The theory provides a classification of acts-in-the-law and of legal norms resulting from performances of these. Finally, the transition is made from institutional legal facts to legal institutions. The book is a contribution to the institutional theory of law as developed by N. MacCormick and O. Weinberger.

The 'Notes' sections of the following chapters are particularly aimed at counteracting this problem. Since the emphasis of the book is on aspects of molecular analysis, it was possible to devote only a limited amount of space to describing protocols for culture and isolation of the primary parasitic material. Therefore, of the numerous parasitic systems that are currently being investigated in laboratories around the world, only techniques for c- turing the 'big five' are described here, since they collectively account for the great bulk of research in this field. There are at least 3-4 million people in France alone who suffer from arterial hypertension, and whose cardiovascular system is submitted day and night to both a haemodynamic and hormonal stress. In all cases, the vasculature hypertrophies as does the myocardium. This gr…owth process is obviously mainly detrimental at the outset since it lowers compliance of the arteries and makes them stiffer. In contrast, myocardial hypertrophy is initially beneficial since the growth process multiplies the number of contractile units and by so doing improves external work. In addition, according to Starling's law, wall stress is lowered. Growth factors playa major role in this amoral process as a trigger for hypertrophy at the vascular level, and very likely at the level of the myocardium. Another major point of interest is the role of growth factors as determinants of restenosis after angioplasty and also of atherogenesis. Several chapters in this book are directly or indirectly concerned with this problem which is far from being purely academic since several groups are currently trying to control these processes by gene transfer. Certainly, one of the major clinical questions arising from such studies is why restenosis is not more frequent in clinical practice. After de-endotheliazation, the biologist would predict on the basis of recent studies on growth factors, and in contrast with current clinical opinion, that hypertrophy would occur in all cases with more or less complete restenosis.

This ispartly due to the many application areas of computationalgeometry and partly due to the beauty of the field itself.This monograph focuses on three problems that arise inthree-dimensional computational geometry. The first problemis the ray shooting problem: preprocess a set of polyhedrainto a data structure such that the first polyhedron that ishit by a query ray can be determined quickly. The secondproblem is that of computing depth orders: we want to sort aset of polyhedra such thatif one polyhedron is (partially)obscured by another polyhedron then it comes first in theorder. The third problem is the hidden surface removalproblem: given a set of polyhedra and a view point, computewhich parts of the polyhedra are visible from the viewpoint. These three problems involve issues that arefundamental to three-dimensional computational geometry.The book also contains a large introductory part discussingthe techniques used to tackle the problems.
