Great care has been taken in presenting the data analyses in a software-independent fashion.Geert Verbeke is Assistant Professor at the Biostistical Centre of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. He received the B.S. degree in mathematics (1989) from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, the M.S. in biostatistics (1992) from the Limburgs Universitair Centrum, and earned a Ph.D. in biostatistics (1995) from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Dr. Verbeke wrote his dissertation, as well as a number of methodological articles, on various aspects of linear mixed models for longitudinal data analysis. He has held visiting positions at the Gerontology Research Center and the Johns Hopkins University.Geert Molenberghs is Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at the Limburgs Universitair Centrum in Belgium. He received the B.S. degree in mathematics (1988) and a Ph.D. in biostatistics (1993) from the Universiteit Antwerpen. Dr. Molenberghs published methodological work on the analysis of non-response in clinical and epidemiological studies. He serves as an associate editor for Biometrics, Applied Statistics, and Biostatistics, and is an officer of the Belgian Statistical Society. The emergence of battery-operated, low-cost and p…ortable computers such as palmtops and PDAs, coupled with the availability and exploitation of wireless networks, have made possible the potential for ubiquitous computing. Through the wireless networks, portable equipments will become an integrated part of existing distributed computing environments, and mobile users can have access to data stored at information servers located at the static portion of the network even while they are on the move. Traditionally, information is retrieved following a request-response model. However, this model is no longer adequate in a wireless computing environment. First, the wireless channel is unreliable and the bandwidth is low compared to the wired counterpart. Second, the environment is essentially asymmetric with a large number of mobile users accessing a small number of servers. Third, battery-operated portable devices can typically operate only for a short time because of the short battery lifespan. Thus, clients are expected to be disconnected most of the time. To overcome these limitations, there has been a proliferation of research efforts on designing data delivery mechanisms to support wireless computing more effectively. Data Dissemination in Wireless Computing Environments focuses on such mechanisms. The purpose is to provide a thorough and comprehensive review of recent advances on energy-efficient data delivery protocols, efficient wireless channel bandwidth utilization, reliable broadcasting and cache invalidation strategies for clients with long disconnection time. Since circuits can contain several million transistors, verification of such large designs becomes more and more difficult. Pure simulation cannot guarantee the… correct behavior and exhaustive simulation is often impossible. However, many designs, like ALUs, have very regular structures that can be easily described at a higher level of abstraction. For example, describing (and verifying) an integer multiplier at the bit-level is very difficult, while the verification becomes easy when the outputs are grouped to build a bit-string. Recently, several approaches for formal circuit verification have been proposed that make use of these regularities. These approaches are based on Word-Level Decision Diagrams (WLDDs) which are graph-based representations of functions (similar to BDDs) that allow for the representation of functions with a Boolean range and an integer domain.Formal Verification of Circuits is devoted to the discussion of recent developments in the field of decision diagram-based formal verification. Firstly, different types of decision diagrams (including WLDDs) are introduced and theoretical properties are discussed that give further insight into the data structure. Secondly, implementation and minimization concepts are presented. Applications to arithmetic circuit verification and verification of designs specified by hardware description languages are described to show how WLDDs work in practice.Formal Verification of Circuits is intended for CAD developers and researchers as well as designers using modern verification tools.
