Neuware -From our daily practice as scholars, consultants and entrepreneurs we know how critical it is to make the right decisions that can shape the future of a company. One of the earliest of such decisions is surely the selection of the appropriate legal form as it is hardly reversible and has major implications on the running business. Accordingly, we can nd a wealth of information about the pros and cons of speci c legal forms. However, so far there is only scarce information available once you decide to enter a foreign market. There are offerings, e.g. from the Chambers of Commerce and you can search the Internet. When information is provided in the local language, comprehension becomes dif cult. Furthermore, the material that is available today only seldom allows for a structured analysis and comparison of legal forms in different countries. From discussions with entrepreneurs we know that this situation has not only been cumbersome for us, but actually everybody who is thinking about starting up a business or widening the operations across country borders is faced with the complex task of deciding on a legal form.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 280 pp. Englisch.

There has been definite progress in a world in which blanket amnesties were at times granted with little hesitation. There is a growing understanding that accountability has both pragmatic and principled arguments in its favor. Practical arguments as much as shifts in norms have created a situation in which the choice is increasingly seen as 'which forms of accountability' rather than a stark one between peace and justice. The Colombian Justice and Peace Law 975 and its implementation offer an interesting and unique approach to dealing with the international crimes committed in Colombiäs decades-long armed conflict. Yet, will this approach suffice with regard to Colombiäs obligations under international law to investigate and prosecute international crimes Does it meet the standards of the ICC, which has been monitoring the Colombian situation for some time now In particular, does it pass the complementarity test laid out in the ICC statute or will the ICC have to intervene in Colombia to enforce international criminal law Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 176 pp. Englisch.

Like Vitaly Ginzburg has foreseen 30 years ago, low dimensionality offers physical phenomena and properties unseen in three-dimensional world. To see how thin lms and monomolecular layers realize such a prediction it suf ces only to observe intensity of research devoted to recently synthesized graphene. Still, quasi-one-dimensional compounds are over long period established as the origin of the most important and most interesting discoveries of material science and solid state physics. To mention only deoxyribonucleic acid, the most important molecule in nature, and diversity of nanotubes and nanowires, the cornerstones of the present and future nanotechnology. Line groups, describing symmetry of quasi-one-dimensional materials, offer the deepest insight to their characteristic properties. Underlying many of the laws, they are very useful, but far from simple. This book is intended to explain them, their properties, and their most common applications. In particular, it is important to understand that the line groups are much wider class of symmetries than the well-known rod groups. While the latter describe only translationally periodical objects, line groups include symmetries of incommensurate periodical structures.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 208 pp. Englisch.

ESWC 2010 presented the latest results in research and applications of Semantic Web technologies. ESWC 2010 built on the success of the former European Semantic Web Conference series, but sought to extend its focus by engaging with other communities within and outside Information and Communication Technologies, in which semantics can play an important role. At the same time, ESWC has become a truly international conference. Semantics of Web content, enriched with domain theories (ontologies), data about Web usage, natural language processing, etc., will enable a Web that p- vides a qualitatively new level of functionality. It will weave together a large network of human knowledge and make this knowledge machine-processable. Various automated services, based on reasoning with metadata and ontologies, will help the users to achieve their goals by accessing and processing infor- tion in machine-understandable form. This network of knowledge systems will ultimately lead to truly intelligent systems, which will be employed for va- ous complex decision-making tasks. Research about Web semantics can bene t from ideas and cross-fertilization with many other areas: arti cial intelligence, natural language processing, database and information systems, information - trieval, multimedia, distributed systems, social networks, Web engineering, and Web science. 468 pp. Englisch.

After Toronto, Sydney and Nara, the conference has now returned to Europe. Pervasiveis one of the most important conferences in the area of pervasive and ubiquitous computing. Asinthepreviousyear, wehadtwocategoriesoftechnicalpapers:FullPapers and Notes. Pervasive attracted 157 valid submissions, from which the Technical Program Committee (TPC) accepted 24 full papers and one note, resulting in an overall acceptance rate of 16%. The submissions included 628 authors from 27 countries representing all the continents (except Antarctica). As we can see from these gures, Pervasive is a truly global highly competitive conference. A major conference such as Pervasive requires a rigorous and objective p- cess for selecting papers. This starts with the selection of a high-quality TPC. We were fortunate to be able to draw on the wisdom and experience of our 28 TPC members, from the most prestigious universities and research labs in - rope, North America, and Asia. This committee was aided by the input of no less than 238 external reviewers chosen on the basis of their domain knowledge and relevance to pervasive computing. The papers were selected using a double-blind review, with four peer reviews perpaper, adiscussionphaseamongthereviewers, andadiscussionoft hepapers in the TPC meeting, which was held in Palo Alto during December 12-13, 2009. These companies are often motivated by the opportunities to solve the coordination and communication difficulties associated with global software development. Yet while agile principles prescribe close interaction and co-location, the very nature of distributed software development does not support these prerequisites. ¿mite, Moe, and Ågerfalk structured the book into five parts. In ¿Motivation¿ the editors introduce the fundamentals of agile distributed software development and explain the rationale behind the application of agile practices in globally distributed software projects. ¿ Transition¿ describes implementation strategies, adoption of particular agile practices for distributed projects, and general concepts of agility. ¿Management¿ details practical implications for project planning, time management, and customer and subcontractor interaction. ¿Teams¿ discusses agile distributed team configuration, effective communication and knowledge transfer, and allocation of roles and responsibilities. Finally, in the ¿Epilogue¿ the editors summarize all contributions and present future trends for research and practice in agile distributed development. This book is primarily targeted at researchers, lecturers, and students in empirical software engineering, and at practitioners involved in globally distributed software projects. The contributions are based on sound empirical research and identify gaps and commonalities in both the existing state of the art and state of the practice. In addition, they also offer practical advice through many hints, checklists, and experience reports. Questions answered in this book include: What should companies expect from merging agile and distributed strategies What are the stumbling blocks that prevent companies from realizing the benefits of the agile approach in distributed environments, and how can we recognize infeasible strategies and unfavorable circumstances What helps managers cope with the challenges of implementing agile approaches in distributed software development projects How can distributed teams survive the decisions taken by management and become efficient through the application of agile approaches Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 380 pp. Englisch.

We planned to run a series of experiments to determine fundamental parameters related to the distribution of neutrons in such s- tems. I felt that it was extremely important to understand how the design would impact upon the accuracy of our results and as a result of this - quirement I developed a design methodology that I subsequently called prediction analysis. After working with this method for several years and applying it to a variety of different experiments, I wrote a book on the subject. Not surprisingly, it was entitled Prediction Analysis and was p- lished by Van Nostrand in 1967. Since the book was published over 40 years ago science and technology have undergone massive changes due to the computer revolution. Not - ly has available computing power increased by many orders of magnitude, easily available and easy to use software has become almost ubiquitous. In the 1960's my emphasis was on the development of equations, tables and graphs to help researchers design experiments based upon some we- known mathematical models. When I reconsider this work in the light of today's world, the emphasis should shift towards applying current techn- ogy to facilitate the design process.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 224 pp. Englisch.

Social network sites (SNS) are competing with face-- face encounters and may even oust them. Most SNS-adepts have hundreds of ¿friends¿, happily sharing pictures and pro les and endless chitchat. We are on the threshold of the Internet of Things, where every object will have its RFID-tag. This will not only e ect companies, who will be able to optimize their production and delivery processes, but also end users, who will be able to enjoy many new applications, ranging from smart shopping, and smart fridges to geo-localized services. In the near future, elderly people will be able to stay longer at home due to clever health monitoring systems. The sky seems to be the limit! However, we have also seen the other side of the coin: viruses, Trojan horses, breaches of privacy, identity theft, and other security threats. Our real and virtual worlds are becoming increasingly vulnerable to attack. In order to encouragesecurity researchby both academia and industry and to stimulate the dissemination of results, conferences need to be organized. After six successful conferences held in 2004¿2009 in China (Beijing, Kunming, Beijing, Shanghai, Xi¿an, and ChangSha) TAMC left Asia for the rst time, aiming at the ¿heart of Europe. ¿ Changingthegeographicallocationdidnotbringanychangestothescopeofthe conference. Its three main themes continued to be Computability, Complexity, and Algorithms. The conference aims to bring together researchersfrom all over the world with interests in theoretical computer science, algorithmic mathem- ics, andapplicationsto thephysicalsciences. Thisyearwesawmoreparticipants from Europe and the Americas, but we were very happy that we could also w- come to Prague traditional participants from Asia (China, Japan, and India) to continue enhancing the collaboration among the theoretical computer science communities of these continents. After hard work the Program Committee decided to accept 35 papers out of 76 submitted to TAMC 2010. Each submission was reviewed by at least three, Program Committee members. All actions of the Program Committee were - ordinated via awlessly and e ciently running EasyChair. We congratulate the authors of accepted contributions and thank all authors who submitted their papers. They all contributed to a successful event. We extend our thanks to the distinguished plenary speakers who accepted our invitation to deliver plenary talks ¿ John Hopcroft from Cornell University and Shang-Hua Teng from University of Southern California. Their talks ¿New Research Directions in the Information Age¿ and ¿The Laplacian Paradigm: Emerging Algorithms for Massive Graph¿ were highlights of the conference.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 496 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Beginning with the first event in 2002, the International Conference on Wired/ Wireless Internet Communications (WWIC) has continuously been established as a highly selective conference focusing on integration and co-existence of rapidly dev- oping wireless network technologies and their applications related to the Internet. To do so WWIC provides an international forum for presenting and discussing cutti- edge research in this domain, and the 8th edition of WWIC, held at Luleå University in June 2010, continued this tradition. The WWIC 2010 call for papers attracted 45 submissions from more than 25 countries and each contribution was subject to thorough peer review by recognized int- national experts that acted as members of the Technical Program Committee. The selection process resulted in 16 accepted papers, which were thematically grouped into 5 technical sessions. The major themes of WWIC 2010 were cooperation, management of multimedia traffic, advancing IEEE 802.11, cognitive optimization, mesh and multi-hop networks, security, signaling, control, and wireless sensor networks. 416 pp. Englisch.

The conference was sponsored by the International Association for Cryptologic Research and held on the French Riviera, May 30¿June 3, 2010. A total of 191 papers were received of which 188 were retained as valid submissions. These were each assigned to at least three Program Committee members and a total of 606 review reports were produced. The printed record of the reviews and extensive online discussions that followed would be almost as voluminous as these proceedings. In the end 35 submissions were accepted with twosubmissionpairsbeingmergedtogive33paperspresentedattheconference. Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -These proceedings contain the refereed papers and posters presented at the rst Information Retrieval Facility Conference (IRFC), which was held in Vienna on 31 May 2010. The conference provides a multi-disciplinary, scienti c forum that aims to bring young researchers into contact with industry at an early stage. IRFC 2010 received 20 high-quality submissions, of which 11 were accepted and appear here. The decision whether a paper was presented orally or as poster was solely based on what we thought was the most suitable form of communi- tion, considering we had only a single day for the event. In particular, the form of presentation bears no relation to the quality of the accepted papers, all of which were thoroughly peer reviewed and had to be endorsed by at least three independent reviewers. The Information Retrieval Facility (IRF) is an open IR research institution, managedby a scienti c board drawnfrom a panel of internationalexperts in the eldwhoseroleistopromotethehighestqualityintheresearchsupportedbythe facility. As a non-pro t research institution, the IRF provides services to IR s- ence in the form of a reference laboratory, hardwareand softwareinfrastructure. Committed to Open Science concepts, the IRF promotes publication of recent scienti c results and newly developed methods, both in traditional paper form and as data sets freely available to IRF members. Such transparency ensures objective evaluation and comparabilityof results and consequently diversity and sustainability of their further development.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 180 pp. Englisch.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -The book presents an accessible account of the sources of ionising radiation and the methods of radiation protection. The basics of nuclear physics which are directly related to radiation protection are briefly discussed. The book describes the units of radiation protection, the measurement techniques, biological effects of radiation, environmental radiation, and many applications of radiation. For each chapter there is a problem section with full solutions. A detailed glossary and many useful information in appendixes complete the book. The author has addressed the issue of internationality to make sure that the text and, in particular, the complicated regulations can be easily interpreted not only in Europe and the United States but also in other countries. The subject of radiation protection requires a certain amount of mathematics. For those who have forgotten the basic rules of calculus a short refresher course in the form of a mathematical appendix is added.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 432 pp. Englisch.

Aggiungi al carrelloBuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -The renormalization group (RG) has nowadays achieved the status of a meta-theory, which is a theory about theories. The theory of the RG consists of a set of concepts and methods which can be used to understand phenomena in many different elds of physics, ranging from quantum eld theory over classical statistical mechanics to nonequilibrium phenomena. RG methods are particularly useful to understand phenomena where uctuations involving many different length or time scales lead to the emergence of new collective behavior in complex many-body systems. In view of the diversity of elds where RG methods have been successfully applied, it is not surprising that a variety of apparently different implementations of the RG idea have been proposed. Unfortunately, this makes it somewhat dif cult for beginners to learn this technique. For example, the eld-theoretical formulation of the RG idea looks at the rst sight rather different from the RG approach pioneered by Wilson, the latter being based on the concept of the effective action which is ite- tively calculated by successive elimination of the high-energy degrees of freedom. Moreover, the Wilsonian RG idea has been implemented in many different ways, depending on the particular problem at hand, and there seems to be no canonical way of setting up the RG procedure for a given problem.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 392 pp. Englisch.

Aggiungi al carrelloBuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -Since the appearance of our book, Fundamentals of Semiconductors: Physics and Materials Properties, one of the questions we are asked most frequently is this: ¿is there a solution manual to this book ¿ In preparing the questions at the end of each chapter we have already tried to guide the readers to derive the answers by themselves using a step-by-step approach. Clearly this strategy did not work for everyone. We recognize that many of the questions in this book are quite challenging and often require reading of research papers to solve them. In response to readers demand we have - cided to provide solutions to some of the problems in this new edition. Since working through problems is an important and necessary part of the learning process in physics we will not give the solutions to all the problems. Instead, we hope to use the solutions to a number of selected problems in each ch- ter as an additional study help to the readers. We like to use these solutions to provide more in depth discussions to topics which may be too specialized for a typical course on semiconductor physics. By leaving enough unsolved problems and adding a few new ones there are still plenty of opportunities for both the instructors to choose problems for assignments and for students to test their understanding of the text.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 804 pp. Englisch.

Aggiungi al carrelloBuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -Information behavior has emerged as an important aspect of human life, however our knowledge and understanding of it is incomplete and underdeveloped scientifically. Research on the topic is largely contemporary in focus and has generally not incorporated results from other disciplines. In this monograph Spink provides a new understanding of information behavior by incorporating related findings, theories and models from social sciences, psychology and cognition. In her presentation, she argues that information behavior is an important instinctive sociocognitive ability that can only be fully understood with a highly interdisciplinary approach. The leitmotivs of her examination are three important research questions: First, what is the evolutionary, biological and developmental nature of information behavior Second, what is the role of instinct versus environment in shaping information behavior And, third, how have information behavior capabilities evolved and developed over time Written for researchers in information science as well as social and cognitive sciences, Spink¿s controversial text lays the foundation for a new interdisciplinary theoretical perspective on information behavior that will not only provide a more holistic framework for this field but will also impact those sciences, and thus also open up many new research directions.
