numerous thing her foreign eye spots as distinctive. She sees both what to admire and so criticize, and she does so eloquently. Perhaps most impressive iss the way the author uses her novelist's skills to depict a series of memorable people she meets, with a pitch-perfect ear for their voices and an acute ability to depict their characters. No one who reads this book will forget the places she visits or the people she meets or the fluencey of her polished prose. Signed by Author(s).…

Paperback. Condizione: As New. No Jacket. First Edition. Paperback edition in as new condition. Binding straight, pages clean and unmarked. Signed by author on title page. In late August of 1972, when the prize stallion Devil Dancer is shot, Wendell Clay, a war veteran recently turned detective, volunteers to solve the case. His investigation becomes a three-day ordeal that teaches him more than he ever wanted to know about the dark places of the heart. Distinguished by its precise evocation of the Kentucky Bluegrass region, the novel deftly dramatizes a grim yet compassionate view of existence. While contempoary in its sensibility, Devil Dancer draws upon some of the oldest literary traditions of all: people swapping stories to sustain each other and a mortal man's confrontation with the mystery of life. "William Heath pits his Chandleresque shamus against the America of Manson and Vietnam, and the only winner is the reader," Stewart O'Nan. "What Raymond Chandler does for California, Heath does for Kentucky," Toby Olson. "Mingling wry humor and tough guy dialogue that Elmore Leonard would be proud of, Devil Dancer is brimming over with haunting characters who are never exactly who they first appear. This is a first-rate novel of suspense that also accomplishes all the things we expect from our best works of literature, James W. Hall. "Devil Dancer is an edgy un-put-downable novel. Heath is both original and elegant; he is, in fact, an engagingly entertainging writer. Devil Dancer reminds us all that love and life can be fragile and dangerous, and this comes vibrantly alive because of the author's sleek and graceful style. This is eloquent writing and compelling story telling by someone who knows his craft," Bob Leuci. Multiple copies available. Signed by Author(s). …
