It will be particularly interesting to… discuss groups which possess properties of both types. The origins of the subject may be traced back to the nineteen twenties and thirties and are associated with the names of R. Baer, S. N. Cernikov, K. A. Hirsch, A. G. Kuros, 0.]. Schmidt and H. Wie landt. Since this early period, the body of theory has expanded at an increasingly rapid rate through the efforts of many group theorists, particularly in Germany, Great Britain and the Soviet Union. Some of the highest points attained can, perhaps, be found in the work of P. Hall and A. I. Mal'cev on infinite soluble groups. Kuras's well-known book 'The theory of groups' has exercised a strong influence on the development of the theory of infinite groups: this is particularly true of the second edition in its English translation of 1955. To cope with the enormous increase in knowledge since that date, a third volume, containing a survey of the contents of a very large number of papers but without proofs, was added to the book in 1967. 232 pp. Englisch.

Back in the middle fifties I was shown a Raman spectrum for the first time: some faint lines on a photographic plate. In the fall of 1971, during a visit to Moscow, I vividly remembered that spectrum when the son of Mandel'shtam showed me the first spectrum taken in Russia by his father and Landsberg in 1928. The spectrum of quartz photographed during January and February of that year showed the presence of some faint new lines and in later exposures these lines became stronger and stronger. 180 pp. Englisch.

This thesis originates in syntactic research into the Aspects carried out in 1967 under the supervision of Albert Kraak, professor at the University of Nijmegen, who ever since gave much attention to my work in progress. The present study closely relates to the work of my colleague Wim Klooster with regard to both its theoretical framework and its subject matter. G. INTRODUCTION This book is written particularly for chemists. Being one myself, I have on several occasions tried to find a book where the theory of molecular Raman spectroscopy is treated, and not being able to find one which satisfactorily answered the questions I wanted to see answered, I decided to try to write a book on it myself. Back in the middle fifties I was shown a Raman spectrum for the first time: some faint lines on a photographic plate. In the fall of 1971, during a visit to Moscow, I vividly remembered that spectrum when the son of Mandel'shtam showed me the first spectrum taken in Russia by his father and Landsberg in 1928. The spectrum of quartz photographed during January and February of that year showed the presence of some faint new lines and in later exposures these lines became stronger and stronger. 180 pp. Englisch.

Die GrundzUge der Kapitel VI, IV und VII wurden schon zu frUherer Zeit vorgetragen [33] . Der Ausgangspunkt fUr die vorliegende Arbeit liegt in konkreten Aufga benstellungen der Regelungstechnik, die mit den bisher bekannten Me thoden nur mehr oder weniger befriedigend zu lasen sind, wenn fUr dy namisch veranderliche GraBen (Steuer- und ZustandsgroBen) Beschrankun gen vorgegeben sind. Es wird eine spezielle Strategie entwickelt, aus der Regelalgorithmen bzw. RegIer resultieren, die auf die BerUcksich tigung derartiger Beschrankungen zugeschnitten sind. Auf der Basis die ser Strategie werden eine Reihe von Entwurfs- und Realisierungsverfah ren im einzelnen beschrieben, die wesentlich auf die Verwendung eines Digitalrechners als Syntheseinstrument abgestimmt sind. Aus diesen 'rechnergestUtzten Verfahren' ergeben sich schlieBlich sehr einfache RegIer, die mit Hilfe analoger Bauelemente ohne groBen Aufwand zu rea lisieren sind. Dieses Buch ist fUr den Gebrauch des Ingenieurs oder Studenten geschrie ben, der sich fUr Probleme mit Beschranktheitsforderungen und im Zu sammenhang damit fUr den rechnerunterstUtzten Entwurf vnn nichtlinearen Reglern interessiert. An regelungstechnischen Kenntnissen werden die Grundlagen der linearen Theorie vorausgesetzt, nicht aber Optimaltheo rie oder nichtlineare Theorie.
