In almost all such problems the multiplicity of criteria for judging the alternatives is pervasive. That is, for many such… problems, the decision maker (OM) wants to attain more than one objective or goal in selecting the course of action while satisfying the constraints dictated by environment, processes, and resources. Another characteristic of these problems is that the objectives are apparently non commensurable. Mathematically, these problems can be represented as: (1. 1 ) subject to: gi(~) ~ 0, ,', . . . , ! where ~ is an n dimensional decision variable vector. The problem consists of n decision variables, m constraints and k objectives. Any or all of the functions may be nonlinear. In literature this problem is often referred to as a vector maximum problem (VMP). Traditionally there are two approaches for solving the VMP. One of them is to optimize one of the objectives while appending the other objectives to a constraint set so that the optimal solution would satisfy these objectives at least up to a predetermined level. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Looking at a very simple example of an error-in-variables model, I was surprised at the effect that standard dynamic features (in the form of autocorre 11 lation. in the variables) could have on the state of identification of the m…odel. It became apparent that identification of error-in-variables models was less of a problem when some dynamic features were present, and that the cathegory of 'pre determined variables' was meaningless, since lagged endogenous and truly exogenous variables had very different identification properties. Also, for'the models I was considering, both necessary and sufficient conditions for identification could be expressed as simple counting rules, trivial to compute. These results seemed somewhat striking in the context of traditional econometrics literature, and p- vided the original motivation for this monograph. The monograph, therefore, atempts to analyze econometric identification of models when the variables are measured with error and when dynamic features are present. In trying to generalize the examples I was considering, although the final results had very simple expressions, the process of formally proving them became cumbersome and lengthy (in particular for the 'sufficiency' part of the proofs). Possibly this was also due to a lack of more high-powered analytical tools and/or more elegant derivations, for which I feel an apology coul be appropiate. With some minor modifications, this monograph is a Ph. D. dissertation presented to the Department of Economics of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Thanks are due to. Dennis J. The donor suggested that the gift be used to support a conference on th…e current dilem mas of the American family and to publish its proceedings. The current chairman of the department, Jerry Wiener, formulated the initial plans for the conference with Leon Yochelson, who had been chairman at the time the gift was made. Dr. Yochelson is now Chairman of the Board of the Psychiatric Institute of the District of Columbia. These initial discussions led to a significant and sus tained collaboration between the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at George Washington and the Psychiatric In stitute in planning the conference and the present volume. A committee was established to plan the conference. It con sisted of Peter Steinglass, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, and George Cohn, Professor of Child Health and Development, both of George Washington, and Margaret Garrett, a member of the psychiatric staff at the Psychiatric Institute. The committee was jointly chaired by the editors of this volume. The committee re ceived indispensable assistance from members of the administra tive staff of the Psychiatric Institute: Al Bruce, Carol Klein, and Miriam Mathura. Margaret Schnellinger of the Center for Family Research, George Washington University, was also very helpful in all phases of planning the conference. 268 pp. Englisch.

Much attention is paid to hyperbolic geometry by school mathematics clubs. Some mathematicians and educators concerned with reform of the high school curriculum believe that the required part of the curriculum should include elements of hyperbolic geometry, and that the optional part of the curriculum should include a topic related to hyperbolic geometry. I The broad interest in hyperbolic geometry is not surprising. This interest has little to do with mathematical and scientific applications of hyperbolic geometry, since the applications (for instance, in the theory of automorphic functions) are rather specialized, and are likely to be encountered by very few of the many students who conscientiously study (and then present to examiners) the definition of parallels in hyperbolic geometry and the special features of configurations of lines in the hyperbolic plane. S…. Gurdjian, whose report follows this preface. The main reason for the Committee's decision was the hope that the diffusion of the Glossary through 'Acta Neurochirurgica' may bring about a better understanding of neurotraumatological terminology on a worldwide scale. The Glossary should facilitate the classification and the comparison of traumatic lesions of the Nervous System. It will consequently be easier to compile statistics and correctly interpret the informations thus obtained. The very commendable initiative of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons in revising the terminology of head injuries and in publishing this work in Vol. 12 (1966) of 'Clinical Neurosurgery' constitutes an important contribution. In 1977 the Glossary now presented endeav ours to complete and bring up to date the definitions of anatomical or physiological modifications in the neurotraumatological field. The logic stands behind the ontology and is, so to speak, metaphysically prior. One word of caution. The philosophical aspects of logic have lagged behind the mathematical aspects in point of view of interest and develop ment. The work of N. Rescher and others have gone a long way to correct this. However, their work on philosophical logic has been more concerned with the logical than with the philosophical aspects. I have in mind another approach, one that would call attention to the ontological (systematic meta physics) or metaphysical (critical ontology) aspects, whichever term you prefer. It is this approach which I have pursued in the following chapters. Since together they stand at the head of a system of philosophy which has been developed in some seventeen books, a system which ranges over all of the topics of philosophy, the chosen approach can be seen as the necessary one. The peace settle ments neither established security from renewed attacks by the defeated nations nor did they lay the groundwork for a reconstruction of Europe's devastated economic system, because the members of the Allied war coali tion could not agree on the goals to be pursued by the treaties or on the means to enforce their settlement. In this context, reparations played a most signi ficant role. The conflict between the European protagonists France, Great Britain and Germany reached its peak at the beginning of 1923 when Franco Belgian troops occupied the Ruhr district in a last attempt to implement strategies developed in 1919 for a control ofthe German economic potential until reparations had been paid and to show to the Anglo-Saxon powers that any modification of Allied policy toward Germany could not be attained against French objections or without a simultaneous adjustment of French war debts. The conflict between the European protagonists France, Great Britain and Germany reached its peak at the beginning of 1923 when Franco Belgian troops occupied the Ruhr district in a last attempt to implement strategies developed in 1919 for a control ofthe German economic potential until reparations had been paid and to show to the Anglo-Saxon powers that any modification of Allied policy toward Germany could not be attained against French objections or without a simultaneous adjustment of French war debts. Trotz der endotrachealen Intubation und Anwendung moder…ner Pharmaka bei der Durchfiih rung der Anaesthesie und Entwicklung spezieller Anaesthesietechniken, sowie Beachtung und Verfeinerung der Vorsichtsml&nahmen die eine Regurgitation und Aspiration verhtiten sollen, stellen diese Komplikationen auch heute ein klinisches Problem fUr die Anaesthesiepraxis dar. Das Ziel dieser Untersuchung war es, besonders jtingeren Kollegen die Problematik der Aspira tion vertraut zu machen und die Bedeutung des intraluminalen Druckverhaltens irn gastrooeso phagealen Bereich nach Gabe von den am haufigsten verwendeten pharmakologischen Substan zen in der Anaesthesie zu veranschaulichen. Neben den Kontusions- und Aspirationsfolgen, den Pneumonien und anderen lange bekannten Schädigungen und Erkrankungen des Respirationsorgans beansprucht die 'Schocklunge' zu nehmendes Interesse. Die Primärvorgänge, dIe zu dieser (vor allem durch interstitielles Oedem gekennzeichneten) oft letalen Komplikation fuhren, sind noch weitgehend ungeklärt und an gesichts der verschiedenen Ursachen der sog. Schocklunge vermutlich auch nicht einheitlich. Auffallend ist, daß die Veränderungen bei Mehrfachverletzten besonders schwer sind und be sonders früh auftreten, wobei weder eine positive Korrelation zum Blutverlust erkennbar ist, noch der Flüssigkeitsbilanz eine entscheidende Rolle zukommt. Metz hat deshalb eine neurogene Auslösung vermutet und im Tierversuch überprüft, ob man durch Stimulation peripherer Nerven ein der menschlichen Schocklunge ähnliches Syndrom hervorrufen kann. Dies ist ihm gelungen, er konnte die dabei ablaufenden hämodynamischen Vorgänge abklären und als Ursache der Oedementstehung herausstellen. Weitere Versuchsserien, in denen die Lungenveränderungen bei sonst gleicher Anordnung durch tiefe Narkose, Analgetica und Sympathicolytica, aber auch durch einen Aderlaß ver hindert oder abgeschwächt wurden, unterstützen die These von der neurogenen-hämodyna mischen Primärphase in der Entstehung der Schocklunge. 104 pp. Deutsch.
