Despite my preoc cupation with creating a cohesive book, I often thought of these 11 chapters as essays because in this prose form it is traditional for the author to be palpably present in the text. I tried not to hide behind the passive constructions oftypical psychiatric books. I wanted to create a book that did not restrict itself to scientific findings, clinical experi ences, or ideological traditions. I wanted to discuss relevant issues that were generally avoided by professionals. In approaching the topics of love, extramarital affairs, and menopause, for instance, I hoped to em phasize the developmental potentials inherent in both mid-life's smooth sailing and its underappreciated adversities. Sexuality in Mid-Life is my third solo-authored book. During the writing ofthe first two, I thought I was painting a picture of the life cy cle of sexuality. When a young woman said something complimentary to me about Sex Is Not Simple and quickly added that I had left out any consideration of the sexuality of pregnancy, I was stunned by my over sight. 216 pp. Englisch.

When a user moves across the boundaries of these RAs, the network updates his location information in the pertinent databases. When a caller places a call using the callee's identification, the network queries the relevant database(s) to obtain the current location and other service information of the callee. The performance of mobility management can be further enhanced by using replicas of user profiles which may be kept at various locations. Replication techniques make profile information more readily available, thus reducing lookup cost and latency, but to keep these replicas c- sistent and fresh, they must be updated whenever the user profile is updated. The principle of replication is to replicate if the benefit of replication is greater than its overhead. These syndromes essentially encompass two forms, i. e. the resistance to thyroid hormones and that to TSH action. The contribution of molecular biology has been fundamental in understanding the etiology of these different thyroid disorders and led to the discovery of new pathogenetic mechanisms, e. g. the dominant negative effects of a mutant protein on the normal one. In this book, I have assembled an internationally renewed group of experts devoted to the studies of both basic and clinical thyroidology. Taking the syndromes of resistance as a template, the novelties on the mechanisms of action of the various hormones, the etiopathogenesis of the syndromes, the instruments for the diagnosis, as well as the pitfalls in managing these diseases, are deeply revisited. The insights from different animal models are discussed, with particular focus on tissue specific action of thyroid hormones, as well as on the still enigmatic mechanism of negative feedback control of thyroid hormones on TSH secretion and the different etiologic mechanisms causing thyroid hormone resistance in patients without mutations in the thyroid hormone receptor ~. The role of the structure of thyroid hormone and TSH receptors in designing agonist or antagonist molecules is extensively debated. A user profile contains not only a user¿s current location information, but also service informati…on, such as billing and authentication. The cov- age area of an access network is divided into registration areas (RAs), and each RA is associated with a location database. The two basic op- ations in mobility management are location update and location lookup. When a user moves across the boundaries of these RAs, the network updates his location information in the pertinent databases. When a caller places a call using the callee¿s identification, the network queries the relevant database(s) to obtain the current location and other service information of the callee. The performance of mobility management can be further enhanced by using replicas of user profiles which may be kept at various locations. Replication techniques make profile information more readily available, thus reducing lookup cost and latency, but to keep these replicas c- sistent and fresh, they must be updated whenever the user profile is updated. The principle of replication is to replicate if the benefit of replication is greater than its overhead. I wanted to create a book that did not restrict itself to scientific findings, clinical experi ences, or ideological traditions. I wanted to discuss relevant issues that were generally avoided by professionals. In approaching the topics of love, extramarital affairs, and menopause, for instance, I hoped to em phasize the developmental potentials inherent in both mid-life's smooth sailing and its underappreciated adversities. Sexuality in Mid-Life is my third solo-authored book. During the writing ofthe first two, I thought I was painting a picture of the life cy cle of sexuality. Later on, a similar reasoning has been applied to algebroid functions, subharmonic functions and meromorphic functions on Riemann surfaces as well as to - alytic functions of several complex variables, holomorphic and meromorphic mappings and to the theory of minimal surfaces. Moreover, several appli- tions of the theory have been exploited, including complex differential and functional equations, complex dynamics and Diophantine equations. The main emphasis of this collection is to direct attention to a number of recently developed novel ideas and generalizations that relate to the - velopment of value distribution theory and its applications. In particular, we mean a recent theory that replaces the conventional consideration of counting within a disc by an analysis of their geometric locations. Another such example is presented by the generalizations of the second main theorem to higher dimensional cases by using the jet theory. Moreover, s- ilar ideas apparently may be applied to several related areas as well, such as to partial differential equations and to differential geometry. Indeed, most of these applications go back to the problem of analyzing zeros of certain complex or real functions, meaning in fact to investigate level sets or level surfaces. 344 pp. Englisch.
