The generation and distribution of keys for data encryption play a central role in this. Because security assessments for mathematical methods are based on assumptions, physical methods are becoming interesting in the high-security sector. They promise to link security more closely to the laws of nature. This raises the key question: Which technology is suitable for which application scenario, and what assumptions, costs, and operational risks are involved This book provides answers and, for the first time, compares QKD (Quantum Key Distribution), RKD (Radio-signal Key Distribution), and MKD (Memory Key Distribution) within a common, transparent criteria framework: technology-neutral, practical, and easy to understand. The evaluation covers secret key rates, range/attenuation, robustness, costs, infrastructure, portability, standardization, IT security, and security risks (implementation, integration, post-processing, side channels). The evaluations are deliberately presented not as a ranking, but as a decision-making aid.The book will be published in print and as open access.QKDderives its security from the laws of quantum physics, but secret key rates decrease with increasing attenuation. Key management systems connect short QKD distances over longer distances, but only at the cost of additional attack surfaces ('trusted nodes'). Its use for mobile applications fails due to a lack of technical maturity. Very high financial costs and high maintenance requirements for QKD solutions make them unattractive in high-security environments.RKDutilizes the reciprocal physical properties of a radio link and scores points for its low technical complexity, excellent suitability for mobile applications (e.g., vehicles or drones), and very low costs. However, RKD falls far short of the key rates achieved by QKD solutions and is still limited to shorter distances. In addition, there is no established infrastructure for distributing key material to more than two partners.MKDtakes a completely different approach: each party produces key material, stores it on a data carrier, and transports it physically to the other party. Because MKD can securely transfer 16 TB of key material in a single transport, only MKD has the potential to continuously provide a one-time pad (OTP) and thus provably 100% secure data encryption. The price is organizational responsibility: secure generation, storage, transport, and documented chain of custody.The book examines data security for telecommunications and data storage, discusses encryption modes for OTP, and addresses the question of when 'OTP proximity' makes more sense than theoretical purity. It explains this trajectory in the context of technological innovations that have fueled the evolution of cross-border cultural messaging. This messaging continues to proliferate via largely illicit citizen-managed markets that keep developing ways to evade the censorship of central governments in the remnants of the Communist world. Its popularity with ordinary citizen keeps growing because of showing higher standards of living and well-being. Citizens embrace it as an escapist mechanism and this embrace is analyzed as an outcome of soft power. The dynamic is discussed on two fronts in this volume. One is with a focus on the technological innovations since the end of the Cold War that have increased the breadth, scope, and source of cross-cultural messaging. The other is with a focus on the evolution of the economic structure of the former Communist world. Wealth and digitization are congruent and therefore, a parallel lesion discussion is offered on the change of economic realities of the last decades of Communism and today. The change is the significant growth of wealth in the former Communist world. Authoritarian governments are deploying it in their own soft power ways to promote their domestic and international clout and defy Western cultural and diplomatic pressures, including economic sanctions. This resilience is discussed with a focus on how Russia is withstanding the unprecedented economic sanctions imposed on it for its war on Ukraine. It does so with the help of its ideological allies, including North Korea and China, eager to support Russia in its defiance of Western values. The soft power of these autocratic power players is examined further in the context of the interplay between soft and sharp power. This interplay redefines formal and informal socio-cultural diplomacy. Drawing from Michel Foucault's work on security as a species concept, it develops thre…e non-speciesist strategies - the genealogical, the figural, and the fictional - for deactivating the genocidal apparatus of area.The hypothesis advanced here is that it is not just the democratic idea of the social contract nor the capitalist commodification of labor that introduces the element of fiction into the political in a self-conscious way. Rather, the configuration of the temporal imaginary drawn from the global history of settler colonialism is what ultimately introduces the element of fiction into the modern notion of political community realized in the nation-state. Yet as the historical experience of Nazism's radicalization of the settler colonial project reveals, the 'fiction of the political' is ultimately connected not just to the nation-state but to the imaginary relation known as the West. Having posited a fundamental link between genocide and the imaginary relation known as the West, the essay concludes by summarizing the two main types of methodological discontinuity practiced by Foucault: the first consists in the singular site of transition at which discontinuity is rendered into continuity; the second consists in the biopoetics of narrative metalepsis that is a stylistic trademark of Foucault's writing. 161 pp. Englisch.
