Aggiungi al carrelloBuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - A. THE TEXT The main importance of these two treatises lies in the insight they provide into Spinoza's conception of the relation between mathematics and certain disciplines not touched upon elsewhere in his major writings. The mathematics they involve are not the as those of the Ethics however, and the precise connection same between the geometrical order of this work and these excursions into optics and probability is by no means obvious. Add to this difficulty the knotty problems presented by their editorial his tory, dating and scientific background, and it is not perhaps surprising that in spite of the fact that they provide such an excellent illustration of Spinoza's reaction to certain important developments in the history of physics and mathematics, they should not, so far, have attracted much attention. They were first published in 1687 by Levyn van Dyck (d. 1695), official printer to the town council in The Hague. Printing anything by Spinoza was not without its risks, and it is probably significant that during the same year van Dyck should also have published a lengthy and elaborate refutation of Spinozism by 1 the pious and eccentric physician ]. F. Helvetius. Spinoza's name was omitted from the title-page, possibly because the editor or publisher thought that his reputation as an atheist might prejudice the sale of the booklet, and it was not until 1860 that the Amsterdam bookseller Frederik Muller (1817-1881) identified him as its author.

Neuware - It is a source of great satisfaction to us that a Second Edition of this treatise should be called for, especially because it has given us the opportunity to produce, we believe, a better book. Eighteen chapters, amounting to one-third of the whole, are new, and of these, 13 deal with subjects not covered at all in the First Edition. We have paid more attention to embryonic and fetal growth, with chapters on cell differentiation (Lehtonen and Saxen), embryonic growth (O'Rahilly and Muller), control of fetal size (Snow), regulation of fetal growth (D'Ercole and Underwood), and ultrasonic studies offetal growth (Meire). At last the data are available for a chapter on the evolution of the human growth curve, by Eliz abeth Watts. Large parts of the endocrine section have been rewritten (by Michael Preece, and by William Crowley and Margaret Wierman), and the genetics section has been largely recast, with new contributions by William Mueller and Ronald Wilson. Reynaldo Marto rell has contributed a new chapter on growth in developing countries, and Tanner discusses growth surveys and standards as well as catch-up growth. Finally, there are two new chap ters dealing with growth as a monitor of the health of populations-one by Tadeusz Bie licki, considering the contemporary scene, and the other by Robert Fogel, on the contri bution that such studies are making to the economic history of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The purpose of this symposium was to bring together investigators who have a com mon interest in those receptors which are located in the liver, and who have studied endocytic mechanisms for various macromolecules like insulin, lipoproteins, epi dermal growth factor and others. Experiments in this particular field of research date back to the early 60-ies but have only recently led to new and important in sight in the molecular basis of receptor mediated uptake in the liver. The structural features which control these mechanisms are currently under intense investigation in many laboratories. Though this symposium largely emphasizes lipoprotein up take and catabolism by the liver, it was the particular intention of the organizers to discuss methodology and results with investigators who are also interested in he patic uptake of macromolecules. This might then eventually lead to new and com mon concepts for both receptor-ligand interaction and internalization processes in the liver. Biochemists, pathologists and gastroenterologists met for two and a half days and discussed their latest data in this so rapidly developing field of basic rese arch. This conference is part of a series on current topics in gastroenterology and hepatology arranged regularly by the Departments of Medicine and Surgery at the University Hospital Eppendorf. If is our hope, that such exchange of information between the different disciplines in medicine will continue. i. k. 236 pp. Englisch.

In addition to papers devoted entirely to plant water relations, papers on other topics are in cluded if they contain data on plant hydration level, water vapour efflux, rate of water uptake or water transport, etc., or if they contain valuable methodological in formation (measurement of selected microclimatic factors, soi I moisture etc.). We have tried to cover fully the relevant papers which have been publ ished in important scientific periodicals and books. Articles appeared in local journals, mimeographed booklets, abstracts of thesis and of symposia contributions, etc., were chosen mostly from reprints received directly from authors. The courtesy of those is highly appreciated. The manuscript is usually prepared in May and June of the year fol lowing the year which it covers. Unfortunately some reprints come later and thus the respective references appear in the fol lowing volume, with one year delay. 'The Hermit Clad in Crane Feathers' in R. van Gulik's The Chinese Maze Murders. Growing specialization and diversification have brought a host of monographs and textbooks on increasingly specialized topics. However, the 'tree' of knowledge of mathematics and related fields does not grow only by putting forth new branches. It also happens, quite often in fact, that branches which were thought to be completely disparate are suddenly seen to be related. Further, the kind and level of sophistication of mathematics applied in various sciences has changed drastically in recent years: measure theory is used (non-trivially) in regional and theoretical economics; algebraic geometry interacts with physics; the Minkowsky lemma, cod ing theory and the structure of water meet one another in packing and covering theory; quantum fields, crystal defects and mathematical pro gramming profit from homotopy theory; Lie algebras are relevant to filtering; and prediction and electrical engineering can use Stein spaces. 280 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The distribution of capital and income in general and its re lation to wealth and economic growth in particular have attrac ted economists' interest for a long time already. Especially the, at least partially, conflicting nature of the two politi cal objectives, namely to obtain substantially large economic growth and a 'just' income distribution at the same time, has caused the topic to become a subject of political discussions. As a result of these discussions, numerous models of workers' participation in the profits of growing economies have been developed. To a minor extent and with quite diverse success, some have been implemented in practice. It is far beyond the scope of this work to outline all these approaches from the past centuries and, in particular, the past decades. In economic theory many authors, for instance Kaldor [1955], Krelle [1968], [1983], Pasinetti [1962], Samuelson and Modigli ani [1966], to name but a few, have analyzed the long-term eco nomic implications of workers' saving and investment. While most of this extensive literature is highly interesting, it suffers from the fact that it does not explicitly consider either workers' or capitalists' objectives and thus neglects their impacts on economic growth. Thus, in the framework of a neo-classical model, these objectives and their impacts will be emphasized here. 160 pp. Englisch.

Thus, in the framework of a neo-classical model, these objectives and their impacts will be emphasized here.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 160 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Cell surface receptors are multifunctional proteins with binding sites towards the external environment and effector sites which mediate intracellular events. If is our hope, that such exchange of information between the different disciplines in medicine will continue. i. k.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 236 pp. Englisch.

They draw upon widely different sections of mathematics.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 244 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -The tenth volume of Water-in-Plants Bibl iography includes papers in al I fields of plant water relations research which appeared during the year 1984 - from theoreti cal considerations about the state of water in cel Is and its membrane transport to drought resistance of plants or physiological significance of irrigation. To maximize the value of the bibl iography the references are arranged alphabetic ally according to the authors' names, and each volume is provided with three indexes.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 340 pp. Englisch.
