Techniques for quantitative analyses included radioenzymatic procedures and, more recently, HPlC-EC and auto mated GC-MS. The methods are applied af…ter separation of the sub stances to be analyzed and after their purification by physicochemical procedures that are becoming more and more efficient. The identification and quantitative analysis of minute amounts of trace amines in biological fluids or tissues is in itself a remarkable technological achievement. The enormous task that several teams of research workers have set themselves is to investigate the origin of the trace amines, to understand their metabolism, and to discover whether or not they possess an important biological role. The 2nd Trace Amines Symposium at Weitenburg Castle near Tubingen from the 15th to the 19th May 1985 was held to gain a somewhat clearer insight into the present state of knowledge. Since the first meeting in 1983 our knowledge has increased and interest is deepening. Hence the idea proposed at that first meeting, of organizing similar gather ings at regular intervals, has come to fruition. Covered in the Neuropsychopharmacology section of this book are studiesof the effects of certain trace amines on different forms of be havior, on neurotransmission mediated by . the classical neuro transmitters, on their biosynthesis or on catabolism, on their possible occurrence as a result of alternative metabolic pathways for the amino acids, and in some instances their neuroanatomical distributions.

The workshop dealt with economic models in which time plays…an essential role, and both the description of adjustment to a static equilibrium and the description of equilibrium paths were considered. From a mathematical point of view, discrete dynamical systems and the dynamics of ordi nary and partial differential equations played a major role. The conference consisted of lectures by economists and by mathematicians which treated some of the principal ideas of economic dynamics. Donald Saari pro vided some discrete dynamical systems background for a paper by Jean-Michel Grandmont on business cycles; the Grandmont paper was a major focus of the Workshop. Daniel Goroff, Jose Scheinkman, Christopher Sims. Neil Wallace. and Michael Woodford discussed the Grandmont paper after its presentation. The ideas of tatonnement were introduced by Leonid Hurwicz and extended by Andreu MasColell and H. Jerome Keisler. Four papers on economic dynamics follow (W. A. Brock, Truman Bewley. W. A. Brock and M. Rothschild and Yieh-Hei Wan). The remaining papers are devoted to issues of quantity and/or price adjustment (William Novshek and Hugo Sonnenschein. Phillipe Artzner. All but one of these were presented as invited papers in…special sessions I organized at the 7th Annual Conference on Economic Dynamics and Control in London, England, during the period June 26-28, 1985. The first article, which comprises Chapter 1, provides a general introduction to the topic of dynamic and differential game theory, discusses various noncooperative equilibrium solution concepts, includ ing Nash, Stackelberg, and Consistent Conjectural Variations equilibria, and a number of issues such as feedback and time-consistency. The second chapter deals with the role of information in Nash equilibria and the role of leadership in Stackelberg problems. A special type of a Stackelberg problem is the one in which one dominant player (leader) acquires dynamic information involving the actions of the others (followers), and constructs policies (so-called incentives) which enforce a certain type of behavior on the followers; Chapter 3 deals with such a class of problems and presents some new theoretical results on the existence of affine incentive policies. The topic of Chapter 4 is the computation of equilibria in discounted stochastic dynamic games. Here, for problems with finite state and decision spaces, existing algorithms are reviewed, with a comparative study of their speeds of convergence, and a new algorithm for the computation of nonzero-sum game equilibria is presented. 308 pp. Englisch.

Tbe workshop forum was inspired by the very successful 1983 Mechanics of Hearing Workshop in Delft [1]. Boston University was chosen as the site of our meeting because of the Boston area's role as a center for hearing research in this country. We made a special effort at this meeting to attract students from around the world, because without students this field will not progress. Financial support for the workshop was provided in part by grant BNS- 8412878 from the National Science Foundation. Modeling is a traditional strategy in science and plays an important role in the scientific method. Models are the bridge between theory and experiment. Tbey test the assumptions made in experimental designs. They are built on experimental results, and they may be used to test hypotheses and predict experimental results. Tbe latter is the scientific method at its best. Cochlear function is very complicated. For this reason, models play animportant role. One goal of modeling is to gain understanding, but the necessary mathematical tools are often formidably complex. At the beginning stands Montague's pioneering work, showing how a rigorous semantics can be given for complete fragments of natural language by creating a suitable fit between syntactic categories and semantic types. This very enterprise already dispelled entrenched prejudices concerning the separation of linguistics and logic. Having seen the light, however, there is no reason at all to stick to the letter of Montague's proposals, which are often debatable. The first article, which comprises Chapter 1, provides a general introduction to the topic of dynamic and differential game theory, discusses various noncooperative equilibrium solution concepts, includ ing Nash, Stackelberg, and Consistent Conjectural Variations equilibria, and a number of issues such as feedback and time-consistency. The second chapter deals with the role of information in Nash equilibria and the role of leadership in Stackelberg problems. A special type of a Stackelberg problem is the one in which one dominant player (leader) acquires dynamic information involving the actions of the others (followers), and constructs policies (so-called incentives) which enforce a certain type of behavior on the followers; Chapter 3 deals with such a class of problems and presents some new theoretical results on the existence of affine incentive policies. The topic of Chapter 4 is the computation of equilibria in discounted stochastic dynamic games.
