Jea and White represent an earlier generation of African-Americans that were born into slavery but granted their freedom shortly after American independence, in the 1780s. Both men chose to fight against slavery from the pulpit, as itinerant Methodist ministers in the North. Methodism's staunch anti-slavery stance, acceptance of African-American congregants, and widespread use of itinerant preachers enhanced black religious practices and services in the late eighteenth century and the nineteenth century. This portfolio could contain real assets such as a car, or a house, as well as financial assets such as stocks, bonds or futures. Portfolio theory deals with how to… form a satisfied portfolio among an enormous number of assets. Originally proposed by H. Markowtiz in 1952, the mean-variance methodology for portfolio optimization has been central to the research activities in this area and has served as a basis for the development of modem financial theory during the past four decades. Follow-on work with this approach has born much fruit for this field of study. Among all those research fruits, the most important is the capital asset pricing model (CAPM) proposed by Sharpe in 1964. This model greatly simplifies the input for portfolio selection and makes the mean-variance methodology into a practical application. Consequently, lots of models were proposed to price the capital assets. In this book, some of the most important progresses in portfolio theory are surveyed and a few new models for portfolio selection are presented. Models for asset pricing are illustrated and the empirical tests of CAPM for China's stock markets are made. The first chapter surveys ideas and principles of modeling the investment decision process of economic agents. It starts with the Markowitz criteria of formulating return and risk as mean and variance and then looks into other related criteria which are based on probability assumptions on future prices of securities. 220 pp. Englisch.

The Esprit BRA6453 was itself a continuation of the former Esprit - tion 3245, Logical Frameworks: Design, Implementation, and Experiments. The articles from the annual workshops under that Action were edited by Gerard Huet and Gordon Plotkin in the books Logical Frameworks and Logical En- ronments, both published by Cambridge University Press. FoIKS took up the tradition of the conference series 'Mathematical Fundamentals of Database S- tems' (MFDBS) which enabled East-West collaboration in the eld of database theory. The rst FoIKS symposium was held in Burg, Spreewald (Germany) in 2000. Former MFDBS conferences were held in Dresden (Germany) in 1987, Visegr ad (Hungary) in 1989, and in Rostock (Germany) in 1991. Proceedings of these previous events were published by Springer-Verlag as volumes 305, 364, 495, and 1762 of the LNCS series. In addition the FoIKS symposium is intended to be a forum for intensive d- cussions. For this reason the time slot of long and short contributions is 60 and 30 minutes respectively, followed by 30 and 15 minutes for discussions, respectively. Furthermore, participants are asked in advance to prepare as correspondents to a contribution of another author. The program also included two invited talks by Ron Rivest ('Micropayments Revisited' - joint work with Silvio Micali) and by Victor Shoup ('The Bumpy Road from Cryptographic Theory to Practice'). Each paper was reviewed by at least three program committee members; paperswrittenbyprogramcommitteemembersreceivedsixreviews.Theauthors of accepted papers made a substantial e ort to take into account the comments intheversionsubmittedtotheseproceedings.Inalimitednumberofcases,these revisions were checked by members of the program committee. I would like to thank the 20 members of the program committee who helped to maintain the rigorous scienti c standards to which the Cryptographers' Track aims to adhere.
