The history of philosophy shows clearly that the answer to the question, 'How does science function ' was the conditio sine qua non of any kind of philosophy of science, epistemology and even of logic. Aristotle, Hume, Kant, Mill, Russell, to mention a few classical authors, clearly emphasized the primacy of methodology of science for any kind of philosophy of science. One may even state that analyses of the presup positions, the foundations, the aims, goals and purposes of science are nothing else than analyses of their general and specific formal, as well as practical and empirical methods. Thus, the whole program of any phi losophy of science is dependent on the analysis of the methods of sciences and the establishment of their criteria. If the study of scientific method is the predominant factor in the philosophy of science, then all the other problems will depend on the outcome of such a study. For example, the old question of a possible unity of all social sciences will be brought to a solution by the study of the presuppositions, the methods, as well as of the criteria germane to all social sciences.

On the basis of these studies, social scientists have set forth certain generalizations concerning the types of American minor parties, their…characteristics, their functions, and the obstacles they face in the American party system. However, in their comparative analysis of political parties, political scientists have generally limited themselves to comments about the major parties. This study examines in detail all the minor parties which have participated in the national elections of the Federal Republic of Germany since its inception in 1949 in light of the descriptive and explanatory generalizations which have been formulated about minor parties in the United States. The purpose of such an analysis is threefold. First, it provides materials on the West German minor parties which will be readily accessible for cross-national research. Second, through comparisons with the West German experience, the generalizations pro duced to explain American minor parties are made more suitable for comparative analysis. Third, and most important, it seeks to demonstrate that some minor parties play an important role in a party system and that, therefore, minor parties should not be ignored in the comparative analysis of political parties. I am deeply indebted to Professors William B. Gwyn and James D. Cochrane for their help on this project. Network structure, which seemingly borders the photospheric supergranule cells, persists intact throughout the chromosphere and most of the chromosphere-corona transition region. The network is the locus of the bright coarse mottles, and the spicule bushes and is the terminus for one end of the quiet chromo spheric fibrils as well. Additionally, it is the locus of most of the magnetic flux of the quiet chromosphere. It is not surprising, therefore, that current studies of the chromosphere tend to center around efforts to better describe the network phenom ena and to ascertain the physical properties of the network features. Clearly, the supergranule cells and associated network structures constitute a fundamental and singularly important feature of solar structure in the boundary layers. Just as it is now clear that much of the chromo spheric fine structure is associated with the network bordering supergranule cells, it seems equally clear that structural features are almost universally associated with both fluid flow and magnetic geometry. Indeed, many observers claim that the brightness features faithfully map the mag netic lines offorce while still others claim that associated with each class of brightness feature there is a more or less unique fluid flow. 332 pp. Englisch.

Als ich 1967 an dem Manuskript über Erzprov…inzen und Kontinentaldrift arbeitete, ergab sich die Frage, ob die Metalle der Lagerstätten in den wandernden Kontinentalschollen beheimatet sind oder ob sie aus dem wechselnden Substratum des oberen Mantels und der daraus ge speisten ozeanischen Kruste stammen. Es galt also, das Material zu überprüfen, das die Beziehungen der Erzlagerstätten zur Geochemie ihrer kontinentalen Um gebung oder zur Geochemie des Ozeanbodens zeigt. Dies kann zugleich auch Bei träge ergeben zu dem Problem der modernen Iateralsekretionären Lagerstätten bildung. Die wirkungsvollste Art, sich bei der heutigen großen Menge von Literatur über ein komplexes Thema zu informieren, ist, kompetente Leute zusammenzu bitten, damit sie darüber vortragen und diskutieren. Ich darf sagen, daß meinem Bedürfnis voll Genüge geleistet wurde und ich habe dafür all den lieben Kolle gen, die zum Teil von sehr weit nach Leoben gekommen sind, herzlichen Dank zu sagen. Alle Vorträge behandeln, ja man kann fast sagen, klären in ihrer Gesamt heit das aufgeworfene Problem. Ich möchte aber doch glauben und hoffen, daß nicht nur der Veranstalter, son dern auch die Teilnehmer von den Vorträgen und Diskussionen Nutzen hatten.
