This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The psychological states of patients with diabetes mellitus were compared with those of patients suffering from other chronic diseases and people with no diagnosed chronic diseases. These states were assessed by applying content an…alysis scales to transcripts of their descriptions of their current experiences. Analyses of the diabetics' scale scores re vealed a pattern characterized by much anxiety, depression, anger expressed both direct ly and indirectly, together with feelings of helplessness. The sources of anxiety which proved to be of most importance to them were fears of death and bodily mutilation, as weIl as guilt and shame. They experienced little sense of sharing with most people around them, although they showed considerable enjoyment of dose relationships with family and friends. This pattern of psychological states did not vary with the sex of the patients or whether they were interviewed in a hospital or at horne nor with recency of onset or multiplicity of health problems. It was similar to the pattern of patients with other chronic diseases but differed significantly from that of the healthy group. This must have many consequences to my thoughts on experiments with microelectrodes. In this book, my concern is fo cussing on the description of an intracellular method that should lead to reliable in formation on cellular parameters. The methodical basis for any meaningful applica tion is treated extensively. However, technical perfection and accurate results are not the only concern when working on animals and human beings. Rather, my thoughts are governed by the intellectual and moral mastery of the experimental ap proach on living subjects. A measurement with microelectrodes usually necessitates the sacrifice of an ani mal. Neuware -The psychological states of patients with diabetes mellitus were compared with those of patients suffering from other chronic diseases and people with no diagnosed chronic diseases. These states were assessed by applying content analys…is scales to transcripts of their descriptions of their current experiences. Analyses of the diabetics' scale scores re vealed a pattern characterized by much anxiety, depression, anger expressed both direct ly and indirectly, together with feelings of helplessness. The sources of anxiety which proved to be of most importance to them were fears of death and bodily mutilation, as weIl as guilt and shame. They experienced little sense of sharing with most people around them, although they showed considerable enjoyment of dose relationships with family and friends. This pattern of psychological states did not vary with the sex of the patients or whether they were interviewed in a hospital or at horne nor with recency of onset or multiplicity of health problems. It was similar to the pattern of patients with other chronic diseases but differed significantly from that of the healthy group. Zum einen steigt der Anteil der Risikopatienten stiindig an, die Gefahrdung des Patienten durch Vorerkrankun gen im Sinne einer M ultimorbiditiit nimmt damit zu. Zum ande ren steigt aber auch, vor allem ohne Berucksichtigung der perso nellen und materiellen Ausstattung, die rechtliche Bedrohung. Zahlreiche Auflagen, deren Realisierung auch wir uns wunschen, sind aus Kostengrunden nicht erfullbar, die Grenzen der Lei stungsfiihigkeit vieler Aniisthesieabteilungen sind erreicht oder uberschritten. Aus diesen Grunden wiihlten wir zum Themenkomplex 'Der Risikopatient in der Aniisthesie' fUnf Panelveranstaltungen aus, urn die Aufgabenstellungen fUr den Aniisthesisten unter den dargestellten Voraussetzungen definieren zu konnen. Wahrend viele Substanzen als 'Chemie' und 'Gift' von der AII gemeinheit abgelehnt werden, weil sie nur eng begrenzt als Wertstoffe beno tigt werden, stellen Desinfektionsmittel und Konservierungsstoffe Substanzen dar, die aus unserem heutigen (technisierten) Leben nicht mehr wegzudenken sind und allgemein akzeptiert werden, obwohl sie in ahnlicher Weise biozid sind wie die gemeinhin abgelehnten Pestizide. Dieses Di lemma des 'Vorne-wirken-Milssens' (spri ch: im Krankenhaus oder in verderblichen Lebensmitteln) und 'Hinten-nicht-wirken-Sollens' (sprich: in der kommunalen Klaranlage) eroffnet breiten Raum zur Erforschung akzeptabler Kompromisse. Insbesondere die erforderliche Vertiefung des Wissens um die Zu sammenhange, mOglichen Effekte und systemspezifischen Hemmnisse erfordert die Zusammenarbeit verschiedenster Fachdisziplinen. Die Verwen dung von Hilfsmitteln aus der Variationsrechnung zur Losung von Aufgaben der normati…ven Wirtschaftstheorie war erstmals erfolgreich am Anfang des zweiten Viertels dieses Jahrhun derts. Aus dieser Zeit stammen je ein berUhmtes Beispiel aus der Makrookonomie 1) und der Mikrookonomie. 2) Zahlreiche Modelle, Uberwiegend aus der neoklassischen Wachstums-, Pro duktions- oder Investitionstheorie, folgten in den fUnziger und sechziger Jahren. Die Qualitat und FUlle der erzielten Ergebnisse ist ein Beleg fUr die Leistungsfahigkeit der in terdisziplinaren Kommunikation im allgemeinen und fUr die Ergiebigkeit der Anwendungen der Variationsrechnung auf volkswirtschaftliche Aufgabenstellungen im besonderen. Seit her ist die Benutzung der Methoden der klassischen Variations rechnung zur Behandlung wirtschaftstheoretischer Optimierungs modelle viel seltener geworden. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist zu zeigen, daB die An wendungsmoglichkeiten der Variationsrechnung auf makrookono mische Aufgabenstellungen bei weitem noch nicht erschopft sind. Dies wird mit verschiedenen Modellen belegt. Die gewon nenen neuen Erkenntnisse scheinen die als Leitwort gewahlte Behauptung aus Courant/Hilbert [1924J (Vorwort zur ersten deutschen Ausgabe) auch heute zu bekraftigen. Jedoch wird nicht unterstellt, daB die Variationsrechnung eine umfassende, geschlossene Behandlung der normativen Makrookonomie gestat tet, wie das in mehreren Gebieten der theoretischen Physik der Fall ist. 3) 1) S.
