Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - In Part I of this report the pointwise derivation of scalar set functions is investigated, first along the lines of R. DE POSSEL (abstract derivation basis) and A. P. MORSE (blankets); later certain concrete situations (e. g. , the interval basis) are studied. The principal tool is a Vitali property, whose precise form depends on the derivation property studied. The 'halo' (defined at the beginning of Part I, Ch. IV) properties can serve to establish a Vitali property, or sometimes produce directly a derivation property. The main results established are the theorem of JESSEN-MARCINKIEWICZ-ZYGMUND (Part I, Ch. V) and the theorem of A. P. MORSE on the universal derivability of star blankets (Ch. VI) . . In Part II, points are at first discarded; the setting is somatic. It opens by treating an increasing stochastic basis with directed index sets (Th. I. 3) on which premartingales, semimartingales and martingales are defined. Convergence theorems, due largely to K. KRICKEBERG, are obtained using various types of convergence: stochastic, in the mean, in Lp-spaces, in ORLICZ spaces, and according to the order relation. We may mention in particular Th. II. 4. 7 on the stochastic convergence of a submartingale of bounded variation. To each theorem for martingales and semi-martingales there corresponds a theorem in the atomic case in the theory of cell (abstract interval) functions. The derivates concerned are global. Finally, in Ch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -In this book we attempt to develop the fundamental results of resistive network analysis, based upon a sound mathematical structure. The axioms upon which our development is based are Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's Voltage Law, and Kirchhoff's Current Law. In order to state these axioms precisely, and use them in the development of our network analysis, an elaborate mathematical structure is introduced, involving concepts of graph theory, linear algebra, and one dimensional algebraic topology. The graph theory and one dimensional algebraic topology used are developed from first principles; the reader needs no background in these subjects. However, we do assume that the reader has some familiarity with elementary linear algebra. It is now stylish to teach elementary linear algebra at the sophomore college level, and we feel that the require ment that the reader should be familiar with elementary linear algebra is no more demanding than the usual requirement in most electrical engineering texts that the reader should be familiar with calculus. In this book, however, no calculus is needed. Although no formal training in circuit theory is needed for an understanding of the book, such experience would certainly help the reader by presenting him with familiar examples relevant to the mathematical abstractions introduced. It is our intention in this book to exhibit the effect of the topological properties of the network upon the branch voltages and branch currents, the objects of interest in network analysis.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 212 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -This monograph is aiming at researchers of systems control, especially those interested in multiagent systems, distributed and decentralized control, and structured systems. The book assumes no prior background in geometric control theory; however, a firstyear graduate course in linear control systems is desirable. Since not all control researchers today are exposed to geometric control theory, the book also adopts a tutorial style by way of examples that illustrate the geometric and abstract algebra concepts used in linear geometric control. In addition, the matrix calculations required for the studied control synthesis problems of linear multivariable control are illustrated via a set of running design examples. As such, some of the design examples are of higher dimension than one may typically see in a text; this is so that all the geometric features of the design problem are illuminated.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 180 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -A synthetic approach to intrinsic differential geometry in the large and its connections with the foundations of geometry was presented in 'The Geometry of Geodesics' (1955, quoted as G). It is the purpose of the present report to bring this theory up to date. Many of the later ip.vestigations were stimulated by problems posed in G, others concern newtopics. Naturally references to G are frequent. However, large parts, in particular Chapters I and III as weIl as several individual seetions, use only the basic definitions. These are repeated here, sometimes in a slightly different form, so as to apply to more general situations. In many cases a quoted result is quite familiar in Riemannian Geometry and consulting G will not be found necessary. There are two exceptions : The theory of paralleIs is used in Sections 13, 15 and 17 without reformulating all definitions and properties (of co-rays and limit spheres). Secondly, many items from the literature in G (pp. 409-412) are used here and it seemed superfluous to include them in the present list of references (pp. 106-110). The quotations are distinguished by [ ] and ( ), so that, for example, FreudenthaI [1] and (I) are found, respectively, in G and here.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 124 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -The present volume gives a systematic treatment of potential functions. It takes its origin in two courses, one elementary and one advanced, which the author has given at intervals during the last ten years, and has a two-fold purpose: first, to serve as an introduction for students whose attainments in the Calculus include some knowledge of partial derivatives and multiple and line integrals; and secondly, to provide the reader with the fundamentals of the subject, so that he may proceed immediately to the applications, or to the periodical literature of the day. It is inherent in the nature of the subject that physical intuition and illustration be appealed to freely, and this has been done. However, that the book may present sound ideals to the student, and in order also serve the mathematician, both for purposes of reference and as a basis for further developments, the proofs have been given by rigorous methods. This has led, at a number of points, to results either not found elsewhere, or not readily accessible. Thus, Chapter IV contains a proof for the general regular region of the divergence theorem (Gauss', or Green's theorem) on the reduction of volume to surface integrals. The treatment of the fundamental existence theorems in Chapter XI by means of integral equations meets squarely the difficulties incident to the discontinuity of the kernel, and the same chapter gives an account of the most recent developments with respect to the Dirichlet problem.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 400 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Since the publication of an article by G. DOETSCH in 1927 it has been known that the Laplace transform procedure is a reliable sub stitute for HEAVISIDE'S operational calculus\*. However, the Laplace transform procedure is unsatisfactory from several viewpoints (some of these will be mentioned in this preface); the most obvious defect: the procedure cannot be applied to functions of rapid growth (such as the 2 function t ~ exp (t )). In 1949 JAN MIKUSINSKI indicated how the un necessary restrictions required by the Laplace transform can be avoided by a direct approach, thereby gaining in notational as well as conceptual simplicity; this approach is carefully described in MIKUSINSKI'S textbook 'Operational Calculus' [M 1J. . The aims of the present book are the same as MIKUSINSKI'S [M 1J: a direct approach requiring no un-necessary restrictions. The present operational calculus is essentially equivalent to the 'calcul symbolique' of distributions having left-bounded support (see 6.52 below and pp. 171 to 180 of the textbook 'Theorie des distributions' by LAURENT SCHWARTZ).Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 368 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -In this second volume on the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics we shall show how it is possible, using the methodology presented in Volume I, to deduce some of the most important applications of quantum mechanics. These deductions are concerned with the structures of the micro systems rather than the technical details of the construction of preparation and registration devices. Accordingly, the only new axioms (relative to Volume I) which are introduced are concerned with the relationship between ensemble operators W, effect operators F, and certain construction principles of the preparation and registration devices. The applications described here are concerned with the measurement of atomic and molecular structure and of collision experiments. An additional and essential step towards a theoretical description of the preparation and registration procedures is carried out in Chapter XVII. Here we demonstrate how microscopic collision processes (that is, processes which can be describedby quantum mechanics) can be used to obtain novel preparation and registration procedures if we take for granted the knowledge of only a few macroscopic preparation and registration procedures. By clever use of collision processes we are often able to obtain very precise results for the operators Wand F which describe the total procedures from a very imprecise knowledge of the macroscopic parts of the preparation and regis tration processes. In this regard experimental physicists have done brilliant work. In this sense Chapter XVII represents a general theoretical foundation for the procedures used by experimental physicists.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 436 pp. Englisch.

In order to present a clear narrative I have omitted exact references to the literature for individual propositions. However, each chapter begins with a short introduction which also contains historical remarks. Deutsche Akademie der vVissenschaften zu Berlin Institut fur Reine Mathematik Albrecht Pietsch Foreword to the Second Edition Since the appearance of the first edition, some important advances have taken place in the theory of nuclear locally convex spaces. Firsts there is the Universality Theorem ofT. and Y. Komura which fully confirms a conjecture of Grothendieck. Also, of particular interest are some new existence theorems for bases in special nuclear locally convex spaces. Recently many authors have dealt with nuclear spaces of functions and distributions. Moreover, further classes of operators have been found which take the place of nuclear or absolutely summing operators in the theory of nuclear locally convex spaces. Unfortunately, there seem to be no new results on diametrai or approximative dimension and isomorphism of nuclear locally convex spaces. Since major changes have not been absolutely necessary I have restricted myself to minor additions. Only the tenth chapter has been substantially altered. Since the universality results no longer depend on the existence of a basis it was necessary to introduce an independent eleventh chapter on universal nuclear locally convex spaces. In the same chapter s-nuclear locally convex spaces are also briefly treated.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 208 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -There are two aspects to the theory of Boolean algebras; the algebraic and the set-theoretical. A Boolean algebra can be considered as a special kind of algebraic ring, or as a generalization of the set-theoretical notion of a field of sets. Fundamental theorems in both of these directions are due to M. H. STONE, whose papers have opened a new era in the develop ment of this theory. This work treats the set-theoretical aspect, with little mention being made of the algebraic one. The book is composed of two chapters and an appendix. Chapter I is devoted to the study of Boolean algebras from the point of view of finite Boolean operations only; a greater part of its contents can be found in the books of BIRKHOFF [2J and HERMES [1]. Chapter II seems to be the first systematic study of Boolean algebras with infinite Boolean operations. To understand Chapters I and II it suffices only to know fundamental notions from general set theory and set-theoretical topology. No know ledge of lattice theory or of abstract algebra is presumed. Less familiar topological theorems are recalled, and only a few examples use more advanced topological means; but these may be omitted. All theorems in both chapters are given with full proofs.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 252 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Hardy, Littlewood and P6lya's famous monograph on inequalities [17J has served as an introduction to hard analysis for many mathema ticians. Some of its most interesting results center around Hilbert's inequality and generalizations. This family of inequalities determines the best bound of a family of operators on /p. When such inequalities are restricted only to finitely many variables, we can then ask for the rate at which the bounds of the restrictions approach the uniform bound. In the context of Toeplitz forms, such research was initiated over fifty years ago by Szego [37J, and the chain of ideas continues to grow strongly today, with fundamental contributions having been made by Kac, Widom, de Bruijn, and many others. In this monograph I attempt to draw together these lines of research from the point of view of sharpenings of the classical inequalities of [17]. This viewpoint leads to the exclusion of some material which might belong to a broader-based discussion, such as the elegant work of Baxter, Hirschman and others on the strong Szego limit theorem, and the inclusion of other work, such as that of de Bruijn and his students, which is basically nonlinear, and is therefore in some sense disjoint from the earlier investigations. I am grateful to Professor Halmos for inviting me to prepare this volume, and to Professors John and Olga Todd for several helpful comments. Philadelphia, Pa. Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Varieties of algebras are equationally defined classes of algebras, or 'primitive classes' in MAL'CEV'S terminology. They made their first explicit appearance in the 1930's, in Garrett BIRKHOFF'S paper on 'The structure of abstract algebras' and B. H. NEUMANN'S paper 'Identical relations in groups I'. For quite some time after this, there is little published evidence that the subject remained alive. In fact, however, as part of 'universal algebra', it aroused great interest amongst those who had access, directly or indirectly, to PHILIP HALL'S lectures given at Cambridge late in the 1940's. More recently, category theory has provided a general setting since varieties, suitably interpreted, are very special examples of categories. Whether their relevance to category theory goes beyond this, I do not know. And I doubt that the category theoretical approach to varieties will be more than a fringe benefit to group theory. Whether or not my doubts have substance, the present volume owes its existence not to the fact that varieties fit into a vastly more general pattern, but to the benefit group theory has derived from the classification of groups by varietal properties. It is this aspect of the study of varieties that seems to have caused its reappearance in the literature in the 1950's.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 208 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -In the last few decades the theory of ordinary differential equations has grown rapidly under the action of forces which have been working both from within and without: from within, as a development and deepen ing of the concepts and of the topological and analytical methods brought about by LYAPUNOV, POINCARE, BENDIXSON, and a few others at the turn of the century; from without, in the wake of the technological development, particularly in communications, servomechanisms, auto matic controls, and electronics. The early research of the authors just mentioned lay in challenging problems of astronomy, but the line of thought thus produced found the most impressive applications in the new fields. The body of research now accumulated is overwhelming, and many books and reports have appeared on one or another of the multiple aspects of the new line of research which some authors call' qualitative theory of differential equations'. The purpose of the present volume is to present many of the view points and questions in a readable short report for which completeness is not claimed. The bibliographical notes in each section are intended to be a guide to more detailed expositions and to the original papers. Some traditional topics such as the Sturm comparison theory have been omitted. Also excluded were all those papers, dealing with special differential equations motivated by and intended for the applications.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 288 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -It is hardly an exaggeration to say that, if the study of general topolog ical vector spaces is justified at all, it is because of the needs of distribu tion and Linear PDE \* theories (to which one may add the theory of convolution in spaces of hoi om orphic functions). The theorems based on TVS \*\* theory are generally of the 'foundation' type: they will often be statements of equivalence between, say, the existence - or the approx imability -of solutions to an equation Pu = v, and certain more 'formal' properties of the differential operator P, for example that P be elliptic or hyperboJic, together with properties of the manifold X on which P is defined. The latter are generally geometric or topological, e. g. that X be P-convex (Definition 20. 1). Also, naturally, suitable conditions will have to be imposed upon the data, the v's, and upon the stock of possible solutions u. The effect of such theorems is to subdivide the study of an equation like Pu = v into two quite different stages. In the first stage, we shall look for the relevant equivalences, and if none is already available in the literature, we shall try to establish them. The second stage will consist of checking if the 'formal' or 'geometric' conditions are satisfied.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 140 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -This is not an introduction to physics but an analysis of its founda tions. Indeed, the aims of this book are: (1) to analyze the form and content of some of the key ideas of physics; (2) to formulate several basic physical theories in an explicit and orderly (i. e. , axiomatic) fashion; (3) to exhibit their presuppositions and discuss some of their philosoph ical implications; (4) to discuss some of the controversial issues, and (5) to debunk certain dusty philosophical tenets that obscure the under standing of physics and hinder its progress. To the extent to which these goals are attained, the volume can serve as a companion to studies in theoretical physics aiming at deepening the understanding of the logical structure and the physical meaning of our science. In order to keep the book slender, whole fields of basic physical research had to be excluded - chiefly many-body physics, quantum field theories, and elementary particle theories. A large coverage was believed to be less important than a comparatively detailed analysis and reconstruction of three representative monuments: classical mechan ics, general relativity, and quantum mechanics, as well as their usually unrecognized presuppositions. The reader is invited to join the project and supply some of the many missing chapters - or to rewrite the present ones entirely.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 328 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -The term ¿control theory¿ refers to the body of results - theoretical, numerical and algorithmic - which have been developed to influence the evolution of the state of a given system in order to meet a prescribed performance criterion. Systems of interest to control theory may be of very different natures. This monograph is concerned with models that can be described by partial differential equations of evolution. It contains five major contributions and is connected to the CIME Course on Control of Partial Differential Equations that took place in Cetraro (CS, Italy), July 19 - 23, 2010. Specifically, it covers the stabilization of evolution equations, control of the Liouville equation, control in fluid mechanics, control and numerics for the wave equation, and Carleman estimates for elliptic and parabolic equations with application to control. We are confident this work will provide an authoritative reference work for all scientists who are interested in this field, representing at the same time a friendly introduction to, and an updated account of, some of the most active trends in current research.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 360 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -In the theory of partial differential equations, the study of elliptic equations occupies a preeminent position, both because of the importance which it assumes for various questions in mathematical physics, and because of the completeness of the results obtained up to the present time. In spite of this, even in the more classical treatises on analysis the theory of elliptic equations has been considered and illustrated only from particular points of view, while the only expositions of the whole theory, the extremely valuable ones by LICHTENSTEIN and AscoLI, have the charac ter of encyclopedia articles and date back to many years ago. Consequently it seemed to me that it would be of some interest to try to give an up-to-date picture of the present state of research in this area in a monograph which, without attaining the dimensions of a treatise, would nevertheless be sufficiently extensive to allow the expo sition, in some cases in summary form, of the various techniques used in the study of these equations.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 388 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Theoretical researches in general relativity and observational data from galactic astronomy combine in this volume in contributions to one of the oldest questions of natural philosophy: Is the structure of the physical world more adequately described by a continuous or a discrete mode of representation Since the days of the Pythagoreans, this question has surfaced from time to time in various guises in science as well as in philosophy. One of the most bitterly contested and illuminating controversies between the continuous and the discrete viewpoints is to be found in the wave versus corpuscular description of optical phenom enae. This controversy was not resolved to the satisfaction of most of its protaganists until the development of the quantum theory. However, several obscurities that still becloud the question suggest that some deeper formulation may be necessary before more satisfactory answers can be given 1. The firm establishment of the validity of quantized structure and discrete energy distributions on the atomic scale following the ideas of Max Planck, together with the apparent absence of quan tization effect in astronomical and cosmic structures leaves uncertainties concerning the role played by the scale of the observer in perceiving or not perceiving discrete distributions. Some of the metaphysical inter pretations and implications of the quantum mechanics that have been made in recent years 2 would be subject to revision if the existence of discretized descriptions were to be established in astronomical and cosmic structures.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 200 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Except for this preface, this study is completely self-contained. It is intended to serve both as an introduction to Quantification Theory and as an exposition of new results and techniques in 'analytic' or 'cut-free' methods. We use the term 'analytic' to apply to any proof procedure which obeys the subformula principle (we think of such a procedure as 'analysing' the formula into its successive components). Gentzen cut-free systems are perhaps the best known example of ana lytic proof procedures. Natural deduction systems, though not usually analytic, can be made so (as we demonstrated in [3]). In this study, we emphasize the tableau point of view, since we are struck by its simplicity and mathematical elegance. Chapter I is completely introductory. We begin with preliminary material on trees (necessary for the tableau method), and then treat the basic syntactic and semantic fundamentals of propositional logic. We use the term 'Boolean valuation' to mean any assignment of truth values to all formulas which satisfies the usual truth-table conditions for the logical connectives. Given an assignment of truth-values to all propositional variables, the truth-values of all other formulas under this assignment is usually defined by an inductive procedure. We indicate in Chapter I how this inductive definition can be made explicit-to this end we find useful the notion of a formation tree (which we discuss earlier).Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 176 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -The applications of ergodic theory to metric number theory are well known; part of the latter theory turns out to be essentially a special case of general ergodic theorems. In the present book other applications of ergodic concepts are presented. Constructing 'flows' of integral points on certain algebraic manifolds given by systems of integral polynomials, we are able to prove individual ergodic theorems and mixing theorems in certain cases. These theorems permit asymptotic calculations of the distributions of integral points on such manifolds, and we arrive at results inaccessible up to now by the usual methods of analytic number theory. Typical in this respect is the theorem concerning the asymptotic distribution and ergodic behavior of the set of integral points on the sphere X2+ y2+z2=m for increasing m. It is not known up until now how to obtain the simple and geometrically obvious regularity of the distribution of integral points on the sphere other than by ergodic methods. Systems of diophantine equations are studied with our method, and flows of integral points introduced for this purpose turn out to be closely connected with the behavior of ideal classes of the corresponding algebraic fields, and this behavior shows certain ergodic regularity in sequences of algebraic fields. However, in this book we examine in this respect only quadratic fields in sufficient detail, studying fields of higher degrees only in chapter VII.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 208 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Completely continuous operators on a Hilbert space or even on a Banach space have received considerable attention in the last fifty years. Their study was usually confined to special completely continuous operators or to the discovery of properties common to all of them (for instance, that every such operator admits a proper invariant subspace). On the other hand, interest in spaces of completely continuous operators is comparatively new. Some results of this type may be found implicit in the early work of E. SCHMIDT. Other results are 'generally known' and cannot be found explicitly in print. One of the interesting and relatively new results states that modulo the language of BANACH (that is, up to equivalence) the space of all operators on a Hilbert space f> is the second conjugate of the space of all completely continuous operators on f>. The study of spaces of completely continuous operators on a perfectly general Banach space involves many difficulties. Some stem, for instance, from the unsolved problem whether a completely continuous operator on a perfectly general Banach space is always approximable in bound by operators of finite rank. The answer is affirmative in all the special Banach spaces considered. An affirmative answer to the above problem is the ultimate desideratum - it ~ould simplify the theory considerably. A negative answer, however, would be equally interesting (although for us not so useful), since it would settle negatively the open 'basis problem'.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 96 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -The m-adic topologies and, in particular the notions of m-complete ring and m-completion A of a commutative ring A, occur frequently in commutative algebra and are also a useful tool in algebraic geometry. The aim of this work is to collect together some criteria concerning the ascent (from A to A) and the descent (from A to A) of several properties of commutative rings such as, for example: integrity, regularity, factoriality, normality, etc. More precisely, we want to show that many of the above criteria, although not trivial at all, are elementary consequences of some fundamental notions of commutative algebra and local algebra. Sometimes we are able to get only partial results, which probably can be improved by further deeper investigations. No new result has been included in this work. Its only origi nality is the choice of material and the mode of presentation. The comprehension of the most important statements included in this book needs only a very elementary background in algebra, ideal theory and general topology. In order to emphasize the elementary character of our treatment, we have recalled several well known definitions and, sometimes, even the proofs of the first properties which follow directly from them. On the other hand, we did not insert in this work some important results, such as the Cohen structure theorem on complete noetherian local rings, as we did not want to get away too much from the spirit of the book.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 88 pp. Englisch.

It was conceived as a comprehensive solution to several deficiencies encountered while trying to teach the essentials of Computer Vision in different contexts: to technicians from industry looking for technological solutions to some of their problems, to students in search of a good subject for a PhD thesis, and to researchers in other fields who believe that Computer Vision techniques may help them to analyse their results. The book was carefully planned with all these people in mind. Thus, it covers the fundamentals of both 2D and 3D Computer Vision and their most widespread industrial applications, such as automated inspection, robot guidance and workpiece acquisition. The level of explanation is that of an expanded introductory text, in the sense that, besides the basic material, some special advanced topics are included in each chapter, together with an extensive bibliography for experts to follow up. Well-known researchers on each of the topics were appointed to write a chapter following several guidelines to ensure a consistent presentation throughout. I would like to thank the authors for their patience, because some of them had to go through several revisions of their chapters in order to avoid repetition and to improve the homogeneity and coherence of the book. I hope they will find that the final result has been worth their efforts. 468 pp. Englisch.
