The ambitious goal of this research is twofold, the first is to advance the state of the art on human strat…egies in manipulation tasks and provide tools to assess rehabilitation procedure and the second is to investigate human strategies for impedance control that can be used for human robot interaction and control of myoelectric prosthesis.Part one describes two types of systems that are able to achieve a complete set of measurements on force distribution and contact point locations. The effectiveness of these devices in grasp analysis is also experimentally demonstrated and applications to neuroscientific studies are discussed. In part two, the devices are exploited in two different studies to investigate stiffness regulation principles in humans. The first study provides evidence on the existence of coordinated stiffening patterns in the fingers of human hands and establishes initial steps towards a real-time and effective modelling of finger stiffness in tripod grasp. The second study presents experimental findings on how humans modulate their hand stiffness whilst grasping objects of varying levels of compliance.The overall results give solid evidence on the validity and utility of the proposed devices to investigate human grasp properties. This study discusses what Taylor's approach has brought to the scholarly debate on Western secularization, which has been carried on mostly in sociological terms. McKenzie interprets Taylor's views in a way that offers an original social theory. Such interpretation is possible with the help of sociologist Margaret Archer's 'morphogenetic theory' and by making the most of Taylor's particular understanding of the method of the social sciences and of his philosophical views on human beings, knowledge and modernity. After exploring the philosophical and sociological sources informing Taylorean social theory and proposing its basic concepts and hermeneutic guidelines, the author compares it with two widespread theories of secularization: the now waning 'orthodox' account and that proposed by Rational Choice Theory scholars, particularly prevalent in the United States. Neuware -This book describes how epigenetic context, in a large sense, affects gene expression and the development of an organism, using the asymptotic limit theorems of information theory to construct statistical models useful in data analysis. The a…pproach allows deep understanding of how embedding context affects development. We find that epigenetic information sources act as tunable catalysts, directing ontogeny into characteristic pathways, a perspective having important implications for epigenetic epidemiology. In sum, environmental stressors can induce a broad spectrum of developmental dysfunctions, and the book explores a number of pandemic chronic diseases, using U.S. data at different scales and levels of organization. In particular, we find the legacy of slavery has been grossly compounded by accelerating industrial decline and urban decay. Individual chapters are dedicated to obesity and its sequelae, coronary heart disease, cancer, mental disorders, autoimmune dysfunction, Alzheimer¿s disease, and other conditions. Developmental disorders are driven by environmental factors channeled by historical trajectory and are unlikely to respond to medical interventions at the population level in the face of persistent individual and community stress. Drugs powerful enough to affect deleterious epigenetic programming will likely have side effects leading to shortened lifespan.
