As the Internet becomes increasingly pervasive across societies,we find more often that governments adopt Information CommunicationTechnologies (ICTs) as part of their toolbox for facilitating efficient andcitizen-oriented service delivery at all levels of government. Local governmentsacross the major industrialized democracies have not been an exception to thistrend and have set sail into the age of digital government. Closest to theircitizens, towns and cities have adopted ICTs to facilitate electronicgovernment (e-government). While research on local e-government functionalityin terms of information dissemination, service delivery, and citizen engagementcontinues at an impressive empirical and methodological pace, gaps in ourknowledge remain. Cross-national comparative research on local e-governmentthat covers a wide range of municipalities in combination with in-depth casestudy analyses is lacking. Informed by a comparative case study approach, thisbook seeks to narrow that gap and offer practical policy solutions tofacilitate local e-government. We do so by pursuing both a macro and microperspective of e-government functionality in the federal republics of Germanyand the United States and unitary France and Japan. The macro perspectivefocuses on the state and scope of e-government functionalityacross a large number of randomly selected municipalities of all sizes in theseadvanced industrialized countries. Based on a small sample of case studies, themicro perspective analyzes the successful implementation of e-government inSeattle (United States), Nuremberg (Germany), Bordeaux (France), and Shizuoka City(Japan). 136 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book provides readers with the fundamental, analytical, and quantitative knowledge of machining process planning and optimization based on advanced and practical understanding of machinery, mechanics, accuracy, dynamics, monitoring techniques, and control strategies that they need to understanding machining and machine tools. It is written for first-year graduate students in mechanical engineering, and is also appropriate for use as a reference book by practicing engineers. It covers topics such as single and multiple point cutting processes; grinding processes; machine tool components, accuracy, and metrology; shear stress in cutting, cutting temperature and thermal analysis, and machine tool chatter. The second section of the book is devoted to 'Non-Traditional Machining,' where readers can find chapters on electrical discharge machining, electrochemical machining, laser and electron beam machining, and biomedical machining. Examples of realistic problems that engineers are likely to face in the field are included, along with solutions and explanations that foster a didactic learning experience. 248 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -This book sheds new light on the physiology, molecular biology and pathophysiology of epithelial ion channels and transporters. It combines the basic cellular models and functions by means of a compelling clinical perspective, addressing aspects from the laboratory bench to the bedside. The individual chapters, written by leading scientists and clinicians, explore specific ion channels and transporters located in the epithelial tissues of the kidney, intestine, pancreas and respiratory tract, all of which play a crucial part in maintaining homeostasis. Further topics include the fundamentals of epithelial transport; mathematical modeling of ion transport; cell volume regulation; membrane protein folding and trafficking; transepithelial transport functions; and lastly, a discussion of transport proteins as potential pharmacological targets with a focus on the pharmacology of potassium channels.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 1036 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -This expert reference provides a broad, comprehensive review of the major domains of sexual offending. Beginning with an integrated etiological model of sexual offending, chapters follow addressing the primary predisposing conditions related to sexual offending (e.g. pedophilic, hebephilic, paraphilic rape and non-contact paraphilic disorders, hyper sexuality and personality factors). In addition, special subgroups of sexual offenders (females, youth and the intellectually disable) are considered. Both broad and specific perspectives on the assessment of sexual offenders are provided. Overviews are offered of clinical and forensic evaluations of such offenders and the utility of structured psychological assessment. A novel conceptual model of risk assessment is proposed. More specifically, each of the primary approaches or instruments related to risk assessment of sexual offending are addressed: the Static risk assessment measures, the Sex Offender Risk Appraisal Guide, structured professional judgment, and the varied measures of dynamic or criminogenic needs assessment. Finally, multiple aspects of management of sexual offenders are discussed including models of psychosocial treatment, the question of the effectiveness of such treatment, biological interventions, civil commitment, circles of support, and the containment approach to community management. Chapters are authored by both prominent experts and experienced professionals for a breadth of perspective.Among the topics covered: Pedophilic, Hebephilic, Rape Paraphilic Disorders and the variety of Non Contact sexual offending conditionsPersonality, related conditions, & their association with sexual offending: motivators and disinhibition in context.Disorders of hyper sexuality.Assessments of sexual offenders, including the role of psychological testing, clinical & interview approaches, as well as forensic evaluationsConceptual models of risk assessment & discussion of specific static, dynamic & structured clinical risk assessment approachesModels of & reviews of treatment outcome with sexual offenders, including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and castration, the containment approach, civil commitment & circles of supportOverview of public policy issues & an evidence-based perspective on sex offender registration and residential restrictions. This breadth of material in Sexual Offenders will help practitioners gain multiple levels of clinical insight as well as giving them up-to-date practical tools and techniques for working with this problematic class of individuals.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 912 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -When developmental psychologists set forth the theory that the roots of adult psychopathology could be traced to childhood experience and behavior, the idea quickly took hold. Subsequently, as significant research in this area advanced during the past decade, more sophisticated theory, more accurate research methodologies, and improved replication of empirical findings have been the result. The Third Edition of the Handbook of Developmental Psychopathology incorporates these research advances throughout its comprehensive, up-to-date examination of this diverse and maturing field. Integrative state-of-the-art models document the complex interplay of risk and protective factors and other variables contributing to normal and pathological development. New and updated chapters describe current refinements in assessment methods and offer the latest research findings from neuroscience. In addition, the Third Edition provides readers with a detailed review across the spectrum of salient topics, from the effects of early deprivation to the impact of puberty. As the field continues to shift from traditional symptom-based concepts of pathology to a contemporary, dynamic paradigm, the Third Edition addresses such key topics as:Early Childhood disorders, including failure to thrive and attachment disorders.Aggression, ADHD, and other disruptive conditions.Developmental models of depression, anxiety, self-injury/suicide, and OCD.The autism spectrum and other chronic developmental disorders.Child maltreatment and trauma disorders. The Third Edition of the Handbook of Developmental Psychopathology is a discipline-defining, forward-looking resource for researchers, clinicians, scientist-practitioners, and graduate students in such fields as developmental psychology, psychiatry, social work, child and school psychology, educational psychology, and pediatrics. 868 pp. Englisch.
