The symposium focused on theoretical, experimental and computational issues in elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) both in relation to sm…ooth surfaces and in situations where the lm is of the same order or th- ner than the surface roughness (micro-EHL). The last IUTAM Symposium in this general area of contact of deformable bodies was in 1974. The emphasis in the Symposium was upon fundamental issues such as: solution methods; lubricant rheological models, thermal effects; both low and high elastic m- ulus situations; human and replacement joints; uid traction; dynamic effects, asperity lubrication and the failure of lubrication; surface fatigue and thermal distress under EHL conditions. Delegates were welcomed to Wales and the Cardiff School of Engine- ing by the head of the School, Professor Hywel Thomas. The opening l- ture was given jointly by Professor Duncan Dowson, FRS and Sir Gordon Higginson, the distinguished partnership which produced some of the most important numerical solutions to the fundamental EHL problem which led to the rst reliable lm thickness formula for isothermal, Newtonian conditions. Their presentation reviewed the early developments in the subject and included some fascinating details of the dif culties overcome and the scienti c pers- alities involved. This book results from my continuous and deep interest in multiple criteria decision making (MCDM). Eleven years ago I wrote in my p- vious monograph: 'This work re…sults from my interest in the eld of vector optimization. I stumbled rst upon this subject in 1982 [ . ]. I was attracted then by a gap between vector optimization used to serve as a formal model for multiple objective decision problems and the - cision problems themselves, the gap nonexistent in scalar optimization. Roughly speaking, vector optimization provides methods for ranking - cisions according to a partial order whereas decision making requires a linear ordering of decisions.' This declaration is still valid and nothing needs to be changed. To be more speci c, this book is a fruit of my dissatisfaction with the current state-of-the-art of MCDM. MCDM is a branch of science, whose declared ultimate goal is to provide practical tools. However, we cannot say, and this is regrettable, that all present MCDM methods and algorithms are in popular use by those who make complex decisions and for that purpose are in need of methodological or computational support.

This volume focuses on stomach, gut, pancreas, and liver and highlights the role of proteases in normal physiology and disease processes involving these tissues. The first chapter by Nigel W. Bunnett and Graeme S. Cottrell reviews the current knowledge about the protease-activated receptors (PARs) in gastrointestinal tissues. Starting with the mechanisms of activation, signal transduction, and regulation of PAR, their role in controlling gastrointestinal functions and the possible involvement in gastrointestinal diseases are summarized. All of Hilbert, Gödel, Poincaré, Weyl and Bohr thought that intuition was an indispensable element in describing the foundations of science. They had very different reasons for thinking this, and they had very different accounts of what they called intuition. But they had in common that their views of mathematics and physics were significantly influenced by their readings of Kant. In the present volume, various views of intuition and the axiomatic method are explored, beginning with Kant's own approach. By way of these investigations, we hope to understand better the rationale behind Kant's theory of intuition, as well as to grasp many facets of the relations between theories of intuition and the axiomatic method, dealing with both their strengths and limitations; in short, the volume covers logical and non-logical, historical and systematic issues in both mathematics and physics.

This is the same amount as is moved yearly by natural forces, such as winds, eruptions, earthquakes, rain.Since the Kyoto Protocol entered into force on 16 February 2005 an investment on rational use of energy, savings and efficiency is the main premise supporting the development of new energy sources needed to meet the target of the KP and UNFCCC. If energy consumption decreases, renewable sources could cover a significant part of the demand of energy (in particular electricity), if consumption remains uselessly high because inefficient and less energy-consuming (acting also on final uses), renewable energy would become a reality, a feasible method even in these sectors. With investments being equal (today all in the sector of generation from fossil sources), if there were parallel researches on how to reduce consumption and wastes considerably (at least 35%) and on power plants from renewable sources, there would be also a reduction of gas emissions, without any negative influence on development.New technologies (and new 'energy products') will play a crucial role in the development of a market of 'sustainable energy products' that should grow in a competitive way (cost-effective) to stand against the challenge of change.

Since independence, the countries of the Central Asian region have undergone a series o…f transition from centrally planned economies to a more market oriented system. Wide-ranging policy reforms have been implemented, although in varying degrees, in the five Central Asian countries. Despite great efforts by the countries and the external advice and efforts of international agencies to help them to follow a dynamic growth path, the progress in policy reforms has been frustratingly slow. Generating momentum to reorient the approach and the sequencing of policy reform packages will require rethinking of the policy reform process. This is particularly so in the food, agriculture, and natural resource sectors. This further requires improved understanding among the policymakers, donors, and international agencies of the impact of policy alternatives so that policy reforms and the speed with which they have been implemented are consistent with the objectives and the social and political realities of individual countries in the region. Involving the local policy research community in identifying critical issues and challenges, setting priorities among them for food and agricultural and natural resource policy research and analysis, and implementing joint research studies is the best way to generate knowledge on the impact of policy reforms and to increase ownership of policy design and implementation.

Finally, a detailed bibliography of all cited references is provided. In the present volume IV/1C1 selected semiconductor ternary alloy systems are considered.

A contingent claim is a derivative whose value at any settlement date is determined by the value of one o…r more other underlying assets, e. g. , forwards, futures, plain-vanilla or exotic options with European or American-style exercise features. Market-conform pricing means that prices of existing actively traded securities are taken as given, and then the set of equivalent martingale measures that are consistent with the initial prices of the traded securities is derived using no-arbitrage arguments. Sometimes in the literature other expressions are used for 'market-conform' valuation - 'smile-consistent' valuation or 'fair-market' valuation - that describe the same basic idea. The seminal work by Black and Scholes (1973) (BS) and Merton (1973) mark a breakthrough in the problem of hedging and pricing contingent claims based on no-arbitrage arguments. Harrison and Kreps (1979) provide a firm mathematical foundation for the Black-Scholes- Merton analysis. They show that the absence of arbitrage is equivalent to the existence of an equivalent martingale measure. Under this mea sure the normalized security price process forms a martingale and so securities can be valued by taking expectations. If the securities market is complete, then the equivalent martingale measure and hence the price of any security are unique. 120 pp. Englisch.
