Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This series is directed to health care professionals who are leading the tra- formation of health care by using information and knowledge. Launched in 1988 as Computers in Health Care, the series offers a broad range of titles: some addressed to specific professions such as nursing, medicine, and health administration; others to special areas of practice such as trauma and radi- ogy. Still other books in the series focus on interdisciplinary issues, such as the computer-based patient record, electronic health records, and networked health care systems. Renamed Health Informatics in 1998 to reflect the rapid evolution in the discipline now known as health informatics, the series will continue to add titles that contribute to the evolution of the field. In the series, eminent - perts, serving as editors or authors, offer their accounts of innovations in health informatics. Increasingly, these accounts go beyond hardware and so- ware to address the role of information in influencing the transformation of healthcare delivery systems around the world. The series also increasingly focuses on 'peopleware' and the organizational, behavioral, and societal changes that accompany the diffusion of information technology in health services environments. 244 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This thoroughly revised and updated edition of the classic text on surface mechanics preserves the objectives of the original: the rigorous derivation of surface properties such as temperature and deformation from the differential equations of continuum mechanics. From such solutions for the surfaces of single bodies one can then formulate problems involving two bodies at rest or in relative motion in terms of a singular integral equation. The discussion is analytical and theoretical, but animated by the authors' decades of experience in applications and experimental mechanics. This new edition has been updated to include many technologically motivated problems and solutions, especially computer solutions. Beginning with a survey of the field equations of classical continuum mechanics, the book continues with a discussion of surface temperatures in moving bodies. It then turns to seminfinite and layered elastic media, discussing stress and deformation as well as thermal stress and associate deformation fields. Treat- ments of viscoelasticity and perfect plasticity concentrate on semi-infinite solids; these are followed by a discussion of rough surfaces. The book concludes with a lengthy chapter of applications. An appendix discusses integral equations. Intended for graduate students of mechanics and mechanical engineering, the book will also be of interest to applied mathematicians and others interested in tribology. 420 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Lev Ropes (illustratore). This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book completes Robert G. Bailey's celebrated study of ecoregions, begun in the landmark Ecosystem Geography (1996) and further articulated in Ecoregions (1998). In this third installment, the author expands his system for defining large-scale ecological zones to encompass principles of land management, regional planning, and design. In an engaging, non-technical discussion, he shows how larger patterns and processes that characterize a region - its climate, topography, soils, vegetation, fauna, and human culture - provide essential keys to the sustainability of ecosystems. Ecoregion-Based Design for Sustainability will be welcomed by land and resource managers, landscape architects and urban planners, ecologists, students, and anyone interested in ecology-based design.'Bob Bailey is the man behind the ecosystem mapping of the world.' (Lingua Franca Reviews of Ecoregions)'The book provides easy access to the geographic distribution, characteristics, and processes operatin g behind every major ecosystem in the world.' (Geoscience Canada)'For schools and colleges Ecoregions offers an invaluable source of description, interpretation and analysis of global patterns of ecosystem distribution and successfully provides the reader with a means of making sense of these patterns.' (Geography)Robert G. Bailey is a geographer with the United States Forest Service in Fort Collins, Colorado, and leader of the agency's Ecosystem Management Analysis Center. 240 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book is a significant update of the first four chapters of Symmetries and Differential Equations (1989; reprinted with corrections, 1996), by George W. Bluman and Sukeyuki Kumei. Since 1989 there have been considerable developments in symmetry methods (group methods) for differential equations as evidenced by the number of research papers, books, and new symbolic manipulation software devoted to the subject. This is, no doubt, due to the inherent applicability of the methods to nonlinear differential equations. Symmetry methods for differential equations, originally developed by Sophus Lie in the latter half of the nineteenth century, are highly algorithmic and hence amenable to symbolic computation. These methods systematically unify and extend well-known ad hoc techniques to construct explicit solutions for differential equations, especially for nonlinear differential equations. Often ingenious tricks for solving particular differential equations arise transparently from the symmetry point of view, and thus it remains somewhat surprising that symmetry methods are not more widely known. Nowadays it is essential to learn the methods presented in this book to understand existing symbolic manipulation software for obtaining analytical results for differential equations. For ordinary differential equations (ODEs), these include reduction of order through group invariance or integrating factors. For partial differential equations (PDEs), these include the construction of special solutions such as similarity solutions or nonclassical solutions, finding conservation laws, equivalence mappings, and linearizations. 436 pp. Englisch.

The papers cover a wide range of topics presented in the workshop. In particular, mathematical topics include a performance comparison of operator-splitting and non- splitting methods, time-stepping methods to preserve positivity and consideration of multiple timescale issues in the modeling of atmospheric chemistry, a fully 3D adaptive-grid method, impact of rid resolution on model predictions, testing the robustness of different flow fields, modeling and numerical methods in four-dimensional variational data assimilation, and parallel computing. Modeling topics include the development of an efficient self-contained global circulation-chemistry-transport model and its applications, the development of a modal aerosol model, and the modeling of the emissions and chemistry of monoterpenes that lead to the formation of secondary organic aerosols. The volume provides an excellent cross section of current research activities in atmospheric modeling. 364 pp. Englisch.
